For those who had played Cookie Run Kingdom and had gotten to a certain point in the new update...
Yeah, everyone is understandably pissed at the newest revelation revealed just last night (I believe). Rightfully so, as... -right here are some spoilers-
The Lights within the Soul Jams ASKED Elder Faerie Cookie to split them into two, spread the light halves to Crispia, and kept it a FUCKING secret. Yet another thing the poor Cookie had to hide away, even from his new friend, White Lily Cookie. But that isn't the worse of it. No. What's worse is that they are seemingly sentient and did fuck all when their first chosen ones fell into their corruption. For some people, their decision to be split to find new chosen ones, leaving the Beast Cookies with the darker halves while the Ancient Heroes gain the lighter halves, is just them having realized their mistake and decided to help the Ancients (to an extent, more on that later) by being proper guides. All while not giving a hoot about their mental well being.
Now. I can completely understand why people are mad about it. How it's a just the Lights subjecting a very old Cookie to more abuse due to his 'duty', while doing a second try with their second child. But is it?
As I had read in the comments on Youtube, someone pointed out that the Soul Jams, aka the Lights, while autonomous, are NOT Cookies nor humans - just a higher power that has one job: to guide Cookiekind with their powers. When their first chosen ones had failed that job, and became corrupted, after all five were sealed, they decided to split themselves and have either half stick with the respective Cookie later down the line. And, this is important folks; because they are not like other living beings on Earthbread, they didn't exactly help their new chosen ones at all, especially Golden Cheese and Dark Cacao when they had isolated themselves, or, in the case of White Lily, **enabled** her curiosity and search for answers, leading up to the creation of Dark Enchantress Cookie.
But I'm not here to talk about all of that. Because, as I am sure a lot of us are adults or at least of an age to realize that things aren't so simple. I am not defending the Lights for their decision, as I recognize that they are not entirely guilt free. It's easy to blame a LOT of factors that created the sordid history of Cookie Run Kingdom thus far. It's easy to blame the Witches for the misery a lot of Cookies had gone through, even though we have zero ideas about what happened to those who were with the Witch of Light (IF they did perish and were reborn as Cookies and are sealed within the castle); it's easy to blame the Virtues for their actions when they had become Beast Cookies (mainly Shadow Milk), yet we saw the 'how' and 'why' they became corrupted in the first place - that is to say, what happened to them was not an excuse for their actions, including after they were out of the Seal Tree; it's easy to blame the Soul Jams for not being the guides for the Virtues when they had started to fall, as well as for the suffering of the Ancient Heroes, though I will talk more about that in a bit. It's also easy to put the blame on the early Cookies during their time, as the Early Cookies played a factor for several of the Virtues falling (for Burning Spice, however, it was the numbness of watching civilizations rise and fall constantly that made him go bonkers, and for Eternal Sugar, it was due to her depression as she watched the Cookies get hurt over the things that happened to them); but early humans were as bad too, with their ignorance and cruelty that still exists today.
Onto the MAIN topic now... I have a theory, mostly about the Soul Jams. I had thought about it and noticed something.
While Soul Jams are indeed forces of nature that cares not for the lives of all Cookies...I think the Soul James are also influenced by the personalities and traits of their chosen one. In that cutscene, the Lights were logical, almost mechanical in their reasoning for them to be split into two. While the light halves of the Soul Jams the Heroes have does talk with them on a couple of occasions... the Light of Passion acts like Hollyberry to get her to regain her passion, not just once but twice. Yet not truly Hollyberry. A TRAIT of her that wishes to protect and help others with her passion.
Now. Before you @ me, this is from a logical standpoint. The Soul Jams act that way in that cutscene is because, back then, the Virtues were created for a single purpose. When the Witches, um, 'mysteriously vanished', the Virtues took it upon themselves to 'mechanically' continue their roles, with little idea of what they were actually doing. They just do what they think is associated with the Virtues they are given. 'Giving' knowledge, granting wishes for their volition, oversee change, bring happiness and promoting solidarity. We all saw how that turned out.
So, when the Soul Jams had split themselves in half, and Elder Fairy hid them in select places in Crispia to be found by the Ancient Heroes, you'd expect it to go like how it was back then, right? Well...that's if we go by the assumption that the Ancient Heroes were created as adults to fulfill their role. They weren't. They grew up, they had childhoods, they were tempered by their upbringings to develop the traits associated with the light halves of the Virtues. And those light halves? Influenced by their new wielders to have traces of their personality and mindsets. Yet not entirely, as they still have some flaws (looking at the Light of Freedom).
Note that I had said 'personality' and 'mindsets'. The latter can be applied to the first Chosen Ones before they became Beast Cookies - their mindset was to fulfill their roles. They failed, and this disconnected them from their first Chosen Ones. As they were stuck in that previous mindset. Perhaps THAT is what was left behind with the Beasts, not just the dark halves of the Virtues. The 'Light of Deceit' that talked with Shadow Milk while he was the Fount/Milk of Knowledge may just be something he had 'created' himself due to his failing mental health (not that I'd blame him but still).
I know I had said 'mechanical' to describe the Beast Cookies doing their roles, but...if you were born, practically immortal and non-aging, and just given a task you didn't fully understand, you just...do it. No questions asked. Especially after the person who created you fucked off somewhere and never returned. They are as alive themselves, but four out of five don't feel as if they are. By 'alive' I mean being like a normal Cookie.
Now, with that out of the way, this is still rather early. A lot of people have their own thoughts and feelings about them. I am not invalidating them, as a lot of people have the right to be mad. Even I had mixed feelings about this new information. I don't know what the future updates have in store but...I will say this:
If and when the Ancients find out THAT truth as well, they deserve to have a crash out, as most of their problems were caused by them in the first place. ESPECIALLY Pure Vanilla, who fucking lost his 'best friend' not once but fucking TWICE, because the Light of Freedom didn't do jack to stop her. The Hero of Truth deserves to lash out at the Soul Jams. The others? I'd say just as upset and angry too, as they could have prevented the Virtues from falling into corruption. Yes, Dark Cacao and Golden Cheese will have mixed feelings about it due to their own brutal history with their respective counterparts, yet if you look at it like this, as well as them not hearing their Soul Jams during their isolation, they'd be just as pissed.
It's likely Shadow Milk will be as affected, which might make his mental state worse. I don't know, but we'll see.
I just want to share my theory based on what we know thus far. My theory might end up getting debunked later, but I just want to get this out there.
Have a good day everyone.
