If you're comfortable accusing anyone of faking disability, you're not a real ally to disabled people
One time when I was a kid a group of girls and I had to treat another student for hypothermia by ourselves because she had so many invisible health issues that the adults we asked for help didn't believe us. The student in question was actively hallucinating. When I finally ran for help the people I grabbed were slow as shit to respond, casually joking about how "dramatic" the person in question was.
The kid was picked up by an ambulance 30 minutes later.
Now as an adult working in security I get SO MANY folks- upper-middle aged mostly- coming to me to 'rat out' people they think are faking it.
I was once sent into a bathroom because a client demanded that the "fucker won't get out, so good drag them out"- I was NEVER going to do that, so I did a wellness check instead. You know who it was? A person recently released from the hospital after a car accident. They had a hole in their skull and major hearing loss. They couldn't answer the owner because they couldn't HEAR the owner.
Another time about a homeless man who got around town by kicking the ground from his wheelchair. "You know he doesn't actually need that thing, his legs work fine, it's just for pity points"- Oh, so he's not paralyzed, his wheelchair is performative? Funny story Dale, I actually know that guy, he was backed over by a truck and has chronic pain from his shattered pelvis. But sure, let's make him stand up and walk everywhere so nobody feels too bad for him and tries to help him or something.
"She doesn't need that scooter, I've seen her get out of it."
"Look how fat he is, because he just rides around and refuses to get up."
"She doesn't really need that cane- she comes here without it all the time"
Sincerely, truly, from the bottom of my heart- as someone who isn't physically disabled but hears this shit all the time- fuck off
when the rpgmaker game is alright: honestly the soundtrack was pretty good!
when the rpgmaker game is fucking bad and also it's the 2010s:
by far the strangest part of the British government deciding to enact a sword hunt is that the policy they've put together is very clear about only banning "ninja swords" and "zombie-style knives." you're allowed to have a sword for fencing, or a machete for farm and garden work, or a zweihander for historical re-enactment purposes, but if you have a wakizashi your ass is fucking GRASS
like it is genuinely impossible for me to imagine a use case for this law that isn't just "being racist in a way that feels so outmoded it's almost quaint." you know people can kill each other with regular knives, right?
second-strangest part is that their definition of "ninja sword" includes certain kitchen knives but excludes odachi
god help you if your tuna knife is 4 inches too short
machetes are OK but if you doodle a little skull on it it WILL be imbued with the unholy spirit of KNIFE CRIME and you WILL be thrown in HMP Cocksarseworth FOREVER

Times That Copyright Expansion Has Historically Fucked Over Artists On An Institutional Level:
Sampling rights becoming prohibitively expensive to use by small artists
Musicians being forced to sign over sampling rights to their record company, making any benefits they would hypothetically gain moot.
The Digital Milennium Copyright Act leading to the vidmaker-stomping nightmare that is ContentID
The DMCA leading to making it harder than ever to preserve media due to the way it prohibits tinkering with any locks the megacorps put on it, meaning it's way easier for artists' hard work to end up vaulted and lost.
The way basic chord progressions and musical styles have become copyrightable thanks to various lawsuits by the Marvin Gaye estate
The fact that the artists of the past used to be able to remix; adapt and iterate on art made within 56 years of them, likely created in their lifetimes, and now artists can only do those things with art produced nearly a century ago by people long dead.
New and independent artists being crowded out of the market by megacorp-owned IPs that would be public domain (and thusly convey less of an overwhelming advantage-via-marquee-value to megacorps) if the US had its pre-1976 copyright laws.
Times That Copyright Expansion Has Actually Materially Helped Artists On An Institutional Level:
????????
Times that Copyright Expansion Resulted In Something Kinda Funny:
When Metallica did a twitch concert and got a copyright strike on their own music as a direct result of their lobbying for copyright expansion
We all know that a large number of the convicts sent to Australia back in the day were convicted of "stealing a crust of bread to feed my little sister" type crimes but today I learned that a lot of them were sent for stealing their workhouse uniforms. By which I mean they were from Victorian workhouses, which were desperate, exploitative and abusive places on purpose (to encourage people to stop being poor), they decided to take that encouragement and try to make it on their own, left (which they were allowed to do)... and were arrested, imprisoned and eventually sent as convict labour to Australia because they were wearing the uniform they were given when they entered the workhouse (their own stuff was usually all confiscated when they arrived and workhouses didn't pay wages at this time so there was no way for them to get any other clothes). Imagine quitting your job at a fast food restaurant and then you get sent to a distant colony to die tilling fields for the military because you wore your stupid little uniform hat home.
Humanity fucking loves having a prison industrial complex so much. We can just never stop doing it.
It's so obvious that it was 100% case of creating laws specifically to increase the number of criminals so the folks in power could do whatever they wanted with them...
***
And there were several reasons for it
Remove undesirable people from a area (poor, Irish, non-white, children) - sometimes just to decrease population in general, sometimes with the view to take their land/property (export all the Irish folks in Ireland -> Free Real Estate!)
Free/cheap labor in a place where labor is needed and it's hard to get people to go by choice. Make that sweet sweet money without having to do invest in something so petty as wages
Increase population to hold onto colony. They may be undesirable in England but at least they aren't Those People (Indigenous Australians). You can even force them to fight and do genocide for you. And if you can convince them that if they just do everything right, they might one day be counted as a real person, they might even do it willingly (see also: indentured people in North America - "earn your freedom by capturing enslaved people, we promise this is the natural order of things)
And since they're expendable anyway, you don't have to worry too much about food, clothing, housing, medical care. If they become unable to work or die, they're easily replaced. If you keep changing the laws you can get more criminals!
They go after the most vulnerable and marginalized. Trans people, kids on SNAP, single moms, old people. They’ll work their way to the rest of us bit by bit if we don’t stop them
The Spear in the Others heart is the Spear in your own, you are he. There is no other wisdom and no other hope but that we grow wise - Diane Duane
Hi, Foone here, I'm a retrocomputer educator! I'm here to explain the real reason this laptop is like this.
So this is the Panasonic PRONOTE PD CF-62, it's a Pentium 133mhz running Windows 95, released in August 1996. Panasonic did this sort of trick more than once, they did a similar thing with an under-keyboard CD-ROM drive in the PD CF-41, from 1995.
This one is so fancy because that's not just a self-loading under-keyboard laptop CD-ROM drive, it's a HYBRID PD/CD-ROM self-loading under-keyboard laptop drive! It has to be this complex because it takes PD discs (which are the size of caddies) and caddyless CD-ROMs!
So what's PD discs?
They're an optical format by Panasonic, the Phase-change Dual (or Phase-change Disc). They're from 1996, store as much as CD, but are rewritable... much like the later CD-RWs which used basically the same technology, just in a slightly different format. Unlike CD-RWs (which you had to burn (usually), they acted like a hard drive, fully rewritable at any point. That's why the disc is hard-sectored, which you can see through the shutter gap. Those vertical lines indicate where sectors start and end.
So yeah, this laptop has a complex drive that can take both types of discs, and the whole thing folds under the keyboard. Fucking wild.
But the root reason, of course, is that they did this because it's a cool design, and they wanted to do that. Why did they think this was cool, why did they want to do this?
Pervert reasons.
Next question!

As a trans woman I can confirm that they indeed found an ancient forest inside a 630ft deep sinkhole in China
cis people can reblog this but keep it on subject, please
Happy pride month everyone always remember that the sinkhole has an ecosystem large enough to house not only insects but likely several species of small birds or mammals
"lupita nyong'o can't be helen of troy because helen was greek and there weren't black people in ancient greece"
DO YOU THINK THESE MOTHERFUCKERS DIDNT HAVE BOATS. THIS ENTIRE MOVIE IS ABOUT ONE OF THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS AND HIS BOAT
do you think these people can read
Best comment I just saw "Helen of Troy was perfectly cast, because all these men are fighting about her."
