Fowldom, I have a dumb worldbuilding question.
I recall Holly being disgusted that humans excrete in their own dwellings in one of the early books. Implying, of course, that the folk go outside a building every time they want to pee/worse. Then how do huge indoor office spaces like the LEP headquarters/any other big buildings exist? Are they just built with an insane number of exits? Or no truly internal rooms? And is being outside the dwelling enough (I hope not) or do fairies also have to nyoom to some specific bathroom-type location to do their business? Or do they just need to go less often due to some biological quirk?
I was thinking about this a few weeks ago, and to me, it's just a line Colfer throws in there without doing much worldbuilding with it. Because, if we're honest, there is no "outside", since the fairies live underground. Sure, they have buildings, but as soon as they exit them, they're in Haven - which is just a bigger building, in a way.
This might be a bit of a philosophical approach to your question, but for such an advanced civilization that has found a lot of pragmatic solutions for their situation, this seems like an odd thing to be disgusted about.
that actually... makes a lot of sense. maybe holly's disgust is more like, "you have the option to poop outside, where the forces of nature can deal with it directly, and you still do it inside your own building and then build a ton of plumbing to move it around?"
