one of the most important lessons i ever got was from a critical thinking class that explained people form their opinions before they actually have a reason for them, and confabulate reasons afterwards. this is not a rare quirk of humanity, it is *how the brain functions.*

treating your sense of disgust as a partial meterstick for your own biases really does help you disentangle a lot of them. if you think something is gross or bad, you might want to seriously examine why *before* you deliver an empassioned screed. you might find that the reason you felt off was because you do not on a rational level support your emotional reaction.
