Okay so “theory” time (put in quotes because I know I’m totally right)!! We already know what the other diamonds look like, as shown in Sworn to the Sword. We just know for sure which is Yellow Diamond, so we can guess which of the other two might be Blue Diamond and White Diamond, but other than that I think we know their official designs!

I got these asks, and a whole mess of replies suggesting Stockholm Syndrome to my latest ask reply, and that’s the initial answer I jumped to initially as well- but from double checking my understanding of what exactly Stockholm syndrome pertains to- it seems like I haven’t had a full grasp of what Stockholm syndrome actually means. At least if I’m reading definitions correctly tonight.

Stockholm syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which hostages express empathy and sympathy and have positive feelings toward their captors, sometimes to the point of defending and identifying with the captors. These feelings are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims, who essentially mistake a lack of abuse from their captors for an act of kindness.

So, saying Lapis has Stockholm syndrome I think is incorrect in that she isn’t feeling love or affection for the physical barriers she imposes around her, but rather is continuing to perpetuate a cycle of abusive behavior against herself by continuing to punish and imprison herself in incredibly negative situations.

My suggestion of traumatic bonding felt a bit more correct, as it is defined as- the result of ongoing cycles of abuse in which the intermittent reinforcement of reward and punishment creates powerful emotional bonds that are resistant to change. But even that isn’t entirely correct if you ask me.

From talking to my psych friend and the both of us looking over it together, we agreed that Lapis seems to be likely suffering from a mixture of low self-esteem, and uncertainty on what lies ahead in the future which when acting in combination are likely to place great stress and anxiety on a person. My friend suggested that it’s entirely possibly that Lapis’s choices to continue to hold herself down might be stemming from that being the only thing she feels she can control at this time, and that control could quiet her anxiety about her stressors.

NOPE.

Literally I’ve been raving about these kind of dark theories for ages, it’s not just that particular ask that’s got my goat. Basically how I see things boiling down for fans who enjoy theorizing in that way is that they probably don’t want to hand over full control to the world that’s laid out in front of them- and I get that to a degree, but STILL.

To just broadly apply these wild St. Elsewhere snow globe style theories is a complete gimmick, and not at all radical in thought. These theories choose not to trust the world building or the characters who fill that world. Nor do they trust the writer(s) of whatever fictional world that’s in question to have a grander direction for the space they’ve created for their characters. 

I could go on and on about this, like essay length on and on- but for that I think I’d need more time to gather some thoughts/resources.

Dear followers, Please help me. I was supposed to be having top surgery this month, but my fundraising attempts are being completely ignored. I had to renew my t-shirt campaign 3 times, yet I still never sold enough shirts for the company to even print them. And I’ve had this GoFundMe for over a year. All I’ve raised is $65. •I’m currently fighting my insurance to try and force them to cover my procedure. I’m not getting anywhere with them. I work and I’m building savings. But I can barely scrape from my paychecks. I’m just asking for anyone to give what they can. $1 even. •I need to have top surgery by July 1st so that I can heal before the next semester begins. I am transferring colleges to finish my BA. I’m still waiting for decisions to come back, but financially I’ll have to stay on campus. Which means I won’t be safe in my own dorm. I’ll be at risk for hazing, bullying, physical violence that can lead to injury or even death if I’m outed. Every day we read about trans* youth who have been beaten or killed because their resources for emotional, medical and financial support were restricted; either by family, the government, society or our own community. I don’t want that to be my reality or that of any other LGBTQAI person. •It seems like on this website popular/famous/attractive people receive a helping hand. And all anyone else gets is a [Support Particular Group of People] post. How do we expect the outside world to help us and give to us when we won’t do that for our own community? •When you’re scrolling by and you see a fundraiser, just hit reblog, at the very least. It takes you 8 seconds. And even if you can’t donate, someone on your end might see that post and be able to donate. •It strikes me as pathetically sad that my original content and that of other non-famous people just gets passed by, even though it’s deep or funny or aesthetic or any number of things. But when I reblog something of the same or lesser caliber that already has thousands of notes, it gets instant reblogs from my followers. Why is this? •I don’t want to go on forever, and I’m not trying to whine or complain or start anything. I’m actually curious. Also, I don’t know how else to make a statement and get some attention here. •If you read this and you want to do something about it, please donate to my page and the pages of others.
