Just watched Jupiter Ascending last night and found it honestly brilliant. It’s an anti-capitalist screed masquerading as shameless female wish fulfillment and ridiculous space opera. I can see how one might get caught up in the ludicrousness of royalty-detecting bees and “I love dogs” and the amazing costuming but there’s so much going on under the surface. Immigrant women getting exploited while their true potential goes to waste. People viewed as commodities. The police protect the financial interests of the wealthy while ignoring the widespread death caused by industrial exploitation. I was endlessly charmed by all the camp and lovely CGI, but damn, the politics. Jupiter Ascending really is a thinking woman’s Fifth Element.

I think the most compelling part of this comic is the two women in the background who are having a conversation without their bonnets even touching but all the men feel they have the right to invade the women’s spaces as much as possible
