Iroh and Zuko's conversation about things said and Iroh's attempt to mold Zuko into LuTen.
The appearances by the various Avatars.
The otherworldly feel of the library.
The continuation of Sokka's grief arc. That said, his monologue about being the plan guy was a bit weird given that we haven't really seen him plan anything.
Jet and Katara's library talk.
Things I Didn't Like:
Lighting issues. So. Many. Lighting. Issues. Half of Azula's scenes were too dark for facial expressions and don't get me started on the sinking of the library/kidnapping of Appa scene. Boooooooo.
Things I Don't Know How I Feel About:
Azula's plan and it's complete lack of subtlety. Who is this girl?

Netflix Avatar 2.04 The Water Falls The Stone Emerges
This episode is a mash up of the cartoons Ba Sing Se arc, plus Zuko's bandit era and the Painted Lady. Lots of stuff going on, starting with a zippy montage.
Things I Liked:
Katara and Zuko on their parallel vigilante arcs.
Long Feng as Palpatine as opposed to the obvious obstructionist he was in the cartoons. It's a neat spin on his character. I did, however, question Aang's statement about being the only one who got the pressure Aang is under. If he's supposed to be the new Gyosto, wouldn't the relationship be about a space where he can be taken care of in a way which relieves the pressure? Whatever.
Toph and Sokka's haiku battle was great. I really dig the idea of the blackmail arc too.
The complicated boundaries of loyalty and ethnicity it and the Fire Nation refugees raise. Sai and the Beifongs worked with the F.N. to save themselves, while Jeong Jeong deserted to live in squalor and hatred.
Iroh's guilt for more than just his son and how his suicidal ideation freaks the fuck out of the mugger until they become besties. In the cartoon, Iroh is years past his guilt and almost seems to have disassociated himself from his past actions, but here it hits him. He's not the guy having fun in his new life and that's an interesting twist.
Things I Didn't Like:
How dark the fight between Azula's gang and the Kyoshi Warriors was. Why is every show these days so allergic to lightning things? What's the point of fights you can't even see?

You are never late to a fandom. Your fic is never "invalid" for being "late". Your fic doesn't need a high word limit. Your fic does not need a high standard. Your fic does not need to be highly popular. Your fic isn't less valid than a popular author's fic. Your fic isn't inheritly bad. Your fic is amazing. Your fic is valid. The only thing that matters is that you're having fun. Fandom is not consumption and consumerism. Fandom is fun, free and for the people. Fandom is not a popularity contest. We're all nerds at the end of the day.
This episode was a fun mash-up of the OG episode of the same name, plus Zuko's plot from Serpents Pass, and elements of Bitter Work, The Library, Tales of Ba Sing Se, and Painted Lady. It was my favorite episode of the series thus far.
Things I Liked:
The confrontation with the Boulder was a riot!
Toph's everything. Love that girl!
The horror of those tiny cells as a metaphor for the entire city.
The majority of the party. The moment with the woman touching Katara's dress. Everyone trying to marry Toph. Katara splashing drinks into those girls' faces.
Sokka's on going trauma as a character arc.
Katara going all Painted Lady at the same time Zuko is starting his Blue Spirit arc.
Things I Didn't Like:
The shoehorning of classic lines and scenes into places where they didn't quite fit. This also popped up last episode and is a pretty consistent problem.
Things I Don't Know How I Feel About:
Jet. Cartoon Jet wanted to help people in his angry misguided way. This Jet is pissed Longshot helped Iroh, didn't want to share the food, and abandoned his friends at the first sign of trouble. I'm interested in seeing how they take his arc.
This episode is a mash-up of Zuko Alone, Blind Bandit, and The Chase, and unlike the mash-up in the first episode, this one works pretty well.
Things I Liked:
Toph. Fucking Toph! She was great. The actress was great. Her interactions with Aang were great.
Poppy and her being the shrewd businesswoman head of household and not the husband was a neat touch.
The guy who played the Boulder was just the right amount of camp.
Sokka's anxiety about his ability to protect Suki, and his inability to have a conversation about his trauma.
Zuko and Fei.
The Blue Spirit story and different reason for Ursa being proud of Zuko.
Ozai's plot to usurp Iroh and LuTen. Like, it clearly wasn't a move of convenient timing like in the cartoon, but something he had in the works.
Things I Didn't Like:
The whole Ursa kidnapping thing. What was her goal there? Had she killed Azulon like in canon or was she just trying to get away from her usurping husband? I was very confused.
The costumes on TyLee and Mai. They looked weirdly cheap in this episode, possibly because they were in decent lighting this time.
Things I Found Confusing:
I probably should have put the Ursa plot here, but whatever.
How does Zuko know Earth Kingdom army regulation? It would make sense for him to know Fire Nation regs, but Earth? What?

One of the interesting things about the Heated Rivalry fandom is the extent to which many writers don't know or realize that the recent past where the series is set is actually different from today. It's the stories with 2020s internet slang and prediction markets in the 2010s. It's the boys getting drunk married in Vegas in 2011 when gay marriage wasn't legal in Nevada until 2015. It's throwaway background players who immigrated from Russia to play for American teams in 1981. So many of these stories are otherwise really good, but it's just kind of a fascinating trend within the fandom.
The second season opens with a mash up of "Return to Omashu" and "Serpents Pass" with references to "The Library" and "The Painted Lady" for flavor. Aang and the gaang hook up with Suki to usher some Omashu refugees to safety after Aang tries to rescue Bumi. Meanwhile, Azula's brilliant plan to conquer BA Sing Se gets dumped on a suck up general so she can hunt Zuko with her girls. Zuko and Iroh are itinerant farm workers now, something that pisses Zuko off until he drops an epic reason-you-suck speech and fucks off to do "Zuko Alone."
Things I Liked
Aang learning healing. He's been afraid of his powers for a while, so getting the chance to see he can fix things too is great!
The way the parting of the waters was filmed.
The hints about Fire Nation politics. Ozai firing and imprisoning generals who fail him, publicly gassing Azula up and then immediately undermining her when she shows him up paint an interesting picture. That general sucking up to Azula, calling her the Fire Lord, etc. Sets up some interesting potential that we'll have to see how they pay off.
I've been a fan of Rekha Sharma since Battlestar Galactica, so its nice to see her again.
Things I Didn't Like
Pacing. This episode dragged enough that I actually got bored even in the middle of fight scenes.
The mechanist reveals the comet plot in a way that moves things along but takes away from things which develop Sokka's character. Aang is a strategist now, I guess, so that's... something.
No Zuko banditry arc. The show likes to sand off characters' rougher edges and him just bitching about how he's better than farm labor instead of actively fucking over random people feels like a continuation of that trend. His rant at Iroh was pretty brutal, so maybe he'll do some robbery in the next episode.
Things I Don't Know How I Feel About
Azula making the girls fight. Cartoon Azula was subtle. When Ty Lee didn't immediately fall in line, Azula put pressure until TyLee changed her mind and realized not in a position to say no. Mai played along from the jump which was why her betrayal came as such a shock. Here Azula literally ask Mai who she would pick and threatens to kill both girls if they don't fight to the death as a loyalty test. It does so many things to their dynamics and it is not remotely subtle.
Gather Up Every Wayward Lock - The girls do their hair, now with 100% more character development. (Katara, Azula, Toph)
Seven Stories of Uncles and Nephews - Zuko couldnāt ask for a better father than his uncle and Iroh loves the boy like a second son. Ā 7 very short stories written for Irko Week 2009. (Zuko, Iroh)
The Last Cheese Bender - It was amazing just how much of Air Nomad cuisine had survived, but none of the other nations ate cheese. Aang was going to change that. (Aang, the Gaang)
Playing With Fire (The Dubiously Consensual Remix) - People didnāt tell Azula no. (Azula/Ty Lee)
The Thing With Wings -Ā Aang had a son. Ā He would teach him airbending and never be alone again. (Aang, Bumi II)
Chips and Blocks - Lin called Toph āChifā for years before some well-meaning busybody taught her to say 'Momā instead. Ā Toph isnāt sure what kind of mom she is, but she knows which kind she doesnāt want to be. (Toph, Lin)
Half a Phoenix (The Out of the Past and Into the Future Remix) - Everyone has a lesson to teach. Ā Ozai and his granddaughter learn a lot from each other. (Ozai, Zuko, Zukoās daughter)
Conversations on the Road to Splitsville - Tenzin and Lin were never going to work, it just took him a long time to realize that. (Lin/Tenzin, Pema/Tenzin)
Sweep, Stir, Sew - When your daughter is the Avatar, motherhood is an exercise in letting go. (Senna/Tonraq, Korra)
Ten-Thousand Words (Which Wont See The Light of Day) - A series of short stories about the ladies of the Legend of Korra. (Asami, Pema, Ikki, Lin, Ginger, Senna, Katara)
People Skills - Bolinās not too smart but heās good with people and heās okay with that. (Bolin)
Element of Freedom - Opal knows what she wants, she just needs to be convinced to go for it. (Opal, Korra)
Girl, Gotten (The Heroine After Remix) - As long as Asamiās the hero, Korraās okay being the love interest. (Korra/Asami)
Leaves on the Wind - What comes next? Two short stories about the next Avatar. (Korra, Asami, OCs)
Crossovers
Tales of Albuquerque - A car bombing in San Francisco lands Marshall Mary Shannon in a whole lot of hot tea or Zuko and Iroh hide out from the Flame Triad in witness protection. AtLA/In Plain Sight (Zuko, Iroh, Mary Shannon)
The Start of a Long Summer - Azula steps through a wardrobe to find a kidnapping faun and a wintry kingdom ripe for regime change. AtLA/Chronicles of Narnia (Azula, Tumnus)
ohhhh shit. target is recalling their up & up baby wipes (fragrance free & fresh cucumber scented) because they're contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli, multiple people are reporting discoloration & infections. i just got a call about it cuz i had purchased those but i've already gone through them š so no refund for me. but im fine. if you have these they're saying you need to immediately stop using them and bring them back to target for a full refund. this bacteria can cause life threatening infections in children/infants and people with compromises immune systems (ESPECIALLY cystic fibrosis!!) and i know lots of other chronically ill people follow me!!!!

i have access to powers and locations that he cannot access independently; he needs my help to navigate the world i've brought him to
i simply found him outside and abducted him one day
there are many cats in the world, but this one is the best and my most favorite. why? because he was available to abduct that morning and for very little other reason.
i have a much greater understanding of this world than him, but he has unshakable confidence in his ability to figure it out and i find that really cute
the power dynamic is fundamentally unbalanced, but i let him have a little audacity. a little combativeness and sass. as a treat.
some humans are needlessly cruel to cats or take them in for a short time before neglecting or abandoning them. but i have chosen to love and guard this one with my life. because i think he's neat.
he is very well-treated and has pretty much everything he could possibly want or need, but he is my prisoner.
