I grew up following the troops across every stinking, cesspit battlefield there was. Fighting for scraps just to survive. I learnt never to let anything go. No matter how hard they bite, scratch, or tear, you hold on to what is yours.

Litzer The Thing (1982) AU
Sol Tozer came to Antarctica for a quiet life. He takes care of his dogs, plays a mean game of table tennis, and flies the base’s scientists wherever they need to go before winter sets in. This year is already off to a bad start when a one-night stand with chemical biologist, Edward Little, leaves Sol with a vicious hangover and the other man avoiding him, but things get a whole lot worse when a strange dog appears at the base.
As the rest of their team succumb one by one to the intruder’s influence, Sol and Edward are forced to work together to ensure this infection doesn’t spread to the rest of the world.
figured i’m allowed to post these now they’ve been revealed

— 1867, Colorado Territory
Edward Little left war behind him when he quit the Navy, buried his epaulets in a trunk, and abandoned the bitter memories of burning Crimea. He packed his bags for America, following in the footsteps of pioneers who traveled the mountains before him, and when he settled in a remote corner of the Rockies, he retired to what he hoped would be a calmer life—one untainted by the broken empires of the old world.
When the first settlement burned, it was nothing but the hand of God: a combined thunderstorm and drought ravaging the land. But when the second and the third homesteads burned, Little realized that there was more at stake, a threat more treacherous than he had wanted to believe.
He began to track whispers and rumors, and whispers of rumors, until he learned of an outlaw gang lead by a spectral figure known only by the name E.C.
Little needed an army, and he needed one fast. He recruited the help of six unlikely heroes; Francis Crozier, a naval captain who traded prizes for bounties; his right hand man and sharpshooter Thomas Jopson; trapper and recluse and local legend Tom Blanky; naturalist and surgeon Harry Goodsir; his assistant and fellow renowned scientist Silna; and a Jesuit missionary turned adventurer with a dangerously lost look to his eyes John Irving.
They were a motley crew, but Little was in no position to beg for more. All seven of them took to the mountains, following a trail of ash and bone until they found a trace of E.C.’s gang in the heart of the range, where the rocks were taller than men and where snow fell year-round.
Little only hoped that he would live to tell the tale.

“ I could give you a list of favourite artists & why I like them regardless of the time period or medium” Um not the original anon but I would LOVE to read this
ridiculous how i spent years trying to do a phd on 18th-century art and then when i have to answer this question i produce a list that doesn't feature any artist prior to the 19th century. i just vibe with 19th and 20th century art more, woops.
(prior to the 19th century though... i'd rec Sofonisba Anguissola's self-portraits and Artemisia Gentileschi's history paintings and Rembrandt's prints. I think engraving might be my favourite medium)
-> under the cut because long + pictures <-
