Thinking about this post
my body is not a flesh prison, it’s a divine weapon that I get to inhabit during my time on this earth. And also it’s fuckable like crazy
this post doing numbers with sexworkers i’m mutuals with who don’t reblog trans women lol
I really need to start re-framing my head to include this view of myself.
John "I will literally fuck anyone" Constantine. He's the Jack Harkness of DC.
The whole “capitalism gave you the Internet” thing is especially funny if you actually work in network infrastructure, since one of the first things you’ll learn is that many software technologies that are absolutely critical to the day to day functioning of the Internet are being maintained on a volunteer basis by small, decentralised teams working in whatever free time their day jobs leave them, and that we’d have a crisis on our hands within thirty days if any one of those maintainers were to get hit by a bus and nobody stepped up to replace them. Like, the whole commercial edifice of the Internet rests on the continuous unpaid labour of a relative handful of people who are essentially just doing it for fun.
if you’re interested in reading more about it
I can't tell you how true this is without falling back to a recent example. In August of last year 3.5% of all global internet traffic went down. Just estimating, the average daily traffic for the planet was around 7 Exabytes at the time. I cannot even begin to tell you how much traffic that actually was in a way that you can wrap your head around (I do this for a living and I can't).
Do you know what led to that outage? A small error by someone who was either overworked, inexperienced, or - given the state of this industry - both. One error that was easily overlooked caused CenturyLink's infrastructure to become a blackhole (the technical term) where traffic could enter their network but could never leave.
I was on shift when it happened. I watched in real time as some of the most important communications backbones on Earth came to a screeching halt. It was terrifying and frustrating, because it forces you to realize how fragile it all really is.

We would all like very much to turn our brains off to the wrongs in the world. It would be easy. Close our eyes and ignore it so we can try to live in our little bubbles and move on. That is a quick way to doom ourselves and cause pain for those around us.
The USA is a nation that is deeply flawed. I say that as someone who swore the oath of service and spent eight years of my life on active duty. I love this country. But we are broken and always have been. I can't love my nation and ignore that at the same time. I can't close my eyes to it.
We have ignored the racism and hate thrown every day at POC. We turn a blind eye as corporations destroy more indigenous sacred lands. We crawl under the covers and hide our heads as fascists grow in numbers.
We scream about the financial burden of helping others through programs like universal Healthcare, Universal Basic Income, and affordable housing, while the rich milk us for all the can and store their wealth in tax havens.
We demand that our children go to college to be eligible for even an entry level position and ignore the incredible financial, medical, and mental costs that requires of them.
America is my home, and I would fight and die to protect it. That's still true, even well after taking off the uniform. However, America needs to change. We need to push for that change and stop hoping it will just happen. We need to implement programs that will support each other. We need to place a stronger focus on education, healthcare, and political reform.
We need to admit that the America we have placed on a pedestal is a tarnished trophy in need of polish. We need to remember that we owe it to our country and to each other to do better.
Because if we don't do something soon, the American experiment will burn itself out.
The last 48 hours have been a roller-coaster of emotions for me, just as it has been for many of you. Things have been incredibly difficult for years now, and it is all boiling over. I'm tired of living in uncertain times, and I'm tired of living in fear. I know so many of you feel the same way.
If you need someone to talk to, I'm here for you, like you've been here for me. I'll listen, because sometimes we all need someone to act as the Amazonian mom who will fight for us. You are worthy of that, and you deserve better.
Sorry to say, but they do the exact same thing for humans too.
It’s amazing how people in the notes and comments are absolutely FURIOUS at me for the included Frozen comparison. Special shout out to everyone trying to prove that real people look like this.
Not to mention that when people edit these characters to have better facial proportions, the originals look like bizarre fish people.
How humans draw themselves is always fascinating to me
op why are you speaking like you aren’t human i’m scared
Eh…perhaps read my blog description.
this post has EVERYTHING
I think I know the reason for why people prefer “unrealistic” animation.
For some reason, humans really don’t like things that look like humans but aren’t quite human. Hence why a lot of people are uncomfortable with movies with animation like Monster House and The Polar Express. It looks too realistic to us and sets us off.
Scientists call this the “Uncanny Valley” effect and its thought to be an evolutionary tactic for survival.
The funny part is. No other animals that we know of experience the uncanny valley effect. Only humans. Which leaves the question: what was out there that mimicked humans so well and was so dangerous to us that we evolved to have this as a tactic for survival?
Oh hell yeah this is what I’m here for

@hitodama89
Okay, I’ve seen this thread a dozen times before, but not with this addendum.
Our ancient ancestors evolved alongside numerous other subspecies. Homo erectus, homo habilis, and Robust Austalopiths all existed at the same time. More recently on the geological scale Homo sapiens and Homo neander (Neanderthal) competed for resources and space. We likely evolved to recognize something that looks much like us, but just slightly different, as a threat. Possibly the origin of the Uncanny Valley.

Damn, I'm cute.
forgetting #3 “I never suffered so the people claiming they’re suffering are exaggerating”
leaving out #4 “You have no idea what I’ve suffered. You would have never survived what I survived.”
Leaving out #5 "Your suffering makes my life easier so I'm going to make sure you keep suffering."
I… I can’t believe this joke is real and came out of the party popper my sister just opened.
Holding the actual joke in my hand again and still can’t believe it’s real.

Adventures in Quarantine: made a hot dog and took the dogs for another walk. If I had to be stuck somewhere I am so glad I fucking made it out of Florida and somewhere I can actually enjoy just being at.
