sci fi is all about getting so scared and ripping tubes out of yourself. people miss this
sci fi is all about desperately trying to reclaim your violated bodily autonomy. it’s all about asserting that you are a being with agency, and you can choose what happens to your own person, even if that’s ripping tubes out of yourself. and also sometimes an alien is there
living weapon who is pampered. living weapon who is spoiled and praised and treated So Well (only when they behave). whumper who talks about living weapon whumpee like they're their most prized possession, the rarest gun in a collection, their favourite thing in the world.
"Oh no, you don't want that one. It's set to be decomissioned, it's defective. Killed it's last two handlers."
Handler's eyes focus between the bars of the cage, taking in the cuffs, the muzzle, the defiant posture. LW stares back, blank faced, save for the lightest spark of hate in their eyes.
"Well, I do love a challenge."
Defiant whumpee not saying anything but having a stare filled with so much rage it could kill.
Whumper making it a goal to fill those eyes with fear and despair instead.

I love characters who are like "I'm a terrible person" but when you look closer it's more like
"I adapted to survive something and now I don't know how to stop being that version of myself."
When Whumpee’s experience with Caretaker unfortunately resembles their experience with Whumper.
A Whumpee who’s been kept in long-term captivity, who’s used to being constantly surveilled. Locked up in one particular room, unable to leave the house/building/structure that Whumpee keeps them in, Whumper constantly over their shoulder. Whumpee who’s kept weak or injured so that they’re forced to rely on Whumper, who is vindictive and neglectful.
By the time they’re rescued and taken in by Caretaker, their body is weak and battered. Again, they feel like they’re never left alone. Although they’re safe now, and in gentle hands, they can’t deny that some days they still don’t have the energy to leave the room, they barely leave the house, and when they do Caretaker always comes with them. They still have to rely on Caretaker for things that they really wish they didn’t. And they’re supposed to be grateful. They’re supposed to be so glad that Caretaker is doing all this for them. And yet… Whumpee can’t help but feel restless and trapped even still.
Living Weapon being forced to kill mindless clones of their loved ones over and over again to desensitize them for when/if they ever have to do it for real.

Handler caring for Living Weapon as if they were any other tool
Washing and braiding their hair. More intricate braids to show off how compliant LW is
Ending training early because Handler knows where LWs limits are better than LW does.
LW gets hurt, and Handler fights anyone trying to send them back out into the field before they're fully healed up
Manhandling LW, showing a colleague all their specialties, comparing it with someone elses LW
Finding a new bruise on LW that they didn't put there and demanding to know where it came from. Punishing LW for not taking better care of themselves, don't they know how valuable they are?
"My last one was bigger but this one is so much faster."
Buying new "accessories" to make LW more lethal, brass knuckles, new knives, etc
Some of those accessories are surgical enhancements.
Piercings as accessories or badges showing Handlers accomplishments
You deserve someone that's going to appreciate you. You deserve someone that wants to be excited about when you get home. You deserve someone that wants to hold your hand during those bad days. You deserve someone that's going to love the worst parts of you.

I need more living weapons having crazy reflexes. catching shit, adjusting, deflecting, etc without flinching or even seeming to process what is going on. and like, in mundane ways specifically ! catching someone from falling or slipping, deflecting things, etc.
idk I've just been watching a lot of compilations of people having good or weird reflexes and I need to see / hear about this more with living weapons because they probably would have really excellent, if not superhuman, reflexes.
thinking about kaey having excellent reflexes. thinking about him being a parent and a pet owner and having those reflexes translate really well into caring for living things.
I think there's a lot you can do with it too. is the living weapon surprised ? are they embarrassed ?
I love this!! the casual hypercompetence in mundane situations...
I raise you: living weapon is sincerely perplexed at how clumsy and distracted everyone else is.
People find it somewhere between endearing and annoyingly smug of them. Until living weapon reacts utterly baffled at the notion anyone could *not* constantly be hyperaware of their surroundings and primed to react to every possible incoming danger at all times.
Their cool, excellent reflexes were always fueled by hypervigilance.
Whumpee grits her teeth, holding back a whimper as the stranger probes her injury. She's brisk, not cruel, but it hardly matters - the damage runs too deep. Whumpee braces for what the stranger will demand of her, and dares to hope. She has been merciful thus far. In this state, Whumpee can't offer much; can barely stand, she knows, without incurring further damage.
The stranger hisses through her teeth. "Okay. It's okay." It's a strange tone for orders, but she's clearly talking to Whumpee. "Can you walk?"
Whumpee's heart drops. She knows the right choice here - the only choice.
"Yes, ma'am."

Whumpee's nails dig into their fists. Their eyes squeeze shut so hard their head hurts. They bite the inside of their cheek until they taste iron. Anything, anything to keep from crying out from the searing pain.
But when they finally can't take it anymore, when the muffled scream finally rattles against the gag -- Whumper stops.
Whumpee opens their eyes and looks at them, momentarily stunned.
And Whumper smiles. And tilts their head.
"Ah. That sound. I love that sound."
And then they continue.
One of the biggest “whump awakenings” I guess you could call it came from a book I read as a kid where the main character was accused of a crime and declared a “wolf’s head” which was described to mean he was no longer considered human, he could be killed or harmed or anything by anyone and they would face no consequences. So in a lot of things I write, that’s a concept I think about a lot. It’s not that a character is being actively hunted, it’s that there’s nothing protecting them. The only thing keeping them safe is someone else’s decision to do so.
