Just Plain Whump

“Whumpee,” whumper interrupts, voice grim but calm, hands steadying. “Look at me.”

Whumpee does.

the zipper is stuck. the fucking zipper is stuck, whumpee can't get this stupid fucking zipper down, and they have to. they have to, because if they don't get this shit off immediately, they're going to be sick. it's dirty. they are dirty. their whole body is dirty, and they can't exactly peel off their skin, but they can get off every stitch of fabric that they were wearing when- when whumper- when-

"hey, i was looking for- whoa! whoa, shit, sorry!"

caretaker's voice isn't any louder than a normal conversational volume but whumpee flinches anyway, cringing away from the newcomer to the room. if it had been anyone else, maybe whumpee wouldn't have done it. but it isn't anyone else. it's caretaker. it's caretaker, who whumpee trusts more than they can put to words.

they tug at the piece of clothing they'd desperately been trying to get off. it's- it's stained, there's fluids on it, and if caretaker gets any closer they'll see, but whumpee needs-

"please help me," they beg, voice cracking and shuddering. "i can't- the zipper is- i need it off, please, i need it off. please."

"okay." caretaker's agreement is quick and easy, soft and worried. their eyes narrow as they study whumpee's body, the clothes already discarded on the floor, the way that whumpee is standing and the stains. worry grows swiftly into fear, into the horrible dread of what's happened. "okay, i'm gonna help you. i'll get it off you. just- just hold still. it's okay."

the whumper who did it guides them through the room while being too touchy, even to the dazed whumpee. they meet some of their mutual friends along the way.

"don't worry, whumpee went a little overboard with the alcohol," whumper laughs it off and everyone believes them, because whumper is a great friend and an even better liar, "i'll take care of them."

whumpee cant protest, their mouth not forming the right words. even if they could speak, it'd sound like mindless rambling. whumper wouldnt do something like that

"Whumpee, I'm fine. The bullet just grazed me, I don't need an ambulance," Leader protests.

It's then that they see the expression of pain on Whumpee's face, the hand pressed to their side, the redness starting to soak into their clothes.

yay for accountability, i guess?

i hope to ease back into writing this summer, so i shall follow @the-wip-project 's call and set some goals!

mainly, i want to work on my main wip. it's about trauma and survival, about unrequited love bringing out the worst in people, about toxic family dynamics and a bit of murder.

secondly, i want to add a chapter or two to princess and/or to pet safety.

for this week, in particular, the goals are:

- write next chapter princess

- write a short text about pinkwashing for our queer network's newsletter (it's writing!!)

Yeah, so I didn't do any of it.

I didn't fail anyone (my colleague couldn't tell me more about that newsletter assignment and I'll do it once she comes back to me), just myself; and I guess it's okay.

What I did instead is:

I had a lovely long weekend off work and went to the library and read 1.2 books that could both entertain me and remind me why, what and how I want to write and that really inspired me.

I set a date to meet two writers I've met, who are entirely different from every writer around me (and like at least 20 years older than me), to do a little writing workshop next month. They are both really great with words and narrating stories, and I feel very honored that they seem to feel like that about my writing as well.

So, I still call this a win towards my goal of writing more, and the simple thing about setting this week's goals is: half of what I wanted to do last week.
