To jump on USA as a Russian is certainly a choice. Russia is an imperialistic country with a long story of colonialism and with all that entails. And at the same time it's not only slavs who participate in Russian war aggressions, so this argument about minorities of colour also works here. You really think you know american politics so well that you decide to use USA as an example? I'm not an american, btw.

Yes, are we sure it is appropriate to equate (equate, not compare) absolutely real events with fictional? Do you have at least a bit of respect for these people? This is not a fucking cartoon.

Yeah, a canon story about slav/inuit or brit/inuit e-t-l and not a hypothetical love story between people of fictional (heavily inspired but still fictional) ethnicities when? Ah yes, such stories exist and unlike Zutara they are harmful in many ways, you just don't want to pay attention.

This single paragraph is enough to prove that they don't care about the real victims. It proves that this whole "Oh, you damn Zutarians! Forcing a victim of colonization to be with her colonizer!" act is just a facade to feel morally superior and shut down a ship they don't like more effectively than "it doesn't make sense because it's not canon."

Because all you've done from minute one is ignore Katara's true feelings towards Zuko, and now you're doing it to the few of us who actually have a voice to speak about the issue. You people value more the opinion on colonization of a white person who agrees with you, than the one of a real POC who is pro-Zutara.

None of us are trying to fulfill a desire to be treated like humans through shipping; what the hell is wrong with that person? That's the fictional idea you all created in your heads, the damn idea that makes you think that's the reason we ship Zutara. You all never listen to what we have to say, you never listen to our arguments, you've been trying to silence us for a long time. You don't care what poc say because you don't like what they have to say.

Besides, I'm really, REALLY surprised that she didn't know about the KKK community. I'm not American, and I barely know that it's a racist community responsible for various horrible things. But damn, even with my limited knowledge, I wouldn't use a tag like that, especially if I don't know what I'm talking about.

I can't believe she had to screw up BIG to realize her toxic and unproductive behavior. From the moment she started posting anti-zks content in the Zutara tag just to annoy and make people feel bad, it should have been enough for her to realize that this whole scandal already showed clear irrational attitudes.

And now what will be left? She will be remembered as the anti-Zk who thought it was a great idea to use a SERIOUS term that involves hounding a whole group of people for the sake of making another comment to irritate people, just to mock a character that doesn't even exist, all because she wanted to... what exactly? Prove she could get rid of the Zutarians? mock them enough so they'd stop commenting about their ship? encourage people to harass a bunch of people just because a few are annoying?

And of course, there are people (probably her followers or friends) defending her. Do they really think it's just because of the tag?

This is a comment on her apology post. This isn't the first time this has happened, and if it hadn't been such a serious tag, she'd still be doing it. Fortunately, zutaranti mentioned "she will leave," and honestly, that's for the best.

With Mai he's all affectionate, emo, and for some reason he enjoys being treated with sarcasm.

With Jet we have a Zuko who is distrustful, irritated and annoyed all the time.

With Sokka we have the most adorable being in the world, or the cutest diva of all

(These last two ships often interpreted Zuko as a femboy as well, but it's more like a smaller number of people do that)

With Katara we have something like a calm leader being supportive with his wife

With Jin... we don't get much of Jinko. Zuko is sweet, Jin is too, they love each other, and that's it. It's just that sometimes I feel like they use Jin as compensation for Zuko after all the suffering he went through, something like, "You went through a tough time, here's a reward," and it's Jin. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE JINKO, but I don't know, it lacks depth.

With Toph, well, before the movie, it was kind of like... the older boy who's the younger girl's crush, a typical teen movie cliché. And for some reason, in their fan art, they decided to make Toph much smaller than she actually was.

After the movie, I don't know, there's no consistency. Sometimes he's a booktok boyfriend who gets jealous and dominates his partner, or sometimes he's that cliché of a submissive and quiet husband who has a wife who treats him like a "dog," not in a derogatory way... more like, he doesn't have his own thoughts and just agrees to everything his wife says.

I have to agree with you on the Zutoph stuff. I’m not inherently against those two characters being shipped as adults when the age gap is not an issue. I’m also understanding that the Zuko rescuing Toph scene the post-movie shipping is built around is pretty romantic (kind of like the keeping rocks from crushing you bit that is core for Zutara fandom). But the fandom romance tropes around them aren’t really doing it for me. The post-movie narratives are the ones I personally dislike though. The booktok dominant boyfriend Zuko I find kind of cringey and very out of character, and the submissive husband thing also seems a bit of a power fantasy? Granted, it’s a preference so people are allowed to do what they like. I just don’t get it.

And indeed, we as people have different dynamics with each person we meet, we act differently, sometimes we even start to think differently.

It's just that with ships, I think everyone creates their own version of Zuko, which ultimately ends up being a shared OC. There are so many versions of him for every character in the fandom that it just makes me wonder, "What would Zuko really do?"

And honestly, I think this is because everyone who likes a certain ship does so for a specific reason, so they mold it to fit that reason. Zuko is sweet and sensitive, and yet he acts hostile towards Jet, whereas canonically with his partners, he acts genuinely gentle (or at least tries to). This is because people like to see tension, toxicity, love disguised as hate.

The only possessiveness he's shown on the show was in the beach episode, and it was the worst version of Zuko we've seen up to that point. He never behaved like that again. He even tries to get along with Mai's new boyfriend in the comics and literally does nothing when the guy practically tells him to his face, "She's not yours anymore, she's mine now" (ughh).

And yet people interpret it as a possessive alpha CEO who can't stand Toph breathing near another man. And that's because that's what people like, that's what they enjoy.

I always thought I'd start liking Z/toph once the age difference wasn't an issue anymore, because the pre-movie content really had potential. Now it's just so... flat and irritating. I hate the ship more than ever 😭 and it's not the first time Zuko has acted like this in a ship, it happens with Zutara too, sometimes with Zukka, even with Maiko. Man, I HATE IT.

have y’all noticed how our tags have been getting flooded with anti-zutara content and constant cross-tagging lately? that’s not a coincidence. on twitter, some kataang shippers are literally encouraging people to come onto tumblr to “fight back” against zutara shippers; and, as you can see from some screenshots, to straight-up bully them.

these people are not in our tags looking for respectful debate or polite conversation. they’re here looking for fights and excuses to harass people over a cartoon ship. (saying that out loud is honestly embarrassing enough already).

another important thing to note: zutaranti is a genuinely problematic person, and you can read more about it. her little bootlicking followers aren’t much better either, constantly copying her behavior, eating up everything she says, going through the trenches to defender her, moving like an actual cult sometimes lol.

and she constantly screenshots our posts to post on twitter so people can dogpile us. a lot of those screenshots are intentionally cropped or taken out of context just to push a narrative. she even screenshots posts from people who responded to her. because her goal was never to have a civilized discussion, clarify her points, or genuinely engage with what zutara shippers are saying. she’s just here to screenshot, mock people later, and encourage her followers do to the same.

The second season hasn't even premiered yet, we don't even know if these are the same scenes, we don't even know if she is Katara, or THE SPIRIT HERSELF, because I remind you, The Painted Lady is a real spirit within the Avatar universe.

Even if she is Katara and she joins Zuko, it wouldn't preclude her from appearing in the third season and performing the same act as in the series. However, I don't see the Blue Spirit joining her as a possible scenario. For starters, Katara learned about this spirit in the village she protected. It would be very strange if she suddenly decided to wear THAT outfit instead of a cape or the uniform she wore in TSR to go on a mission. That outfit is anything but sporty, and she doesn't know anything about the Painted Lady yet.

UNLESS she first does what she did in the original series, and then, having her alter ego, she decides to use it for the supposed mission she will carry out. This proves they won't delete the original scene, it will only happen sooner than expected so she has a heroine disguise.

Furthermore, this blessed mission that everyone is clamoring for is that she's on her way to rescue Aang in Ba Sing Se. YOUR DYNAMIC IS RIGHT THERE, DUMBASS. The roles are reversed, the girl saves the hero. If they were eliminating their blessed, all-important bond, we wouldn't see Katara so determined to infiltrate Ba Sing Se and risk her life to RESCUE AANG. She didn't do that in the original script because she was sick, she is now determined to save "the love of her life".

The fact that she's joining the Blue Spirit to save Aang only confirms what you've all been saying this whole time, right? "Katara and Zuko would choose Aang over each other"? Wasn't that what you kept repeating to discredit Zutara? It's coming true now, so what's the problem?

I think you guys are the ones creating the Zutara fanfic; even we haven't come up with such ideas. Kataangers exalted to confirm that Zutara will be canon in NATLA, and Zutarians furiously trying to assure why it won't be—it's a scenario of pure fiction, something no one ever imagined.

My theory: Fan service, pure fan service. That scene might not even happen in Book 2, what I have understood is that the actors have also filmed some scenes for Book 3. It could just be a preview of Book 3, a post-credits scene from the season finale. They might not even be the same scenes, but they still put them together to generate what they're so good at: driving fans crazy and attracting viewers with the most famous ship in the fandom. It doesn't matter if the reaction is negative or positive; If there's a reaction, more people will be eager to see it. That's how it works.

They did it in the trailer for Book 3 of the original show, so why not do it again, since it worked so well for them? That strategy worked so well that people now just treat it as a coincidence, they completely washed their hands of it. They knew what they were doing when they cut the scene of Katara pulling away from Aang's kiss to the scene of her hugging Zuko. They knew what that would cause: how excited the fans would be to see their ship canon, their theories confirmed.

And then to mock them to their faces.

Except from what I can see, it'll probably be the other way around. Katara will likely end up alone, without any interaction with either Zuko or Aang (or conversely, Kataang will be canon). And you guys who were on the verge of a heart attack over the ships will just look like idiots for going overboard.

This might not age well; Zutara might become canon. So what? I might not be right, but I'll have my ship. Either way, it'll be a win for me.
