I am running a marathon with a twisted ankle and it hurts but some pain is normal, right? Everyone says it's supposed to be hard. It is a marathon after all. I am running a marathon with a twisted ankle but honestly it could be worse, right? I heard someone once finished with a broken leg. The ankle is nothing compared to that. I am running a marathon with a twisted ankle but you can get used to pain, right? The body can endure almost anything. The problem is always the mind. I am running a marathon with a twisted ankle but I made it this far, that means I can keep going, right? Everyone says it's supposed to be hard. It is a marathon after all.

That last post I reblogged got me thinking again about how people canāt separate their idea of manhood from violence.
Itās like some people are capable of imagining womanhood without submission but canāt imagine manhood without dominance. Like for some reason in their minds women can escape their gender norms and make a new definition of what gender is for themselves but men canāt.
My cishet dad has often told me that he found feminist theory to be very freeing. It told him that yes men can be gentle and caring. Yes men can be sensitive. Being a man means what you want it to mean.
Iāve met other cishet men that feel the same way. I really do like talking with cis men about gender sometimes. You really see them become a lot happier when they fully internalize the idea that being a man means whatever they want it to mean.
A āreal manā is a myth.
You get told a lot as a man āreal men do or donāt do xyzā. Iāve even experienced this as a trans man.
but the āreal manā is an impossible standard to achieve. He doesnāt exist. Heās a mythical being to strive towards. You will never be him and trying to be him will trap you in a cage.
If you think that masculinity is a prison, what you need to realize is that the bars are unlocked and there are no guards. Youāve been talked into your cage like an elephant on a string and you can open the door at any time.
And if youāre into women and worried about what women will think if youāre not āmanly enoughā, my question to you is, why would you settle for someone who wants to talk you back into your cage?
Start commenting "not all men" in posts saying something positive about men
I actually do think we should discourage women from becoming housewives. Do not become financially dependent on a man. That's how a lot of women ended up dead over the years. A man gets violent suddenly and you have to choose between homelessness or potentially dying at his hand because you have an enormous gap in your resume and no degrees or certifications or anything that will help you pursue a career that will allow you to be financially independent. He owns your bank account. His name is probably the one on the car. Try and leave and he can report it stolen. Where will you go then?
Don't become a housewife.
And if you do become a housewife, take steps to protect yourself. Make sure youāre legally married, for starters; stay-at-home girlfriends have very little legal recourse to claim their partnerās assets in a breakup. Make sure your name is on the house deed/rental agreement, and have your car in your name, even if your spouse is paying for it. Have your spouse transfer money every month into an account solely in your name, so you can buy yourself things without needing permission, but also so you can save up to leave if needed.
If your spouse fights you on any of this, then donāt quit your job. The tradwife to poverty pipeline is real, and so is financial abuse.
also, many women/people experience controlling behaviour and domestic violence from their partner for the first time during pregnancy. donāt risk thinking āheās just stressed, itāll get better when the baby comesā because it wonāt. neither you and your child will ever be safe with that man. get out as early and safely as you can
Okay but after seeing this I started doing it too and itās amazing how many men Iāve run into bc they expected me to move
Gotta try it
I work (and walk) on a college campus. Iāve lost count of how many men Iāve smacked shoulders with.
Recently, I was standing outside my sonās classroom waiting to talk to his teacher. I stood on one side of the hallway, not even close to the center. At some point, a man came walking along. I was standing right in his path, but the hallway was empty, so I logically expected him to swerve around me. Instead he kept walking right toward me, got to me, and stopped, as if waiting for me to get out of his way. I didnāt; I just smiled politely at him. He finally walked around me, clearly annoyed that I hadnāt leapt out of his manly path.
Now Iām wishing Iād leapt aside, taken off my jacket and laid it on the floor before him, then bowed deeply and said, āMy Liege!ā
I also work at a college campus. I smack shoulders sometimes, but I find that if I stare straight ahead and follow the advice below, people get the heck out of the way.
Honestly this post changed how I carry myself when walking alone in public, or in a situation where Iām the one leading. People definitely move for the murder gaze.
Confirmed. I once had to rush back inside a convention hall as the con was closing in order to a retrieve a sick friendās medication, and I didnāt understand why people in the crowd were jumping out of my way (literallyāone guy vaulted a table) until I realized I was dressed as the Winter Soldier and doing the Murder Walk because thatās just how I walk in those boots. I got the meds, got out, and made a mental note.
I repeated the experiment later, wearing the boots but otherwise my usual clothing and mimicking the expression I thought Iād had at that moment. People parted like I was Charlton Heston.
I now wear that style of boots whenever possible. I recently had a man do a double-take as I walked by and ask me, politely, where I had served because I ālooked like a soldier.ā Iām not current or former military. I was wearing a flowy purple peasant top and looked as un-soldierlike as possible.
Moral of the story: wear comfortable shoes, square your shoulders, and walk like youāve been sent to murder Captain America.
WALK LIKE YOUāVE BEEN SENT TO MURDER CAPTAIN AMERICA
Itās called the Murder Strut.
ITāS BACK!!!!!! I was searching for this to show my daughter the other day and couldnāt find it. Iām so glad ITāS BACK!! I will always reblog the Murder Strut!!
A guy on a bike went around me because he could tell I had no intention of moving. Thanks to this post.
One day and I bumped into a guy while doing the Murder Strut and he apologized to me even though I was the one who had bumped into him.
It works wonders.
In case you were wondering, yes you can do this in a wheelchair. Same look in your eyes and let āem know you will run them down. Just picture yourself in a sports car accelerating towards someone with the intention of flattening them.
If thereās anything more satisfying than watching Abled men leap out of my way when they realize Iām not moving for them, I canāt think of it atm.
Walk like youāve been sent to murder Captain America.
Wheel like youāre gonna win the Indy 500 and donāt care how.
Your crutches are short swords; walk like you can see them buried in the bodies of anyone who crosses (in front of) you.
Tumblr: teaching women how to be Moses and part the fucking Red Sea with the power of their minds.
I had never seen these updates to the Patriarchy Chicken Game before and they are all a goddam DELIGHT
Patriarchy Chicken and The Murder Strut, dance names for the new millenium.Ā
You really gotta learn to take up your space, ladies, because this is what itās about. Too many of us are conditioned to take up as little space as possible and there are men that actively use that. Itās why those men expect you to step aside, and itās also why they know manspreading works. They count on the woman next to them to move to one corner of her seat. If you instead take up all of your seat the manspreading will soon stop because the manspreader will feel uncomfortable with his leg touching your leg. Yes, it will be uncomfortable for you too but that will quickly be overcome by the satisfaction of having your seat all to you.
Youāve got to take up space.
Fascinating glimpse into the american world. Here in Germany, everybody, men or women, just take a half step to pass each other. I have very rarely run into anyone. And I could not tell if there was a gendered pattern. If you donāt move, I would just assume you were distracted and didnāt pay attention to your surroundings.
But our traffic laws start with: āBe careful and considered to eachotherā. And we learn that shit in bicycle-class when we are around 7 or 8. And us Germans just love rules.
here's where to find it on windows 10
