The problem w the level of tracking i need to do for insurance is i am chronically ill. The times I most need to be able to track anything is when I feel the shittiest and most brain fogged. Which hinders my ability to remember to do that at all. Its not like im getting symptoms on a strict schedule, an alarm or reminder doesnt work.
people on here who have been on 10-15+ years like myself...i don't know how they claim that there were never any Black bloggers on here, or that it was always such a white website. trudy gradientlair was on here. thisiswhiteprivilege was on here. there was a feminist citation project sara ahmed was involved in on here. there was someone on here whose username was wretchedoftheearth and that was how i learned who fanon was when i was 12, by googling those words. tumblr was the only place i knew i could go to get accurate & compassionate info about what happened to trayvon martin, when everyone around me irl was rabidly racist. the amount of reportage and scholarship that happened on here before the first big wave of bans was so huge and so much has been lost. where were you when it was happening??? why weren't you paying attention??
Every time people speak about how all the "problematic" people left the site and went to Twitter, I simply presume whoever says it is racist. Everyone who wanted to try to discourage people from returning here when Twitter was overrun, I presume was antiblack. Twitter became unsafe and Black people STILL kept at it, because it was literally still more productive for them to do work there than it was to try doing it here.
There were folks here that I know elsewhere now who literally help save lives in their communities and have online safe spaces in other places that they were able to build and cultivate. Seeing Black people who became huge when they left here will always be my perception of Tumblr. It is a place that Black people started great work and were put out because the work wasn't valued by the white Tumblr population or was straight up sabotaged by them.
I FINALLY got back in touch with Cashawn, who was the first person who got "Black Girls are Magic" poppin. I hadn't been in touch with her for nearly a decade! Because she fucking left here. And there are a few, very few who tap in and see what's up over here every now and then. But a lot of them simply let Tumblr kick rocks and they were correct to do so.
And it was the central place, not just for Trayvon's story, but everyone's. When other sites were not giving information or giving construed information, there were so many boots on the ground activists who used THIS SITE to communicate their situations and tell you what was real. In fact, one of the main points of the purges were getting rid of activists who were using the site to keep others informed.
This WAS the site people came to for things, and then it had to become Twitter and there are still ignoramuses on here who chuckle "Twitter is having old convos from Tumblr lol" Twitter is having PRESENT convos that many of the same people who were having them on Tumblr had to go have them on Twitter instead, because Tumblr became unsafe for the work that they started here. Twitter is STILL having conversations that Black people have had to have in every space we occupy and are often run out of.
But, because Tumblr IS full of white people, their arrogance makes them think they are special and smart and revolutionary. They don't even know how much of the shit they say has been picked from the bones of something that Black people originally grew on Tumblr before they were deactivated or jumped ship.
Well even w leveling my skitarii, im still massively tankier w my psyker. Do love how skitarii handles maulers tho

I think at bare minimum all medical professionals need to make sure they are treating patients with more kindness and respect than grifters. if you go to a doctor and they treat you like shit, humiliate you, and send you home without any information on your body or access to treatment, then health-grifters' offers will start to feel more tempting by simply giving the most basic performance of taking you seriously and caring about your well-being. grifters should be condemned for manipulating and exploiting sick people, and doctors also play a role in whether grifts thrive or are successfully identified and rejected. genuine baseline human respect, and beginning a relationship with a patient by earning (rather than demanding) trust, goes a long way.
I think when you correctly identify a trauma that is the base of a woe of yours it should just disappear. It should be like "aaahh. you got me" and vanish and leave 100 dollars behind

Also also also dont trust any mf who tells you general ass plant advice that doesnt take your specific situation into account. I am so serious. I v specifically tell ppl hey, I dont know Shit abt plants that grow in places w real winter, I cannot help you. Someone makes a sweeping general statement abt what counts as a native plant, verify that shit is actually relevant to YOUR area.
I would actually go as far as to say that MOST abuse is unintentional. I think most people will go through their lives without ever experiencing intentional abuse. People are abusive because they're selfish, because they're stressed, because they care more about what society thinks they should do than the impacts of their actions on their children and partners, because they think what they're doing is correct, because they've made it make sense in their own heads, because they think they can fix their victims, they think they can fix their relationships, they think they can stop you from leaving, they think they can make you a better partner to them, they think that means you need to do what they want. We've sort of constructed mental illness in a way that doing this shit to other people counts as a form of mental illness because it is anti social behavior in the literal senseβ it is behavior that causes social harm.
I don't say any of this to excuse it. I think everyone needs to be more aware of this because if you think abuse has to be intentional you will never realize you are capable of abusive behavior. You will never realize you are being shitty to the people you love, because YOU know what you mean, YOU know you don't mean any harm. But you're doing harm. You need to pay attention to the impact you have on other people, and you need to do it all the time, Especially when you feel least capable of doing so. Sorry! You live in a society. Get your head out of your ass.
Also to continue that last post. There are some plant issues that are absolutely not a you problem, but rather capitalism + environment. Tulips in California are marketed as annuals or people who do know theyre perennial get v upset bc they never come up again if you plant them in the ground in southern California, thinking its a failure on their part to care for them correctly. Because they dont know that tulips require a freeze period to come up again. They arent necessarily dead in socal ground after the incorrect winter conditions, but they aren't getting what they need to do what you want them to. So there ARE solutions. Either 1 you accept that this is a way for companies to make more money off of your ignorance and stop buying them at absurd prices, 2 you keep buying them anyways and accept the waste, or 3 you learn how to give them the freeze period if having tulips is that important to you when you live in the wrong climate. Which is you dig them up in like october-november, clean them up, coat them in a fungicide, and store them in the fridge for at least 3mo before planting them back in the ground, and accept you are doing this every single year. And you will get flowers again bc it wasn't dead in the first place and you will end up saving money on tulips.
But this is exactly what I mean when I say it isnt hard, its a complexity barrier (note i am referring to the avg situation most avg ppl find themselves in w plants). A lot of ppl find that too much effort, too many steps. This is also what I mean when I say a factor to a plant's desired growth is manipulatable. This is also also what I mean when I say basic education abt plants is important. Stop beating yourself up for killing a plant. If you dont know shit abt plants, you dont actually know the factors that went into its death. Sometimes all you need is a small bit of info to make the right adjustment and bam no more problems. And what i mean abt priorities. Idgaf abt tulips so im Never doing that even tho I have the knowledge to do so. It doesnt matter to me and even if it did, it is no longer relevant to my current environment.
Every time I see someone act like having a plant is a lot of work I have to side eye them like. Stop buying notoriously high maintenance plants then. No, most plants give zero shits abt pH. I have over 100 plants in my tiny apartment and the grand total avg work I do per month is Just watering them once bc I choose low maintenance plants that can handle oh i forgot to check them for weeks to water (in fact, one time i didnt water my plants for 8mo. I still have those plants, theyre fine, bc i keep plants that live w those conditions naturally). Once a year, I go thru and clean up dead leaves and upgrade pots as needed but mine are so slow growing i rarely have to do that. Ive had 1 pest issue in 8yrs of my shelving system, no diseases. Im physically disabled, the most i put myself through is step ladders to water my plants on high shelves and moving decently sized plants in ceramic or concrete pots, sometimes weeding gravel on a really good day. Im not out here pruning trees with anything more involved than telescoping loppers even tho I have a good basis of training in that (I am not an arborist to be clear) bc it will hurt me and it isnt worth it.
Heres the thing. People get really frustrated and discouraged abt having plants bc they have no idea how to pick a plant to fit their lifestyle, circumstances, and space. In addition to having this idea in their head that theyre terrible at taking care of plants if they kill one. The former is easily solved w basic education abt how plants work and how to find accurate info and get help. The secret for the latter is that every single person who has plants no matter their skill level has a huge graveyard of plants behind them. Everyone has a type of plant they fucking suck at keeping alive too. Mine is ferns, esp maidenhair. Maidenhair will die if you let the soil dry out, therefore it is banned from my home. Everything i keep Requires drying out between waterings bc of my time blindness. Figure out what you suck at and dont buy plants that you are going to struggle to manage. Its that simple. Hell and you can even have different plants to help you keep track of shit. What I do is i keep a variety of plants ranging from cacti to tropical and I keep a plant that is very visually communicative abt when it needs water in my bathroom. When that one, in a place I am guaranteed to see it every single day, tells me it wants water by drooping, it reminds me to water all of my plants that I keep behind privacy screens as a measure to keep my pets out and tone down the intensity of the lights. Thus, a schedule is created that i can follow that isnt reliant on My memory and concept of time by using a natural visual cue.
Have issues w light indoors? Buy a fucking LED plant light. The investment is worth it and shit is way cheaper than it used to be. I had to pay $180 for a 4ft T5 8yrs ago and that doesnt include the replacement fluorescent bulbs. That was ONE of my SIX lights. Energy bill was crazy and they get stupid hot. That is not necessary anymore. I have a clamp style LED in my bathroom that I got for <$20 bc the overhead light in a windowless room wasnt adequate for the dracaena and my partner who has a normal schedule manages turning it off and on for me daily. I have 6x 4ft full spectrum high intensity LED poles mounted to steel shelving and daisy chained to each other that cost me a grand total of $150 and it is all hooked up to an outlet timer so i dont have to remember to turn them off and on every day bc i Will Not remember. The energy bill is much better. Mind you im growing dragonfruit n shit in a place it snows and is below 50 for 8mo out of the year. I have an agave. Numerous cacti including prickly pear and 2 succulent rotting flesh plants. Im not fucking w oh do I have a south facing window and can I keep my plants warm bc i moved w these specialized plants Knowing I care about them enough to manipulate my environment to keep them alive. This was an active choice i made, this was and is a big priority for me. You do not need to do this if it doesnt suit you.
Ppl are always so confused when they ask me plant care questions and I turn the conversation first to talking abt you. Your tastes, your lifestyle, your patterns. Im not going to tell you do xyz and expect you to magically have a routine if you have adhd ykwim. Im going to tell you what to do that will give you the most success and if you want something particular, im going to be very honest w you abt what youre getting into, physically and financially. I can educate you til we both die but thats not gonna fix executive dysfunction or disability or whatever your wall is. I love plants so much and I go out of my way to spread the love wherever I can and give people good options for getting into this, as a hobby or a job. The problem isnt that plants are hard, they can be incredibly complex and there is a difference, and I am more than happy to help you learn where your line is for the amount of complexity you want to handle. I LOVE teaching ppl abt plants but you dont have to know everything, just what is relevant. But also, youre gonna have to be ok w plants dying. Tis the reality of having plants. If you get really depressed bc you killed a plant, dont have plants or better yet, try propagating to get used to it. You will have losses and need to cull. You need to approach every death as information and a learning opportunity, whether thats how to do it better w the next one or simply not wasting your money on that kind of plant.
But pls dont act like all plants are impossible and a huge amount of labor just bc you only have the narrowest view of the options out there, often informed by a small selection at a home depot/grocery store or whatever and plantfluencer bullshit. There are over 350,000 plant species that we know of currently w massively different needs and growth and everything. No one knows everything abt plants, its fucking impossible for one person to know all of that, and thats the beauty of it. There's nothing wrong w struggling with plants, but you Can grow plants w little to no frustration if youre willing to learn and change your approach and make better choices abt your purchases (I say that bc the ppl im addressing are often not the ones doing propagation themselves) if the frustration is a problem for you. My point is there are solutions. Dont be scared and dont trick yourself into being daunted by an amount of labor you are not hard required to do. This is a science and an art and you can experiment!
Anyways I read one of my plant textbooks for like 2hrs today, I figured out my current updated hardiness and heat zones for planning plant shit (tho i must contend with like 5 microclimates), and i made a pitaya, mango, passion fruit smoothie w mango juice and cocoyo to drink while I get back to reading the people in the trees.
