rush hour traffic pisses me off. I spend all of of this time laying out arterials, collectors, and local roads, and then it dumps 10x the normal amount of traffic twice a day for simulation purposes. it throws up idiotic warnings saying "hey, did you know that your roads are backed up?" yeah, of course I do, you just dumped 1000 cars into a road that handles 100 cars most of the time. this can take hours to clear out. it's frustrating and I haven't found a way around it besides finding a mod that disables this retarded behavior entirely.

the gameplay loop... god. if you've spent your life playing simcity games, you are familiar with the R/C/I bars that tell you the demand for residential, commercial, and industrial zoning. they help give you a goal to work towards and sort of drive your gameplay. you zone some residential and watch the green bar go down and the yellow bar go up. bing bing wahoo. cities skylines 2 also has these bars, with a few extras. except this doesn't represent demand. except it sorta does. I've never been able to get a straight answer out of anyone as to what they're actually measuring. all I have been able to figure out is that "when the bar is full, your residential/commercial/industrial zones will build out." that doesn't actually mean you should be doing this - you need to look at the statistics of your city to figure out what you want to expand. if your unemployment is high, then consider zoning more industrial. if your child population is low, find more ways to attract families. build, check statistics, fix problems, and repeat. if you want to roleplay as an urban planner, I imagine this is a form of crack. for someone who actually enjoys city building GAMES (this is the keyword! I want to play a game!!!) then it's more like you're fighting and debugging the simulation rather than playing a game and enjoying yourself. the player-facing signals often do not identify the next good decision and much of the game becomes interpreting opaque systems rather than acting on clear goals.
