Hi hi!! I hope you don't mind that I'm going to assume this is for AFTG haha! Anyway, thank you for playing the Choose Violence ask game ^_^
The Character Everyone Gets Wrong
A surprising amount but I think this is because of how prevalent Fanon is in the AFTG Fandom, haha. Somehow Neil, despite the fact that he is our narrator - and I think this is because every time Neil does something that some readers don't like/approve of they refer to him as an "unreliable narrator" even though Neil was not at all written to be an unreliable narrator nor would he actually qualify to be one (having a limited perspective & thoughts, feelings, and interests do not actually qualify as being an unreliable narrator, that is just being a narrator).
Also Andrew. Somehow a lot of Fanon about Andrew is taken as Canonical fact despite no Canon evidence (the idea that Andrew was hooking up with random men outside of Roland at Eden's Twilight, that Andrew is actually a Big Secret Softie, etc.,). I think as well the rhetoric that Andrew is the "fakest idgaf" has also blinded some readers to the fact that not all of Andrew's apathy is fake. Yes, Andrew is not actually emotionless or soulless. However, he DOES genuinely struggle with experiencing feelings - the reason he goes onto the roof is because he wants to experience fear in order to experience literally ANY emotion. Part of his passive suicidality is the fact that Andrew finds life boring, dull and not worth living. Moreover a lot of the emotions bottles up aren't cute, fluffy emotions. They're grief, sadness, rage, shame, etc.,. for all the unprocessed trauma he has experienced throughout his life.
I find that in an effort to say Andrew is human/isn't a monster - because that is the truth - people are also rushing to remove the 'unsavoury' aspects of Andrew that caused characters in-universe to think of him as less than human/a monster. His apathy, his rage, his lack of remorse & his inability to feel guilt. Except when you remove those aspects of Andrew and say "look he is human" the impression you are giving is that you don't think people with those characteristics are human & in order for them to be such they must be "fixed" (even if we use the word "healed" to make it sound prettier).
11. Number of Fandom-related words you've filtered.
Okay listen. This is going to seem high HOWEVER it's b/c I have to have basically the same tag with all its spelling variations/spelling mistakes otherwise it'll slip past my filters a million times. And the answer is: 31.
14. That one thing you see in Fics all the time
Okay the one thing that I see in Fics all the time that annoys me are Fics that are tagged as post-TKM/canon-compliant and the writer has seemingly forgotten everything that happened at the end of TKM so the Fic is not actually at all canon-compliant.
For example, Aaron is somehow still sharing a dorm with Andrew, Neil, Kevin & Nicky... even though Neil and Aaron SWAPPED dorms. He never shares a dorm with Neil, y'all!! Aaron is sharing with Matt! Similarly, it's Neil's second year and... Nicky (and sometimes Aaron) are STILL sharing a dorm with Neil, Andrew & Kevin! It's literally said at the end of TKM that Nicky's gonna be moved in with Matt & Aaron to even out the dorms for next year.
Moreover, Nicky & Matt become closer when they become roommates, but that's never explored! They become friends, y'all! Nicky also experiences character growth throughout AFTG and is not flirting with Neil in TKM as he was in TFC, and yet he's often written as still saying very inappropriate things to Neil even though Nicky also knows that Neil is with his cousin - similarily, Nicky also now knows about Andrew being raped/his CSA, so he's probably not going to be making the same rape jokes he was making prior to knowing that information.
Or having all the Monsters still partying at Eden's every weekend/most weekends... Aaron is allowed to publicly date Katelyn, y'all. You think he's gonna wanna get wasted & go dancing without her?? Or never invite her - and Andrew can't protest her being there! Neil is literally RIGHT there. And the Upperclassmen are seemingly never invited ever again despite Halloween having gone well. I think there's this strong desire to stick the status-quo as portrayed in TFC, which makes post-TKM Fanfic at times feel regressive.
And also, having Andrew/Neil STILL referring to to each other as "nothing" or Neil wondering if he's important to Andrew. When Neil and everyone including Nicky, Aaron, etc., fully understand the implications of Andrew breaking his deal with Aaron so Aaron can be with Katelyn & Andrew can be with Neil. Andrew admits to Neil that it was for Neil as well when he says he "should be smarter than this." And then by the end of TKM - the literal last few pages - Andrew stops denying that they are nothing (as Neil wished!! Neil literally did not Canonically want them to continue to be nothing! He wanted Andrew to admit to what they were). Having Andrew/Neil continue refer to each other as nothing/denying their relationship gives the impression you either did not finish TKM or did not understand the last chapter. I think people confuse Andrew/Neil not using labels as not being in a relationship, when that is not true. Andrew/Neil do not deny their in a relationship (even to reporters in the future) nor does not saying "I love you" mean they aren't in love - Nora fully says Andrew/Neil are in love and their "I love you" is in stay, welcome home, etc.,. I think some of y'all get really confused by a relationship not fitting societal standards/being heteronormative that you convince yourselves it Must Not Be A Relationship when it 100% still is a relationship. Andrew/Neil acknowledge to each other and others they are in a relationship. There is no miscommunication between them, they fully understand what they mean to one another by the end of TKM.
