Police: *leading sex workers into a squad car to be taken to jail*
Sex work prohibitionist: “I called the police! You’re all free now! No more patriarchal violence! No need to thank me!”
Prohibitionist: “How does it feel to be free of your pimp?”
Sex worker: “I was an independent worker!”
Prohibitionist: “Yeah right, so how much did the porn industry pay you to say that, faker?”
Sex worker: “Who will care for my kids?”
Prohibitionist: “No worries, they’ll be placed with a nice Christian foster family who will teach them to hate and judge you as harshly as possible.”
Prohibitionist: “This is to protect you. It’s feminism. I’m a feminist.”
Former sex slave: Wait so I went to the police and I got arrest for being sold into sex work?
Prohibitionist: Yup! That way we can make sure people don’t get sold into sex slavery!
Former sex slave: But that just makes victims less likely to come forward?
Prohibitionist: pRoTeCt WoMeN
Former sex worker: I have been arrested and prosecuted and now have a criminal record which greatly reduces my ability to get a non-sex work related job.
Prohibitionist: Yep, but it was to help you get out of the sex work. Now you can get “real” jobs working for minimum wage or less. We did good. Why aren’t you thanking me?
Prohibitionist: We want to implement the Nordic Model: Sex work is not criminalized but those who pay for sex are.
Sex worker: So you mean I’m going to lose most of my customers except for those who are willing to commit a crime? Won’t that make my job more unsafe?
Prohibitionist: it’S FOR yOUr OWN gOOD

I wonder if work just.. got harder in the 2000s, comparatively.
So like... ok. I haven't researched this and I'm mostly thinking out loud, so forgive me.
I entered the working world in 2005. I had a few odd jobs for a few years and then finally just bit the bullet in 2009, got a job at a grocery storeas an inventory clerk. My job was to count surplus items in the backroom and update the counts. Additional responsibilities included helping stock the front end. I left that job in less than a year.
A friend of mine now works at the same chain, different location, same job title, in 2022. But where I shared that title with two other people, he's the only one with that job title. Additionally, there are less stockpersons, and he is often called out to the floor to help them, which impedes his primary job function. He is also expected to clean bathrooms and some other maintenance things that I cant imagine doing as an inventory clerk.
And I thought maybe it was just that his location is understaffed, but looking back on the past few years where I was expected to do everything (be the front end, the dispatcher, the manufacturer, the teacher, trainer, janitor, delivery driver, account handler... christ, how did I do all this?) I'm looking at the issue with fresh eyes.
I hear sometimes about the 'slim down,' where a lot of companies took on a trend of hiring less people than they need to cut down on the cost of labor, and I look at how fast a person can burn out at a job. And how many jobs are considered 'high pressure sales' when they dont need to be.
Like I'm looking at the possibility of starting a business and I'm looking at the jobs I've had that burned me out and why. And it's almost always been 'I was always juggling responsibilities because we needed more staff'.
Like it seemed like I was doing everything, but getting paid the same.
And I think about that backroom job, where occasionally i would have to help out the stockers on big days, but mostly my job was one function.
It's not like that anymore, is it?
So when I hear someone bemoan that 'no one wants to work anymore' I just think... y'know, work ain't what it used to be. When you're working the work of 3.5 people because someone at corporate decided it was right and good to hire less people than they need because it saves them 20$ per hour per store, but you still dint get your bonus because shrinks too high or they didnt make the amount of money they thought they would or you gave too many coupons ONCE. And it's like they're actively trying to chase people away, and then threaten you with automation but they do t make work attractive enough for people to show...
Work dont want no one anymore.

The one on the right, obviously.
I’ve spent my first time off in more than a year and a half alternating between coma-like sleeping and frantically assembling my fan cast for a Norse mythology movie, g’night.
hot take: bury your gays isn't just "any time a queer character dies" and acting like it IS is unnecessarily stifling to queer creators who don't want to write happy, fluffy stories where everyone lives

the best way to support libraries is to use libraries. go get a card, check something out. not a big reader? they got movies. they got games. yes, like botw and fallout and let’s go eevee. they also have cds that yes, we workers know you take home and rip to your computer. we also do it.
if you have a well funded library you might even have access to maker spaces that have 3D printers. or video/audio recording equipment. libraries aren’t these tomb silent homes for books any more. they’re community spaces. they’re full of life and things.
put a middle finger up at jeffrey bezos and support your local library
did i mention we have printing services that are significantly cheaper than anywhere else? printers are evil, let us handle them for you.
Library worker here and can confirm all of these! I’m at a small-to-medium library and we offer ALL of this:
- wifi hotspots that can be checked out for weeks so you can have internet on the go or at home
- CDs, DVDs, blurays including usually multiple copies of new stuff
- A tech lab with a 3d printer, computers for graphic design and game dev focus, VR headsets, and a soundbooth for recording
- Study rooms for solo or groups
- Printers, copiers, faxes, and scanners for just about anything you need taken care of.
- Including a new printer big enough to make giant posters, maps, and business-grade ads.
- A seed library, both floral and food-related.
- A computer lab programed to erase your data and reading history so you’re never at risk while visiting sites like domestic abuse hotlines
- Laptops pre-programmed with Adobe and Office software so you don’t have to buy them
- Monthly author visits
- Ebooks including comics on tons of various platforms
- Classes for those who want to learn how to or better their computer skills
- Art you can check out to hang on your wall for as long as it’s available, including the work of local artists who get paid for their art, especially if it gets popular and we want even more of their stuff.
- Monthly papers ranging from local newspapers to multi-national magazines on just about any topic you can imagine.
- We used to offer food and drink at a loss but You Know ©
- Notaries with extensive legal knowledge including renters rights, getting you in contact with immigration protection, and contacts with pro-bono lawyers.
- A connection with all the libraries in the state, so if we don’t have something, we can have it shipped to you within a matter of days.
- Books translated into multiple languages
- A donation bin for old books/DVDs/VHSes that often turn around and get sold for two or less dollars
- A food donation site for local food banks
- A “suggest a purchase” section on our site where you can support your favorite indie writers/musicians by suggesting their work if we don’t already have it
- We’re growing butterflies this year, and in prior years we hatched chickens! \o/
- An outreach program for the elderly and disabled who hand-deliver almost everything I’ve just mentioned
That’s a huge list and again I have to stress that I work at a library that’s not considered to be very large. And one of the biggest things we get rated by is not how many books we own but by how many people use all of those services I mentioned. They exist for YOU! Use them!
AND it’s free!
people either have the right to protest, or they dont. people have the right to control whats inside their own bodies, or they dont. people have the right to oppose and disrespect politicians, or they dont. people have the right to true and verifiable information or they dont. people have the right to be safe from cyber stalking/doxxing/threats or they dont.
you dont get to just decide what rights people "deserve" based on whether they have the right political opinions or belong to the right demographic. your values shouldnt change based on whether the person exercising their rights agrees with you personally or not.

I want people to stop attacking nonbinary people who describe their genders in abstract, flowery terms. And I want them to stop dismissing them as “just teenagers who don’t know any better”, too.
You know why? Because cis people do the same thing all the time and nobody bats an eye about it.
Manhood and womanhood are associated with symbols, colors, animals, astronomical objects, mythological figures, a whole list of things that have no inherent gendered properties, and that’s fine. (A lot of those symbols are stereotypical, but some binary people still embrace them, while others have come up with alternate symbols that better reflect what being a man or woman means to them.)
If men and women can describe their genders in abstract, symbolic, poetic terms, so can nonbinary people.

If you’re having a hard time, I can 100 percent tell you that depression, anxiety, and mental illnesses of all kinds are treatable, and it’s not your fault.
That little voice you keep hearing that tells you you’re worthless, you’re unworthy, that things are hopeless, ayhat everybody hates you, that you’re ugly, that you’re stupid, that you deserved the abuse, or that ever whatever it is. It’s not true. The Devil whispers lies in your ear to torture you. The Devil knows your weakness and tries to exploit it. Don’t believe the lies.
You weren’t put on this earth to feel bad all the time. You don’t deserve to feel depressed or hopeless. You also don’t have to face it alone.
Reach out and get help.
Reblog if you need this energy
