"I learned a lot from making this" is artist talk for "making this sucked ass and I'm not entirely happy with the result."
I'm just saying, if you're going to worldbuild magic being a "raw, primal force, akin to and interweaving with nature itself" you gotta explain to me why animals don't use it
I know the normal answer is "they just aren't smart enough for it" but idk I've seen enough media where a character uses a spell in a moment of brain-off panic ilI feel like animals could probably stumble into a spell or two like, accidentally
Also how funny would it be to see a completely normal regular bear cast magic missile outta nowhere
Also there is no way ravens wouldn't figure out spells, tbh
They're smart fuckin birds, I believe in them
Either through observing or just figuring shit out ravens could 100% learn how to cast spells I'm sure of it
Dogs can also cast Magic Missile but every time they do the projectile is shaped like a bone or a stick and they chase after it
group of wizards who ask this in-universe, and after extensive study learn to their surprise that animals are casting spells all the time, just that their magic is so fundamental as to be unrecognizable to humans. turns out the only reason acorns grow on trees is because squirrels keep wishing for them.

my favorite thing about navigating fanfiction is finding a really good one and being all “oh boy this was good, I hope they have more!” and literally every other story they’ve ever written was for like Miami Vice
the tag game on this post is so strong
#a lot of the time this happens because someone in their 40’s got into 1 new thing and threw a fic at it before resuming business as usual#like sorry gang they’re not a youth who’s weirdly into your mom’s shows they’re your mom who played genshin impact

We report: the clouds become ghostly presences as we are gone to the night. In the darkening of the sky, they slowly become invisible. We know there will come a moment when we only know them from the absence of the stars; only the void as a testimony of their existence.
Round 4 - 2022 (In America: An Anthology of Fashion / Gilded Glamour) - Match 8 of 13
Lily James (Versace), left
"A nude tulle illusion dress is covered entirely in strings of pearls in reference to their representation of royalty, decadence, and the gaining of new feminine freedoms during the Gilded Age. Each pearl is hand-embroidered and modernized in a metallic dusty blue coating. The design features asymmetric lines, a common design feature of the era, an open back with further pearl embellishments, and a keyhole cut-out neckline." (x)
vs. Dove Cameron (Iris van Herpen), right
"Cameron explained that since the Gilded Age “was all about using new technology and textiles to make grand fashion, grand design, and cutting-edge designs that no one had ever seen before, I think that Iris and I wanted to carry that same intention into tonight and have a modern and futuristic take on the Gilded Age.” She also pointed out that, for her, the theme “is all about excess and new cutting-edge exploratory design. It’s the celebration of the furthest reaches of fashion and grandiose, larger than life sort of images and shapes. I think the look that Iris and I worked on definitely embodies all of that and more.” And while the entire gown was stunning, Cameron said her favorite detail had to be “the clavicle leading up to the neck. It reminds me of a spine, and I love how intricate and detailed it is. It’s something I’ve never seen before and definitely makes me feel feminine, divine, and very much like myself.”" "The ‘Spiral Nebula’ gown ... is inspired by cosmic structures of spiral nebulas, spiraling out from their center." (x)(x)
Whose outfit was better?
Lily James
Dove Cameron

“It’s tempting to assume”: someone’s assumption is about to be criticized
“It’s comforting to assume”: someone’s assumption is going to be read for filth

17-year cicadas are crazy when you think about it. Like, they live underground for their entire life except the final few weeks where they emerge to the surface, grow wings, scream at the top of their lungs, mate, and die.
Imagine if at the end of every human's life they went up into outer space to have an orgy

Me and my dog post-apocalypse after we find a broken crate of canned peaches washed up on the beach
went to a new optometrist today wearing my squid facts ‘save our freaks’ shirt from @sarahmackattack that has a strawberry squid on it. and i wasn’t even thinking about it but the optometrist walked in and he was like ‘oh what does your shirt say’ so i showed him and he was like ‘oh that’s neat!’ and then i thought he might like to know about strawberry squid eyes since they have weird eyes and he is an optometrist and all. so i was like ‘yeah it’s actually a real kind of squid called a strawberry squid, their eyes are really cool because they have one big yellow-green one and one small blue one’ and he kind of gasped and went ‘oh my god that’s so interesting i wonder why they have that. do you know what their retina composition is like?’ and i watched as he minimized my chart on the computer and started looking up images of strawberry squid and then he googled ‘strawberry squid retina composition’ and he was like ‘sorry we’ll get to your eye exam in a moment i just really want to find out’ LMAO 10/10 optometrist experience will be returning
Hell yeah
