NEW VINCE STAPLES TINY DESK CONCERT THANK YOU 2026
deriding things as performative is anti third space
im sitting on a patio at my favorite cafe rn and im hand stitching them hem of a dress im working on. and i can see why someone would say im being performative by working on something like this in a public space. but frankly theres no element of that. i just want to work somewhere that isnt my apartment. i want to be in public, i wanna chat with strangers, i wanna see the world. it’s nice to hang out somewhere that isnt my home!
what i mean is when you say people are being performative you discourage them from doing shit they love in public. and thats no way to foster the world we want to see.

Sups lends a ear doodle
been trying to articulate to myself just how bad it is to remove the scheming and conniving parts of odysseus's character in that fuckass movie considering how integral it is to the fabric of his character. when odysseus finally gets back to ithaca, he immediately and effortlessly spins this elaborate lie about his identity to athena, who at this point is in disguise and obviously knows exactly who he is. after she removes the glamour she put over herself, she (to paraphrase) tells him "you love fiction so much that you cannot stop yourself from creating false stories even when you are on your homeland soil." like i'm so sorry but the entire story is built around how his quick wits, wry nature, lying, and masterful manipulation of speech keeps him from getting killed. but also, crucially, the way odysseus wields language borders on artistic. he praises the bards and poets he encounters, and adores how their words and spun song can move the audiences they're performed for, to the point of reducing him to helplessly weeping despite the pain they cause for him, too. language is so much more than just a survival tactic for him and is something that he reveres, loves, and indulges himself with from time to time. he uses heartening words to rouse his men to keep going, to convey the magnitudes of his experiences to the likes of the kingdoms he visits. if you remove these components from his character, you do not have odysseus from the odyssey anymore in a way that matters.

i kind of hate it when they cast the same 10 superstars who are in literally everything in a movie. celebrity-sickness
not every movie needs to be an ensemble cast of timothee chalamet, zendaya, tom holland, robert pattinson, and anya taylor-joy
