because, out of all the nicknames she could have picked for jean, did she purposely choose to call him paris, knowing that the parisians and the marseillais notoriously hate each other and have for generations had the biggest rivalry ever seen between any french cities and that calling a marseillais a parisian is kinda one of the worst insults ever for them?

long strings of insults are SO easy to build in french! all you have to do is take one swear word and connect it to another with ‘de’... and it can be UNLIMITED !! the longer it gets, the more pissed off you are! like, putain de saloperie de bordel de putain de merde d’enculé de sa mère = it literally means absolutely nothing, it’s just a big loud ‘FUCK’ lmao

when nora vaguely writes jean cursing, this is what is most likely coming out of his mouth lol probably just long combinations of both cursing words and actual insults i'm happy to provide a few insults that i think jean is 100% using on a daily basis 🤣 - the classic cursing words : putain(g) = fuck ; merde = shit ; bordel = fuck - casse-couilles = literally ‘testicles-breaker’ but meaning someone who is a pain in the ass - couillon = literally ‘testicle’ but meaning ‘moron’ (this one is very popular in marseille, they use it for everything) (i made a post about it here) - connard = asshole, jerk (this one french people use when they are really angry) - enculé = literally ‘fucked in the ass’ but meaning ‘fucker/motherfucker’ (another one you hear a lot in marseille) - va te faire foutre/va te faire enculer = ‘go fuck yourself’ - nique ta mère = ‘fuck your mother’ (meaning fuck you) - ta mère la pute = ‘your mother is a whore’ meaning ‘son of a bitch’ - fils de pute = ‘son of a bitch’ - salope = bitch - saloperie = my personal favorite insult from jean to neil, i also made a post to explain this word here

as for insults/curses specific to marseille/southern france, you have: - bonne mère ! = ‘good mother’ but meaning ‘jeez!’ or ‘oh my god!’ - boudiou ! = same ‘oh my god!’ - fada = a fool (the most used insult in marseille) - counas = an idiot++ - mouligas = a slacker - va fangoule = go fuck yourself those are the most well known. they sound so cute to me!

the 'ean' sound in jean is specific to french language, there is no way to describe it accurately in another language. it's not john, it's not jan, it's not zhan or zhahn... if you are not french you won't be able pronounce the sounds 'ean', 'an', 'en', etc properly and that's 100% okay. there are sounds that are so specific to a language you just can't say them if you're not a native (just like it's very hard for french people to properly pronounce the 'th' sound for example)

also, the way jean says his name is not the same as they do in parisian french. the main differences between the 'parisian' accent and the marseille accent are like this:
