Hello!
Two weeks ago, I posted a jerejean fanart to celebrate Brazil's victory against Scotland, and I received many likes and reblogs, as well as kind words. Thank you so much!
Among the hundreds of notifications, however, I noticed that some people commented that my fanart looked like it was made by artificial intelligence. I understand that lately many people have been using AI for that sort of thing, But I confess I was a little disappointed. I suspect it was because of the warm colors, or some small mistakes I overlooked, but anyway. I want to make it clear that I don't use any kind of AI for this, although I still need to learn many things about digital illustration.
Here's the timelapse for anyone who wants to check it out. Sorry if my process is a bit confusing, but I have a restless mind and I stopped several times along the way to do other things. I've been a little busy, so I haven't been able to create fan art for the Brazil vs. Japan game yet.
This fan art took a total of 9 hours to create and has 107 layers. No wonder I managed to publish it three days after the game. The standard timelapse ended up being about 10 minutes long, so I opted for the 30-second version 🫶
Well, as an artist who renders in semi-realistic styles, this isn't very believable, I'm sorry.
I looked through your previously posted art, the one from May that's *clearly* not generative ai because it shows your ACTUAL skill (which isn't even bad enough to pity your apparent need for ai. You could've been successful with honest art) and it's just simply impossible to suddenly get THAT GOOD in less than a month. You're telling me, suddenly, all your struggles with posture and lighting have vanished, and you're drawing (seemingly) flawless semi-realistic art?? Sorry, but that's bullshit.
You drew a sketch over the ai image and deleted it bit by bit. Non-artists may not notice—and they're not stupid to believe you since they don't know any better and what reason do they have to suggest u lied?—but I and my fellow artist friends can see it.
This is not what rendering looks like. Rendering semi-realistic takes a LOT of trial-and-error during the rendering process, ESPECIALLY if you're a beginner. Which you are. It reeks to the sky.
Just be honest about your ai use. Don't take canvas info (the brush strokes and time stamp) from a different art piece of yours. How about u show us your layers of this piece? PROVE that the canvas info is takes from this piece and not from your other, non-ai ones.
Pause the time lapse at 00:25, 00:26 and 00:27. You can actually see them erasing what they painted over Jeremy's hair and the plant.
As an artist, rendering doesn't just pop into existence like that. In an authentic time lapse, you can see each stroke the artist makes.
Nice try faking it, though.
This is the last time I’m going to talk about this. You’re assuming I posted the other fanart on my profile immediately after creating it, which obviously isn't what happened. The MattDan fanart was created and posted on Twitter last year, as was the Jean one. The Andreil fanart was also created and posted on Twitter back in March of this year. My account is NEW, so I just posted the fanart I enjoyed making the most, and I intended to keep posting here. And even so, I’m not a professional illustrator; I do this as a hobby. I’m under no obligation to create everything in the exact same style, because that’s not what I like doing. Honestly, I don’t understand what you gain by doing this. Like I said, just look at the next pieces I post and tell me if I’m not using the same damn brushes and canvas sizes.
Answering questions that I saw in the comments: the words are backwards because that's how they were in the reference, and I wanted to keep it that way. The stars "appear" because I traced them onto the reference image to maintain the same font, and then pasted them onto my fanart. After that, I just filled in the letters and stars with their respective colors and added the details. Jeremy's hair "appears out of nowhere" because I was going to do it (as I always do) strand by strand, but I was in a hurry to finish, so I duplicated the part I had already done and glued it back together, just adding the details. The plants didn't just appear out of nowhere, either; I created the dark areas first, selected the back wall section and filled it with the right color, then selected the specific parts I wanted to fill and colored them in. The lighter green details appear quickly because they are tiny dots in a sped-up video condensed into 30 seconds.
Some people have a misguided view of what art should be, but without a doubt, it shouldn't be stressful and it shouldn't be a sacrifice. I use shortcuts, resize, use paint buckets, crop, apply effects, textures, and change the opacity if necessary. I do it because I enjoy it, so it doesn't make sense to ask a robot to do it for me. I feel like I shouldn't even be here justifying myself, since I didn't do anything wrong, but it's just infuriating. Accusing me of faking a timelapse and the screenshots of the info? Man, that's crazy. It borders on racism that you simply can't accept that brasilian might have done this.
2017, omg, I was eleven years old 🥹
Spider-Man used to be one of my addictions 🕸️
I was rummaging through some things in my room and found this drawing I made for the 2018 World Cup. I should have taken better care of it 😭
