Welcome!
This blog is a curated post collection to help white people learn about racism, imperialism, activism, and their role in systems of oppression. This post contains the tag system so you can look at posts by subject, as well as a list of helpful resources and other blogs to follow. Any non-bold words that are underlined are links to recommended reading!
This blog is intended mainly for browsing, not just following. I will not reblog single posts more than once so please take time to look through the archived posts!
Tag System
Basics: This tag contains a handful of short(ish) posts to get you started (also read the links in the next few bullets!)
White Guilt: Posts about white guilt
White Fragility: Posts about white fragility
Privilege: Posts about privilege
Appropriation: Posts about cultural appropriation
White Culture: Posts about what white culture looks like (yes, white people do have culture!). Subset of the culture tag.
Culture: Very broad tag for posts about different cultures and cultural racism
Allyship: Posts about what being a good ally looks like (or doesn't look like!)
Antiracism: Posts about the action of unlearning racism and/or teaching others to do so (lots of overlap with allyship)
History: Posts with information about historical events or figures connected to systemic racism
Current events: Posts about instances of modern-day racism and imperialism
Antiblackness: Posts about racism against Black people
Indigenous: Broad tag for posts about indigenous cultures worldwide
Orientalism: Posts about racism against people of Asian descent
Imperialism: Posts about imperialism
Antisemitism: Posts about bigotry against Jews
Dogwhistles: Posts about words, phrases, and symbols with plausible deniability used by bigots to signal one another
Conspiracy theories: Posts about conspiracy theories that are rooted in bigotry (spoiler: it's most of them)
Environmentalism: Posts about bigotry in environmentalist movements/ideals
Community: Posts about how racism appears in communities and/or how to combat it
Relationships: Posts about how racism appears (or doesn't!) in interpersonal relationships
Experiences: Personal accounts/stories about experiencing racism
Gender: Posts about the intersection of racism and gender
Incarceration: Posts about the prison system in the US (basically, it's modern slavery)
Media: Posts about racism in media
Humor: Posts about jokes & memes as a vessel for both outright and subtle bigotry (and when they're not)
Activism: Posts about activism
Recommended media: Things to watch or read!
Not every tag has a lot of posts in it (yet), many posts are cross-tagged, and posts may also be tagged with additional relevant terms.
Please be aware: your comfort is not a priority here. Due to the subject matter of this blog, some posts may mention triggering topics. Any posts that describe these actions with any detail will be trigger tagged, but I will not be tagging for keyword mentions (e.g. "women of color are often sexually assaulted"). Nobody is ever obligated to read a detailed account of something horrible, but if you're here to learn about racism you need to be willing to hear that horrible things happen. If you cannot tolerate thinking about these things at all you can use tumblr's content filtering feature for keywords, but please acknowledge that your ability to avoid this kind of information is a form of white privilege.

In general, try to follow as many POC on social media as you can. Do not comment on posts that are not meant for you, but make a habit of filling your feed with posts by people in other demographics and cultures. Likewise, make a habit of deliberately seeking out media created by POC. Doing these things will allow you to learn new things without having to ask people, and to unlearn the gut reaction to see white people as "default".
It should go without saying but this is tumblr, so: me (the blog owner) reblogging a post or recommending a blog is not the same as me endorsing all opinions and content posted by that blog. The content I recommend here is intended to make you think and (hopefully) grow as a person, and reading and understanding differing opinions is part of that!
Remember, you are still your own person and you should think for yourself! Do not just accept everything others tell you as fact unless they are referring to their own lived experiences– even if they are telling you something is racist, you still need to understand why it's racist. If you disagree with anything on this blog or any of the linked resources, then you should do your own research to find out whether your disagreement comes from a place of ignorance or internalized prejudice. If it doesn't, then it's just something you disagree with that particular person about. People in other demographics are not a monolith and you will not agree with everyone!

Announcing Fanfiction.lol !
hey all! i've built a new ao3 fork called fanfiction.lol 🤙🏽 key differences:
🚫 no invite queue: sign up and start posting immediately. no waiting, no velvet rope.
🏳️🌈 expanded content warnings: added ableism, homophobia/transphobia, racism, rpf and more. plus relationship tags for aro/ace spectrum, qpr, non-binary/genderqueer focus, poly/ensemble, and more.
🏷️ all tags are canonical: everything you tag goes into the searchable record. no volunteer wrangling bottleneck.
💜 fandom-agnostic moderation: i care about the writing, not fandom politics or discourse. write whatever you want, tag it honestly.
it's a small personal project but fan communities deserve independent infrastructure.
if you enjoy fandom, i'd love for you to sign up and poke around. tell me what breaks. the source code is at source.tube/brennan/fanfiction.lol.
find me at brennan.day/accounts or email [email protected].
write whatever the hell you want! 💜
More Information
Hi, I wanted to add some more info about fanfic.lol based on some replies. I was trying to keep the original post short and have done write-ups elsewhere but I'll reiterate here.
The admin/webmaster: I'm Brennan! I'm a Queer Red River Métis writer and webdev and huge advocate for the IndieWeb. You can get to know to me on my site, brennan.day
I made this for fun, and it's running using a homelab server in my basement. I don't make money or anything else. I'm just doing it for the love of ball.
fanfic.lol is meant to be a small, independent alternative for fanfic and fandom that prioritizes joy and fun. No aims at trying to replace AO3!
I am anti-genAI and so is the site. You can read more about my stance on AI here.
Archive warnings, like everything else, are under construction! I do have to adhere to the laws of my country (Canada). Please be patient.
I am pushing straight to production, which is to say the entire site could explode at anytime, so please do not use it as the only place you put things! :)
I forsee only a handful of people using this site, it def isn't for everyone. If you don't like it that's okay! Whether you want to give me input or just ignore it entirely.
I did a longer write-up here. Thank you everyone for the kind, warm reception of my silly little project. <3
I love the longer write-up. It gives me a much better sense of where you're coming from and why people should trust you—or which users would be a good fit.
I was there for the start of AO3, and we really did think we were going to usher in the next age of archives a la eFiction. It took too long for AO3's code to be in that kind of shape and the internet changed radically around us. We did not mean to create a behemoth. We just wanted venture capital bros to stop disrespecting us.
As a side note, all the comments you're getting like "There already is a fanfiction website. Wtf" are exactly what people said about AO3/OTW in 2007. There was a ton of bitching about us stealing FFN's idea. (Never mind that there were older archives.) There were frequent complaints about how there was already "an archive" and we didn't need another. Most of that discussion got deleted when FFN decided to nuke all of its inactive social spaces one Thanksgiving weekend while nobody was around to object or save their data. But I was there and I remember it and it sounded exactly like these comments now.
The oldschool core of AO3 was into the age of archives. We liked there being lots of different little spaces run by different fans. It's nice to see that energy floating around in 2026. Go indieweb!
I wish you a hundred invested users who want to form a community and nobody else.

Air to air combat is the easiest form of warfare to argue that both parties consent to. Dogfighting is basically kink and it should turn you on at least a little.
"yeah this is a totally platonic rivalry" you are literally doing this
This honestly does it all such little justice. You need to know your opponents airframe intimately- how it handles, turns, how much it weights and how it pulls against the air. How to dance with her body elegantly, and all for just a brief moment under the sights. The strain of your body as you pull the stick, the strain of the engines as they try to give all the force you need. All for a glimpse. The blood rushing from your head as you push forward, the fight for elevation, dominance, potential energy. Position is gained slowly and lost quickly. Eagerness can find you vulnerable, under the eye of your enemy. And all they need too, just a brief glimpse. Just one moment under her sights till you’re undone, penetrated, bleeding oil and smoke and shuddering.
Aircraft Mechanic (angry): Hey! You're trying to fuck my wife!
Literary criticism terms I use on this blog despite making them up myself, much to the chagrin of anyone who does not have my back catalog memorized:
are we the baddies: SFF subgenre focused on agents of an imperial power realizing that and grappling with what to do next, in contrast to stories focusing on the scrappy rebels resisting said imperial power
I could fix him (the empire): SFF subgenre where the colonized subject being nice and/or sexy enough Ends Colonialism, frequently tied to the John President of Racism problem
librarian bait: books centered on the transformative life-changing power of books and libraries, cousin to books focused on the transformative life-changing power of storytelling and narrative in general
college brochure fiction: stories where the protagonist has an artfully arranged group of diverse friends who are as flat as paper and whose cultural backgrounds never come up meaningfully
the Dave Strider: character the fandom fixates on to the detriment of everything else, until the weight of that attention warps fanon and sometimes even canon around them. almost always male. it's happening to Gurathin from Murderbot right now
#OP tell us more about the John President of Racism problem!
It hails from an immortal tumblr post by penultimate-step, except not immortal apparently because I get 'not found' when I try to go back to the original. So here's the text:
It's always disappointing when a series makes a big deal about societal and structural problems in it's setting, making readers think it has interesting things to say about the subject, only to then resolve the problems by fighting The CEO of Racism, John Racist, so that all of society's problems would then get better because they promoted a new CEO.
In light of recent events, I have begun submitting bug reports when I see mature content labels applied inappropriately to posts, especially if an appeal has been rejected.
Extremely good idea - how are you doing it? Through the contact us option?
Yeah it’s one of the options on the Contact Support form:
for what it's worth: after a few months of submitting help tickets as 'feedback' when i saw a post inappropriately flagged as mature, i tried following this suggestion instead. today i got my first-ever response from tumblr support on this issue, letting me know that a post i'd submitted a ticket before has had its mature content flag removed.
Hey it worked! Maybe if enough of us make a stink they’ll fix the fucking system.
