idk if this would work but if I were to adapt the Homeric epics to screen in a miniseries or something I think that having background characters saying direct lines from the poem to the audience sometimes would be an interesting way to bring context to certain scenes and work as a Greek chorus kind of thing because like you’re adapting the contents of a song into a visual medium essentially and so incorporating elements of another visual medium (theatre) could help with some of the lack of interiority you get in a visual medium

I also can’t get out of my head the idea of a visual representation of the Iliad starting with a bunch of soldiers screaming “Rage!” in unison before a bunch of them take turns telling what’s going to happen as the main characters are getting ready for battle.

Work is pretty chill and I’m reading some reports from various faculty focus groups. One group focused on mitigating burnout and automating administrative tasks with AI programs. And I’m thinking, administrative tasks are at least 50% of my job. So faculty admits that administrative tasks cause burnout. Hmmmm. Anyhow, amusing.

Look, it's simple. If a person has to actively work to make money, they're not "the rich" and they're not the problem. A surgeon making $200k a year still stops making money if they stop showing up to do surgery, because they're still selling their labor. The radical discrepancies in how we value different skills are certainly a problem, but the guy who makes money when he doesn't even get out of bed is the one making money on the value of other people's labor.
