Together - an Endgame Alternative
This is an alternate ending that could’ve happened during the Snap Scene. This is just the beginning of the whole fic, if you happen to enjoy it please let me know :)
This was it. The final battle. Everyone was weak, near defeated and taken apart. Steve stood on his last battlefield, they all did. But somewhere, inside of Tony was a little light of hope. They all stared at him, waiting for the inevitable. Tony faced Thanos, sweat and blood smeared across his face, kneeling with his legs behind him in front of Thanos -
He looked at Pepper, I love you
He looked at Steve, it wasn’t his fault
His eyes welled up with tears, it couldn’t end like this of all the ways. But he had to do it. He had to make the final sacrifice and save them. Tony started to form his words when Peter ran to him, Peter swallowed his cry and grabbed Tony’s hand.
“I wanted to be like you.” Tony was startled at what he said, he looked at Peter and confidence shone through them. Thanos was getting impatient, but confused at the sudden event. Soon, Peter was joined by Steve who looked at Tony with eyes full of hope. “Whatever it takes” He was surprised he admitted, but now there was something inside him that brought him up. He felt a push and saw Rhodey joining hands with Steve, soon everybody was standing around Tony, protecting each other from the force that could’ve torn them apart. One last time, he smiled at Pepper. She looked at Tony and whispered a quiet 'thank you'
Peter Quill lifted his helmet and for once, felt the intimidatory environment.
"We'll do it together, man."
Nebula joined and soon did Gamora, sisters finally together but not for the reasons they hoped. Mantis and Wanda too, everybody that Tony was surrounded by held a thank you in their chests - waiting for what was about to come.
Everybody faced him with a concern and hoping heart, waiting to see the result. And at once, his fingers came together, his sweat falling across his shed forehead and finally - it happened. A fierce energy surged through Peter’s body, then Steve's and Peppers be everybody who paid their respects.
Their eyes clenched closed, teeth clashing towards each other and a bone gripping hold of each other's hands. The feeling was unexplainable, something that filled each and everyone's body with power, then soon drained them of it. Every nerve of their body felt it, every strand of hair from tip to bottom was laced with energy. More than everything they just wanted this to be over.
Everything was quiet for the split second that they stood still. Everything was quiet. No wind, no breaths, just the quiet suspense surrounding the worn-out bodies. And then a thump.
Peter was the first to notice what happened, "Mr.Stark?"
Tony had fallen from where he was kneeling and seemed tired. He could rest now, now that he was at peace from his past. Inside, he felt satisfied. Satisfied with the demons of his past - he could let Pepper and Morgan have a life knowing he gave it to them. But he would miss them so much. Together, they protected each other and together the evil force was defeated.
There was only one more thing to be left to be checked, whether Tony was still ok. It was on everyone’s mind.
Once everybody's shock was over, they rushed to where Tony had fallen from the energy surge. Through the silence, Pepper was the first one to run to his side. The heavy breathes from Tony were concerning, but when Pepper was there next to Tony, she had helped him to lean against a meteorite that exploded in half. When the team saw he was in a slightly more comfortable position, they surrounded him with hopes of a surviving chance for him. But what say did Tony have in any of this? You're not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you. Isn’t that what he said? The Captain America, but look - now here he was, panting through what could be his last breath. He looked up and Pepper was kneeling by him.
“Tony? Tony, you’re going to be alright.” She tried to keep a steady voice, but Tony could tell by the shaking of her voice that soon tears would come out of her. Although he was too tired to even raise his eyelids, he managed to lift a hand to wipe the tears leaking out of her eyes. And it was painful for Tony to see her like this.
All he could do at the moment was to embrace her and let the torrent of her tears fall to her lips. He could feel her clench his chest, not knowing whether to be mad or to give up hope altogether. He could hear Peter silently screaming, suffocating with each breath he took holding onto his pride. Peter had almost saved Tony’s life, by almost giving him a purpose. Tony could almost blame himself for not trying. But how could he? He didn’t really have a choice. The memories came back to Tony - of what he could’ve kept. Of course, Steve rushed to him and knew that nobody deserves anything of what had happened. But of course, it was just fate. Fate - just another word for a future that you are uncertain of.

“Fate, remember to use it in your writing! And the essays’ due next Friday.” The bell rang and interrupted the teacher’s announcement. “Ok, everyone! Out, out. I’ll see you next Monday!” Mr. Harrington got everyone out of his classroom before making a final announcement. “Peter, come here please!”
“Ooh! Peter Parker, finally got into some trouble!” Flash retorted, looking at Peter. Luckily Mr.Harrington shoo-ed him out.
Peter Parker got up from his seat, which thanks to his clumsiness took him quite a while. After Peter finally made his way to the front of the room where the teachers’ desk was, Mr. Harrington reached into a paper folder and pulled out a wrinkled and coffee-stained paper. In faded pencil 'Peter Parker' was scribbled across the top....
