I think the main reason A and C's love story has blown off the lid from my puny mortal human imagination when I first read/watched it - they are these two immortal beings who met at the beginning of the Universe, fell in love with the world, and fell in love with each other. I mean...how amazing would it be to observe/experience the entire history of the Universe with your best friend ?
The "final chapter" destroys all of that.
Oh sure, I can believe that Asanthony meet each other in other lives/reincarnations on Earth. But that is no different from believing that my husband is my soulmate, and we were together in our past lives. The problem is that neither of us have memories of that!
The special thing about A and C's relationship is that they DO remember all of it, and it is a cornerstone of their bond.

I considered just saying how badly it is written x 13 but... Happy 1 month anniversary!
In no particular order:
Crowley is an asshole
2. Aziraphale is barely the love interest, the wife now, who went to work and 'abandoned' the poor husband
3. Storylines go nowhere
4. Everyone punches Aziraphale for no reason
5. Metatron is too complicated to deal with so he gets erased for no reason
6. Jesus is barely a decoration on the Christmas tree
7. Michael finally snaps and I can't even blame them, but we see no real reason why (as they don't target Aziraphale specifically - why?)
8. Angels and demons now can't change - apart from one special boy
9. Humans get absolutely no say in a story about humanity
10. Free will gets brought up and decimated, treating viewers as stupid
11. Aziraphale and Crowley's relationship gets retconned. Actually all relationships do. Including that of the audience with the story. Everything is angry and lifeless for no reason.
12. Muriel deserved better.
13. God wins their stupid ineffable game. Hurrah!
This is not a nice and accurate list. It's not even a list at all. I am just horribly sleep deprived and so sad that I can't even be happy for Aziraphale and Crowley.
at this (low) point i would happily accept A and C being human, IF they could just keep their memories.
I'll never understand how a fan of the book/show can be ok with asanthony, knowing that "asa" has NO memory of crowley saving his books in 1941? knowing that "anthony" has NO memory of being impressed with aziraphale when he lied to Gabriel for Job and Sitis? every flashback that is so precious to us as a fandom...they don't remember any of it.

Ah shit I never saw David's exact wording until now 😫 just seeing the first post I figured maybe they didn't end up having a fancy wedding at the end or something, nothing drastic like idk asking for death while aiding in genocide! ffs. Clearly he knew we were fucked 😭

Season 1- this is it, there is no more material.
Season 2- actually there is a lot more super special secret material that i plotted out with my bestie Terry. Only I know how he wanted it to end. And this season is going to be just "soft and romantic", nothing stressful at all.
Season 3- They will have their happy ending and south downs cottage! (rubs his hands together evilly and mutters "Monkey paw cottage...no one deserves true happiness because I'm a nihilist who doesn't believe in healthy relationships. Since I'm never happy, that must mean true happiness doesn't exist.)
So at the end of the finale Aziraphale gives a whole speech on how amazing Crowley was as an angel, yet...apparently does NOT recognize him in the first scene of the movie? #badwriting?

So just to recap: after MULTIPLE teasers emphasizing the romantic arc of Aziraphale and Crowley and a summary by Muriel showing The Kiss (tm), as well as Prime posting kissing art between the Ineffables, we got:

There are two things I want to emphasize. 1) They KNEW what we wanted, because that's evident in how they advertised the show. 2) Not giving us ANY of it HAS to be intentional. They had to actually work to not allow the Aziraphale and Crowley arc to resolve satisfactorily. It would have been the most natural thing in the world, and it was actively prevented from happening.
yep. none of that. i so remember amazon prime account sharing the fan art thing and ending on a kiss between them. it made me so happy at the time. i don't know why they had to tease us like that. oh but its okay, asa and anthony had many kisses over their life time , im sure. (barf)

I don't understand why this video is not going crazy viral in the fandom. David's ACTUAL thoughts about the ending. It should have like 10K shares by now. It validates everything 50% of us has been saying.
I've realized that I'm having a similar reaction to the GO finale as I am to the trump presidency (I live in Oregon)... This feeling of being completely out of control, of being betrayed. Having one's fears literally become reality. Being promised one thing, and getting the complete opposite. Being gaslit about being upset about that fact. Worrying that very important things will be taken away or destroyed and having that fear actually come true...
And when we question the "powers that be" about these terrible decisions and express how they've impacted us- we are told we are ungrateful, selfish, and "do not understand" the greater purpose. Being literally mocked for our pain. (I'm referring to that writer on X who responded to a fan's question by saying that if he wasn't so busy at his niece's fancy wedding, he would have time to make up some answer).
The "rescued 90" was for the fandom, they said. We should be so grateful to Amazon and BBC that they "uncancelled" it, so that *we* can get closure. Repeatedly promised a happy ending, nightingales, and south downs.
Instead they effectively killed the characters for no good reason. Yes, to me the real and authentic A and C are gone forever according to that script, because people who have their memories erased CANNOT have the same personality after the erasure. That's why Alzheimer's and dementia are a big deal. People who suffer with these conditions become different; in the end stages they are a shell of their previous selves. People are NOT THE SAME without their memories!!! Especially 6000 years worth of memories...

Finding out about what David Tennant said about Crowley has done some irreversibale damage oh my god.
Yes, David said this at a fan meeting. Man he read the finale to filth with only like, four sentences.
AND HE'S RIGHT OF COURSE !! Crowley's goal has always been deeply intimate, he just wanted to enjoy the simple pleasures that Earth has to offer alongside Aziraphale.
I cannot even imagine David's frustration after putting so much passion and care into understanding Crowley, only for his ending to be the antithesis of what he stands for.
Of course I cannot persume how Michael Sheen feels about the ending, but given how deeply he seems to understand Aziraphale and his relationship with Crowley, I find it difficult not to wonder whether he had similar thoughts.
If we as fans feel disappointed with the ending after following these characters for years, imagine what it must be like for the actors who dedicated a significant portion of their lives to bringing them to life. They spent years thinking about who Crowley and Aziraphale are, what they want, how they grow, and they seemed to really enjoy to watch how their relationship in the show resonates with so many people.
And then there are the dedicated artists who worked tirelessly to bring Good Omens to life behind the scenes. The writers, designers, costumers, makeup artists, set builders, editors, composers, visual effects artists, and countless others who poured their creativity into this world because they believed in the story they were helping tell.
Their work helped create something that touched millions of people, inspired countless fanworks, and gave audiences a relationship that felt deeply meaningful.
Which is why I'm sure many of the people involved in this project ended up asking themselves:
What do you mean that a story about two people choosing each other, choosing Earth, and choosing humanity over the systems that sought to control them ultimately concludes that the world they spent six thousand years protecting is not worth saving?
This story seemed to celebrate the idea that love matters. That the small things matter. That an afternoon at a bookshop, a shared meal, a favorite song or a life built together could be more important than any grand cosmic plan.
it's heartbreaking to know that the ending affected some of the very people who helped bring this world to life. The actors, artists, and crew members who spent years nurturing these characters, thinking deeply about who they were and what they stood for.
And well...this hurts us too.
It's hard not to feel a sense of sadness that the ending has left such a significant portion of the fandom grieving what could have been rather than celebrating what was.
I want to thank the creatives who did care about the story Good Omens was meant to tell. To Michael and David, who poured so much love, thought, and humanity into their characters getting to the point that Crowley and Aziraphale felt real to millions of people.
Most importantly, to the late Terry Pratchett, thank you for helping create a story that celebrated humanity. Thank you for giving us characters who questioned authority and found something worth protecting in an imperfect world.
And of course, to the Good Omen's fandom who just like Aziraphale and Crowley, questioned the message they were given and chose love over cynicism. Thank you for your art, your discussions, the fanfictions, and the community you built around these characters.
Long after the final credits roll, it is your stories and shared love for these characters that ensure they continue to exist in people's hearts.
We can't let them take away our joy and connection to these characters. The ending may belong to the creators, but the comfort and meaning we found in Good Omens belongs to us.
No finale can erase the years we spent laughing with these characters, crying with them, growing alongside them, and finding pieces of ourselves in their story.
So let's keep creating !! Let's keep sharing our art, our stories, and our interpretations. Let's keep celebrating the parts of this world that meant something to us.
After all, if Crowley and Aziraphale taught us anything, it's that sometimes the most meaningful thing you can do is choose love anyway.
The nightingale still sings in Berkeley Square. And as long as we keep choosing love, I think it always will.
I was praying to God/Universe to help find something, somewhere that will make me feel somehow a little better. And the universe answered.
