-horrible at murder mystery on roblox. Constantly gets killed because he's either running around with the knife out, or follows people for safety but just comes off as though he's chasing them to kill them

-he creates outfits on his roblox avatar to test them before he wears them irl

-REALLY wants a black cat (would probably name it some bad version of Henry's name) (Hery Wubter..)

-he has an ungodly amount of 0.5 photos of the class. Mostly Francis because be hates them

-loves reposting sad videos in hopes someone will ask him what's wrong (nothing)

-takes photos of the class (mostly Henry and Richard) and puts filters on them

-suprisingly good at differentiating real and ai

-loves those reddit stories with minecraft parkour in the background

-his extensive time on adopt me makes him VERY good at typing quickly and with no typos because of his constant trading server appearances

This made me think of another hc tho:

Richard and Charles are surprisingly photogenic, but yk how I was talking abt Richard having cute puppy/doe eyes?

Having violent urges is important to his character, he has them consistently and to a point that it does affect his relationships with the other characters. But it’s also important that to maintain his role as a passive character within the narrative, he never acts on them.

I see it like this - some people who have endured abuse, can feel satisfaction reliving them. An example of this, is through kinks! (Not that im saying Richard’s thoughts are sexual for him lol).

What I mean to say is that Richard imaging hurting other people, is his way of coping with his trauma and processing his emotion around that.

It could even be an attempt to see the PoV of his parents, and understand why they did those things to him. What about being so cruel to Richard was so satisfying for them? Maybe he thinks that if he was the abuser in his imagination, he might be able to understand. Especially since throughout the novel, he makes excuses for them.

In a word where Richard is so out of control of his environment, and how others treat him, he finds a way to regain control and release his emotions through these split second fantasies in a controlled, private environment. His mind.

And that’s what they are - fantasies. But I’m not sure if I would even call them that, considering he, from what I remember, is disturbed by them.

I hate how people will constantly mischaracterise him to justify their disliking of him, or love for other characters. He's a bad person ! It's apart of his character ! But he is not the evil sociopathic bastard people tend to make him out to be ! I'm not sure what else I could add right now as it's already been said, but I find it so annoying that people constantly undermine the fact that he is simply a product of the neglectful, abusive, and controlling environment he grew up in and faced for 19 years of his life leading up to everything that went down during his year with the Greek freaks. And he was also quite clearly mentally unwell. I mean, he helped kill a guy, was living in the conditions mentioned just before for all of his lifetime, was an active drug addict, went through psychosis, nearly died (!!!), and was genuinely going insane. Of course he is going to be the way he is.

I really don’t get why ppl hate Richard as much as they do! Alot of ppl twist his character into something he’s not.

But anyway, your statement made me realise that Richard has an explanation (not at all an excuse, but I digress) for his behaviour. HE WAS ABUSED!!!!

He was literally physically, emotionally and verbally abused and neglected by his parents. (And I hate to say it, but that’s all the abuse we know about. We likely don’t even know the half of it). And then he comes to Hampden where he is FINALLY free, and he faces even more abuse with a heavy splash of manipulation. That is his explanation for being a bad person.

As for the others, it’s implied that Henry was neglected by his emotionally unavailable parents, which can explain how he is. That’s also an explanation for how he is.

Ofc, these are not excuses for Henry and Richard’s actions, but it’s definitely an explanation as to why they act in the ways they do.

However, that leads me on to say that the other characters have no explanation for their cruelty IN REGARD to the murder of Bunny (I think it’s safe to say anything the characters do after the murder is somewhat explainable considering murdering ur friend is pretty traumatising but what would I know). What the other characters do (after Bunny’s murder) is a reaction to committing the murder, what Henry and Richard do is a reaction to childhood trauma PLUS the murder.

ESPECIALLY Richard since he was literally living in hell for his childhood. You would think that would make him the most sympathetic character but ig not.

Does anyone get what I’m saying?
