Due to troubles I've been having with my current housing situation, I am setting up this contribution to raise money to move from AZ to MN. (I have autism and various mental and physical health issues. I had a housing voucher, but unfortunately, I have been experiencing a situation where the company paying most of my rent is not actually paying the leasing company that's running the apartment complex. All year. It has been an ongoing thing since roughly October 2025. There are two months where the ledger shows they did not pay the new leasing company.) I do not have a support network in AZ and am moving to MN, where I will be closer to a friend group/support group. (Also, as far as I can tell, the disability services in MN seem to be superior to those in AZ.)

Transportation: 3,000 (I do not know how much plane tickets cost, but I'm told this is not inaccurate.) Motel:(38 days) 1,672 (I do not have anywhere to crash when I get to my destination in MN so I will need to have a motel stay. I picked what is hopefully the cheapest one, though I haven't booked rooms yet as I won't be moving until November.) Winter Clothes: 2,000 (I have lived in AZ for a very long time, and I need winter clothes, and my chihuahua need a jacket and boots) Food: 2,000 (I am probably low-balling this--it's food for both me and my dog.) Packing Material/Boxes: 250 (I think this is what I ended up paying last time I moved) PODS: (did not do a price quote I'm just assuming it's gonna be hella expensive.) 3000 Incredibly specific amount: 1288 (My housing voucher company that failed to pay the rent for two months, and are refusing to acknowledge the debt. And not replying to my calls or emaills. I would like to get this paid off somehow.) More General "oh shit disaster" reasons: 2000 (any expenses that might come up during the move that I didn't anticipate, like over the counter meds, or bike repair.)

My goal is 15,280, with a move out date somewhere near the end or November, but hopefully not too close to the holiday rush.

if you’re curious, some of the telltale signs in the message itself is it’s intentionally vague and gives off a sense of urgency to draw you in and make you more likely to engage and less likely to think about what you’re being sent [also notable that they encourage YOU to dm THEM as a dm would be easier to ignore but this whole weirdness kinda stokes your curiosity]. The accounts themselves - or at least all the accounts that have sent *me* this - always only have reblogs from one date and literally nothing else, like these scam bots have learned to put a *few* posts to make you think they’re legit [and probably because they don’t expect anyone to try to scroll all the way through] but the post backlog never really goes further back than that one date which is unlikely for a real tumblr user’s account

I am hoping to collect several thousand such posts, so that I have a decent sized dataset. I do not care what the post is about; if it's labeled as "mature content", I want to add it to my dataset.

Namaygoosisagagun First Nation/Collins has burned to the ground. The entire community is nothing but ashes after being quickly consumed by wildfires. They did not have any support from emergency services, and no one offered aid. The community saved themselves by escaping into boats because no one came.

Mishkeegogamang and Cat Lake have lost power. Families are ending up in shelters with nothing. Armstrong, Lac La Croix, Whitesand, Gull Bay, Lac des Mille Lacs are currently in the fires path and all members are being evacuated.

All this loss, all this devastation, and it was entirely preventable.

After steadily underfunding wildland firefighting and purposefully excluding Indigenous wildland firefighters and Indigenous wildfire organizations from wildfire operations, firefighter training, decisionmaking, and resource exchanges, in 2025, Doug Ford slashed the forest firefighting budget.

It's hard to ignore his decision to cut funding and leave us out of adequate fire training (even though we've lived with forest fires for thousands of years—far longer than settlers have been in Canada—and made sure fires like the ones we're all seeing today were prevented through kinisitotēn) when, despite making up less than 5% of the population, we account for 42% percent of all wildfire evacuations in Canada.

And when we are successfully evacuated, we face discrimination and racism—like Kashechewan—because it's always been easier to blame us than it is to blame the true culprit: denialism, corportate greed, and colonization.

The people of Collins and every other impacted community deserve better.

Right now, the AFN is currently accepting donations to help Collins First Nation. If you're able to, please consider donating.

ONWA (Ontario Native Women's Association) is another great place to donate to. They have outreach vans going to motels and inns and offering food, water, resources, and cultural support to those impacted by the wildfires.

Other places to consider donating to are Mikinakoos Emergency Fund, Red Cross, True North Aid, Indigenous Climate Action. You can also send donations directly to Whitesand First Nation via e-transfer ([email protected]) and they request that you add your full name in the e-transfer comment section to receive a tax receipt.

The pillow-shaped object here used to be the phone’s battery. It’s not a battery anymore. Now it’s a balloon full of corrosive, pyrophoric chemicals and hydrogen gas and it’s one puncture away from burning your house down. I am 100% serious. You should be scared to touch it.

But you gotta touch it, because you gotta get it out of your house before the pressure builds up to the point where the balloon pops. This isn’t going to happen soon – there is no need to panic – but it will happen eventually.

And, indeed, it doesn’t go in the ordinary trash. You put this in the ordinary trash and you’re gonna set the garbage truck on fire. Don’t do that to the garbage collectors, their job is hard enough already.

The first thing you need to do is get a fireproof container. The most common household item that qualifies as a fireproof container is a cast-iron cookpot with a cast-iron lid – often sold as a “Dutch oven.” Any other cooking container that’s unreactive, has a very high melting point, and has a lid made of the same materials will also work: enameled or stainless steel, Pyrex with glass lid, etc.

However: Do not use a pot with a PTFE-based non-stick coating. If the battery does explode, the fire will probably be hot enough to degrade a PTFE coating, producing toxic smoke. (Not that you should breathe the smoke from the battery fire either, but PTFE breakdown products are worse.) Do not use a pot made of aluminium or copper. The fire might even get hot enough to melt those.

Whatever container you use, you might have to throw away along with the phone, so don’t use your good Dutch oven for this. Go to a thrift store and buy a cheap one.

Once you have the fireproof container:

Gently pick up the phone and put it in the fireproof container. If possible, gently tape the phone to the bottom of the container to prevent it from bouncing around. Don’t put any padding in there, that’ll just make a fire worse if it does happen. Put the lid on and tape it shut.

Put a label on the container, something like “DEFECTIVE LI-ION BATTERY – FIRE HAZARD”.

It is now reasonably safe to move the container around. However, if the battery does explode, the container is very likely to leak smoke and get hot, so keep it in a well-ventilated area and away from things that will be damaged by heat. Don’t leave it exposed to the weather, either.

You need to find either a hazardous waste disposal site, or an e-waste recycler that will accept defective Li-ion batteries. I can’t help with that because I have no idea where you live.

However, your local fire department, if you have one, will probably be happy to help. Call their non-emergency number. Nothing is on fire yet, so this isn’t an emergency, but things that can easily start a fire are still within the fire department’s responsibilities. Tell them you have a phone with a bulging lithium-ion battery, you put it in a fireproof container, and you want to know how to dispose of it safely.

If the fire department tries to tell you this isn’t dangerous or it’s okay to throw it out in the regular trash (with or without fireproof container), hang up on them and write a cranky letter to your local government representatives, then keep looking for a proper disposal site.

My daughters spend their days standing in long lines for water and bread instead of living their childhood 🥺 My husband was also injured while trying to bring food for us during the famine.
