Single Mom Cloud AU: Before the Weapons Attack if I remember correctly, Sephiroth was responsible for taking care of the Remnants and Prompto for a while, right? if so, poor guy. And I mean, they’re his kids and it IS his responsibility as a father! But he probably isn’t used to not having anyone to delegate, since there was always someone willing to help him when things got really overwhelming. Sephiroth can be efficient and patient but the Remnants unless you’re Cloud must be a (loving) headache
Rminds me of those dads who take care of the house so the mom can go on vacation with her friends and have time to herself and when she calls the dad seems like he’s surviving an apocalypse and in the verge of collapse
Sephiroth went into it so confident as well. He was sure that he would be able to look after his kids until Cloud was able to come home without much difficulty - they're his kids after all! He's being a Good Father (well better than literally every father he's interacted with for more than maybe a conversation or two). He's led army's into battle. Four of his own children should be easy.
To be fair to him I do think it's the Remnants that are what really makes it hard. Like sure his relationship with Prompto is already managing to be kind of awkward and Prompto will be shaken from what happened so even more sensitive but Prompto isolates when he's feeling uncomfortable. While I'm sure Sephiroth wouldn't like it because he's trying to be a good and supportive father and his kid isolating is clearly failing at that, it's also something that is kind of easy to manage - just let the kid hide in his bedroom.
The Remnants on the other hand are little terrors who are very, increadibly unhappy that Cloud is no longer with them. Especially seeing depending on exactly how old they are they might be very abruptly being weaned (like yes have been eating solid foods for a while but it's not that-that unusual to keep nursing until after 2 years old and if Cloud is trying to use it to delay his heats). They are the ones screaming and throwing tantrums and just generally refusing to settle no matter what Sephiroth does.
Every time Cloud calls Sephiroth is absolutely claiming that everything is going perfectly fine. Yes, he is successfully looking after the children, no need for Cloud to worry. He refuses for Cloud (or the rest of Avalanche) to know of his failures. He will get them all settled and things Under Control before Cloud comes back.
Cloud so knows that there is some degree of chaos happening back home. He can hear it in the exact tone as Sephiroth claims that the children are being absolutely fine (and also like Cloud knows his kids - he just knows the Remnants are being hellions because that is their default state).
One thing Cloud must consider a benefit of staying with Lord Sephiroth is sex,,, suuure it's a whim but he's just a mere mortal with desires and those desires are well satisfied!

I don't think Cloud would be exactly wanting for sex even if he left Sephiroth here. Like I'm sure if he really wants to he can find someone who will sleep with him and he's not that apposed to getting a reputation of having mothered bastards even if I'm sure he wouldn't want a pregnancy to result.
But also I'm sure Sephiroth is making sure the sex is good for Cloud as well. It's another part of him very much wanting to impress Cloud and be a good spouse for Cloud. He wants Cloud to want to have sex with him as well and not just see it as some unfortunate requirement as his wife.
Which like the sex definitively is not one of the things Cloud considered an unfortunate requirement of being married to Sephiroth. The sex is definitively very fine in Cloud's minds and there's definitively been moments where he's had the "thank gods he's good in bed" when Sephiroth is being particularly Sephiroth about things.

Super unfortunately for me the post has been classified as needing age restriction and I refuse to give X an image of my face or ID in order to be allowed to see such things.

Because I do fully and completely believe that Cloud would just up and leave and take the kids with him to go become some nobody on the edge of a forest somewhere if he truly was unhappy with Sephiroth as a spouse I do have to believe that Sephiroth is not a terrible husband. He's just kind of emotionally awkward and very much carrying the bias' of the world they live in. But Cloud does definitively have the mentality that he lived as a commoner when he was young he can do it again.
But I'm sure there's been at least a few instances over the years where he did contemplate the 'leave with the kids to go be a commoner again' Plan B in his head, only to decide that, no, he's not at that point yet.

Tumblr isn't any less aggravating a site to discuss trends in popular fiction on, but it's often aggravating in a different way. On most platforms it's a struggle to find people who are aware of any authors outside the very biggest names currently in publication, while on Tumblr half the responses are from people who have extensive knowledge of the classics but have evidently never read any fiction published this century.
