Also yes, queer is more inclusive! Especially coming at it from an academic standpoint, people didn’t always use or identify with the terms we use now and you can’t always try to cram them into our modern perceptions of sexuality. We can argue for years about whether a famous historical figure was gay or bisexual or straight and trans or whatever, but if we can all agree that they were somehow queer then using that term allows us to move past the debate and into productive discussion. And not everybody everywhere shares the same terms for sexual and gender identity, or even the same concepts of those things, so queer really is a more inclusive term in a lot of cases.

terfs and -phobes are always going to try and hurt us with what we identify as. but the fact remains these are OUR labels and always have been.

It just baffled me that people would think an identifier is automatically a slur just because someone uses it to mock someone. If we did that gay would be a slur. Stupid would be a slur. Autistic would be a slur.

It’s an old lament for how short and sweet summer is – I also like to read it as lament for romantic love, and the disappointments in it. Lempo is an old Finnish god – often depicted as a malevolent spirit and later with Christianity connected with Satan. There’s reason to believe that Lempo was actually also a god of love – although the depictions in details vary a lot. Sometimes love could turn into devilish Lempo inside a person, or that love itself is unpredictable, violent, and somewhat scary like Lempo.

Arrow: Wreg is pulling out an arrow out of his chest – often spirits/gods of love are depicted to have some sort of hunting equipment. Cupid famously, but some texts suggest Lempo also having arrows (evil ones lol – I wonder how much of the demonization is due to Christian mysticism of old religion). Wounds: Only one is clearly visible, but Wreg actually has two fresh ones and three fading scars around his ribs. As a man who loves love and gives his affections freely, I thought he’d also be expert in feelings of disappointment. Especially as a queer guy, who falls in love often with people who’ll never know of his affections. It’s up him alone to tend to wounds no one even knew where there in the first place. It’s also up to him pull the arrows out himself, no one else can help him. Leaves: Those are broadleaf plantain! They are commonly known to be used for treating various ailments, but especially wounds. In the zoom it’s more visible, but they are stained with blood, or rather that the wounds they are covering are bleeding through the delicate leaves.
