I did something a little crazy and drew all 15 of King Arcade's mascots from The 90's Kid to celebrate the coming 10th anniversary of the series' first night of writing in October.

It's time again for some 90's Kid side stories!

Here we take Gavin and Charlotte to Japan in 2018, and also see a key backstory moment play out in 2022, 1986, and some years in between. I'd say more about it, but it's such an important and spoiler heavy story that I'll let you decide if you're ready to read it!

Surprise Camp Morning Dew drop!

Camp Morning Dew appears in only two chapters in the original series, plus a little bit in a side story, but it gets talked about more often. In Another 90's Kid, we return to this place of summer getaways for another two chapters, and get to see it in 1995 this time. What happened there before Wessy and Jace and all their friends arrived?

The finale of the Girük saga sees the team getting waylaid in rural Nebraska by a dangerous group of people who worship the strange creature, and are willing to do anything to help their new god ascend to something greater. Perhaps those that devote themselves to a monster are worse than the monster itself… at least until it truly becomes unstoppable.

In this second part, Pom meets the ragtag team assigned to capture the monster and gets some answers about its origins. She finds herself having to work together with Mutt, the guy who once accidentally freed the other half of the creature, when extraordinary measures are taken to free Kennel of the menace. But it’s more cunning than they believe.

A small town in Wisconsin is being terrorized by something that is taking people in their sleep. Teenagers spread rumors that it has something to do with the mean old woman they call a witch, who recently moved into the woods nearby. As panic begins to take hold, a teenage girl shares her experiences… and unlocks her innate ability to project herself into the astral realm. [Spoilers: This 3-part story follows “I Used Astral Projection to Explore Area 51” and “Manny Willem’s Last Radio Show,” but reading them first is not required.]

This is kinda the biggest non-photo update I've done on Tumblr. Got a handful of things to talk about.

First of all, I have a Patreon page now, finally, after all these years. More on that at the bottom.

The main announcement is that the Valice I & II revisions are finally out and available to buy. Origins was the first book I ever wrote, and Reconstruction followed not soon after. These are the first two stories in an epic sci-fi trilogy I plan to complete soon (third book is written but not yet edited). Origins has brand-new artwork and is 50 pages shorter than its last version when it print form. No scenes were removed; it just had better trimming done and flows a little faster now.

All the buy links are visible on the valice.net home page. I'm not sure what's going on with the Kindle release or if there will be one. It's been a while since I last published to it and it has yet to show up. Still, you can always buy the ebook at Lulu and transfer it over. The ebook now goes for a lower $2.99 price.

Alternatively, you can read all of Origins right now on my Patreon page, with the first part being on Royal Road. The whole book will show up there eventually, but I'm only adding a chapter a week.

Origins follows a rag-tag band of rebels in a 23rd century Earth with a programmed false history, as they partner with the cat-like felile people in an effort to take down a corrupt empire as Valice, a mystical floating city, aids them. Its sequel takes place a century later and has a megacorporation as the enemy instead.

The 90's Kid has four new, self-contained short side stories! These tales focus on both major and more minor characters, and expand the universe to times past the 1990s and places beyond Royal Valley. Even if you haven't read the rest of the series, giving one of these a glance should give you a good idea of what it's all about.

In 1996, our MC gets to live out his dream and participate in a televised shopping spree at Toys 'R' Us. In 2005, an eternal optimist tries his hand at coordinating fun for the passengers aboard a cruise ship. From 2010-2013, we see a group of friends and recent college graduates in the struggles and drama at their game development garage studio. And in 2024, a former life guru who plays the drums and rides a motorcycle out in the desert finds herself stuck in a small town as she tries to find a way to properly grieve a loved one.

Hey creepypasta lovers, it's been a little bit but I've got a new scary story up. This one is more about the destructive possibilities of human nature and leans a little more into dark humor than usual, and I'm still on a time travel kick, so there's a central focus on that, too. While the range is limited, it's still enough to lead to some... bad things.

Here’s the final art update for my newest 90’s Kid story, which has moments in Halloween of 1999, but also returns our heroes to the far future, and this time all the way back to 1956!

The suburban utopia of Desert Tree and its early history is a key element and setting for this story, so at long last, I’ve also finally made artwork for it that is similar to the original Royal Valley cityscape from years ago, although here the scale would be more accurate/realistic. I’d estimate that over half of the entire series takes place in this area, so it definitely needed its own art. Now that I’ve drawn all the locations I really wanted to see, even I wonder what locale might show up next…

Act 2 of the new Comedy Situation 90's Kid story are the ones that are centered around Halloween and a haunted house (attraction). We see the old 90s gang in their best costumes while at a teen party in Zach's big backyard, but there's nothing scarier than their angst and squabbles. What's perhaps most amazing is seeing/reading about the emergence of modern day pop culture that is still relevant, and even wi-fi, with the 1999 iBook capable of connecting to the internet wirelessly! What a concept. So much has changed in a few years since we first began in 1995. Can you name the costumes that aren't Generic Goth Boy and Hippie? Without looking at the tags?

In chapter four, we have the storyline that I've been thinking about for over a year and existed before the rest of this story. Taking place in a famous large house, which has been made into a thrill ride for Halloween in 1999 and is completely abandoned by 2024, this creepy setting is where the city's lost treasure may be lurking. To find it, two groups will have to work together from opposite ends of a 25 year stretch of time, and in a creepy manor.

The 90's Kid returns!

In time for Halloween, this 6 1/2 novella-sized story has some seasonal themes with a visit to a haunted house and a teenage Halloween party in 1999. Wi-fi, Spongebob, and even Pokémon have all entered the scene. All cool stuff, but the central plot point is about a late 90s sitcom that its former child star, Izuki Satoro, is trying to revive.

Synopsis:

Two generations are now navigating high school; one in 1999, the other in 2024. Real life is rough, but a campy sitcom is to the rescue after Lucy remembers its existence. Somehow, the show has ties to a looming financial crisis for the city, and to solve it, our heroes will need to go back again to find a lost treasure. And now it’s Lucy’s turn to help.

Although it has a limited color pallet (this time with pastel-like colors to match the light-hearted themes of sitcoms), I've worked on improving 90's Kid art in general, so I'll also be sharing it over two more posts during the week.

My fantasy series, Aurra, is now on Royal Road. You can read it for free as chapters are added every other day! About half of the first book is already available. This contemporary fantasy story mixes in some sci-fi elements and follows a rising rebellion in the world of magic and mental synthesis opposite ours, where those from Earth are reborn. It is not overly serious, dark, or complicated, despite having a large cast of characters and plenty of world-building. The adventure happens in multiple worlds, and in the cities of the "afterlife" that are protected from a lethal atmosphere by artificial suns.

The tenth Cold Relics main series story, and maybe its last (at least for now), is Enigma Memory. This is definitely an ending to a story I've been working on for years, so it's a pretty big one. It explores both alternate realities destroyed by nuclear war and the depths of memories.
