I love selfshippers who stay as close to canon as possible, who weave their self insert right into the plot so seamlessly it feels like the story could’ve been written that way all along.
I love selfshippers whose self inserts look like they’d never belong in the universe at all and feel so out of place that everyone else in the source would be confused by their entire existence but that’s what makes them so iconic.
I love selfshippers who design the perfect self insert that blends in so well, fans of the series do a double take and wonder, “Wait, did I miss this character in canon?”
I love selfshippers who create AUs, headcanons, and redesigns of their f/os until they’re almost unrecognizable from the source material.
I love selfshippers who keep everything about their f/o exactly the same, except now their f/o gets to kiss them, and that’s enough.
At the end of the day, there’s no “right” way to selfship. Do what makes you happy, and know that me (and so many others) will be cheering you on, whether you embrace canon or completely rewrite it. 🩷
