In the Innocent Monochrome supplement book, there’s a convo between Shinichi and Suetsugu Yuki (of Chihayafuru fame) about Innocent. Here’s some snippets that contain the context of Charles and Marie’s characterizations (or lack thereof) - though I ran it through Google Translate so take them with an itty bitty pinch of salt

Thanks for these snippets. The ideas that Sakamoto talks about are interesting, though I feel like his execution leaves a lot to be desired; his pacing is all over the place, and it really effects the coherence of Charles' arc. I also actually thought his initial depiction of Marie as someone who is inherently talented and fascinated with execution and biology could have been an interesting character (and a really good foil to Charles), but the turn into just a nihilist that does whatever she wants just really makes any interesting aspects of her fall apart.

Tried to stick to a specific palette (vivid candy colors idk how to call them) for the fist one and also while i was drawing it I've made another one^^

Now this one was meant to be a sketch but I really enjoyed trying to replicate this old-shoujo artstyle, so I might even revisit it later to change some details or add color and overall make it more neat

#the window of orpheus #orpheus no mado #my japanese still sucks so it's probably gonna take me 15 minutes to read a page #but the scanlation is incomplete and uhhh #no offense to scanlators they are doing the lord's work #but it's lacking some prosaic finesse and seems to be a little literal in its translation #also probably rant for another post but it's weird how little of ikeda's work is translated in english #considering how influential she is

Catharine's insane. She's a vibe. She's the prefect distillation of a nine-year-old. I love her.
