Yesterday I watched Brand New Day and it finally gave me context for the bump bed scene that I saw way too much people using to say shit like “Peter is Jean's Tony” and I must say, I'm angry. Not to give much spoilers, but that scene had nothing to do with Tony. It was about Family and Grief, and some people could say that Tony was that for Peter, but NO!

The Home Trilogy puts too much emphasis on Tony and that always annoyed me. Now, I understand liking Irondad and Spiderson, I read those fics all the times. Hell, I even have one myself.

But Tony was not good for Peter, he simply wasn't.

Someone that blackmails and bribes a fourteen year old to fight the freaking Avengers on the WRONG side in the other side of the world and then ghost said CHILD for six months and never owns his bullshit cannot be good.

Some people might say that saying thinking like BLACKMAILING and BRIBE isn't fair, but it's exactly what Tony did. He found out Spider-Man was a freshman, went to his house, talked to his aunt, realised said aunt didn't know anything, and then proceeded to make said freshman terrified of the idea of him telling his aunt (or any body else) that he was Spider-Man. That is blackmailing. The bribe however comes with the sick suit he gives Peter, a suit that was a freaking weapon and even had a Instant Kill Mode. A suit that he never explained how worked and just took back when he felt like it, a suit that could have helped a lot when a freak building fell on Peter and he had nothing but sweatshirts. But was right to take the suit back, no? Peter bite too much and almost hurted tons of people. Except, he called both Tony and Happy dozens of times to tell them what was happening and they didn't pick up. If they had, Peter would know that they listened to him and started their own investigation. But that did not happen. What happened was that Peter was lured by Tony to FIGHT HIS BATTLE FOR A CLEAN CONSCIOUSNESS and then discharge when billionaire, playboy Tony couldn't deal with the fact that behind the mask there was not only a person, but a doe-eyes child that locked up to him and wanted to be like him. Which is terrible, and know should ever be like Tony, and thanks gods at he realises that. But the way he goes on with it? Cutting Peter off? Letting him believe he's worth was ended after German? Taking the suit back? Not picking up when he is trying to giving them essentials information? That was so freaking wrong. So bad, so not good.

That is why Tony sucks. Tony is a terrible mentor to Peter. And he definitely is not a father figure. But people forgets that a lot. RDJ's Tony is good enough for people to forget he sucks was a human most e the time. I am not saying he's evil, and we see his development through all those films. But ultimately, Tony hurts you a lot before doing it right for you. He did it with Pepper, Rhodey, Happy, and he did it with Peter. He owned his bullshit? Mostly. But Tony and Peter don't actually have that much screen time together for him to own anything.

Civil War he makes Peter a child soldier for the wrong side. Homecoming he's ignoring Peter. Infinity War he's trying to get them back to Earth alive. Endgame he creates the device to bring everyone back out of the guilt he feels for losing Peter (which I both understand and think is bullshit because even if Peter was on Earth, he would still be snapped). Way From Home he's haunting the narrative. Piercing everything together, they must have less then one hour of screen time together in five films.

But you know what they have? Fanfics. Tons of it. Again, nothing against fanfic. I love them. But people really need to start remember what is fanon and what is canon, so y'all can stop saying stupid shit like Peter is Jean's Tony when clearly that scene was about him stepping up for her like May and Ben stepped up from him.

Tony truly shouldn't be more relevant in Peter's life than his own family. Ben and May shouldn't be ignore just because RDJ made a good job in making the most useless and forgetful Marvel character relevant. I mean, c'mon! The only reason the made the first Iron Man movie was because it was the only character they had available. No one wanted to by him because no one gave a shit about him.

I'm crying she basically just said

And then I get legions of people who are like "Ah, so you're okay with people DOING BAD THINGS?" No, I'm explicitly against that

"Ah but if they DID THE BAD THINGS, it's because they were THINKING ABOUT IT and WANTING TO DO IT." Correct. The problem is the doing

"Oh, so you think NO ONE who EVER thought about doing bad things has EVER done a bad thing??" No. I'm sure many of them did think about it beforehand. I'm sure many also did not. It's the doing that's the issue

"So you want me to be COOL with PEOPLE DOING BAD THINGS" No. The doing is the problem. I also don't expect you to be cool with anything, I don't know you or care about you and nobody is owed any particular emotional reaction
