Iris—no, Nyx—stood on the obsidian ridge of The Tenebris, the sky above her swallowing light into the silent scream of a black hole. Her breath misted in the chill, thin air as the cries of rebellion echoed far below. Once, she believed in this world. Trained under blood and ash, desperate to rise beyond her station, she carved herself into a weapon for the crown that spat her out the moment they glimpsed her roots.

The night Terminus called to her, there were no stars.

The Aeon's presence was not warm, nor cruel—only inevitable. A voice that wasn’t a voice whispered through the marrow of her bones, unraveling her name, her past, and leaving behind something other. Power surged through her like starlight collapsing. She became Nyx, bearer of the inevitable end. Her path no longer belonged to The Tenebris.

Years blurred into galaxies. With the Stellaron Hunters, she wore shadows like armor and danced with blades under alien skies. Elio gave her purpose—or a prophecy. Blade gave her silence—and then, slowly, something like love. He never smiled, not even when she traced the scars across his back, whispering stories of dead gods and dying stars.

But fate, cruel and precise, tore them apart.

Elio's script called her to the Astral Express. Nyx left with no goodbye, just a final look at Blade’s storm-gray eyes, colder than space. The crew of the Express eyed her warily, but March’s warmth, Dan Heng’s quiet trust, and Stelle’s stubborn friendship thawed something in her.
