It becomes true
„I’m a real loser, you see even this time I failed, as I had predicted!” This is a statement which we can hear day after day from a pessimistic person. Actually, it contains the key word, which makes it true. Worrying about the future and making negative predictions are often the main causes of failure. Due to the fact that these people always tell themselves to lose, to fail, they will eventually obey their own order.
Personally, I am trying to avoid these people. Their negative attitude can easily have an effect on me, and I can catch it like flu. Not only that they always predict the worst ending, but even if they achieve their goals, they keep complaining endlessly. I do my best to remain positive, and to see the bright side of life, which can be quite hard sometimes. I do not need distraction.
Once I had a friend who behaved this way. I have always tried to show her the bright side of life, and disregard her negative comments. She has always failed, had bad grades, false friends, and her love life was tragic. Sadly, I could understand her failures; no one would be able to stand her endless complaints and negative attitude. One day all of a sudden she started a ‘positive thinking diary’. It was the end of this curse of bad luck. Since then I cannot be prouder of her and her recent success and progress.
This case of my friend demonstrates us, that if we decide to change our lives and leave the negative thoughts behind us, we can be the exception. We can encourage people and even ourselves. In my opinion this is the key to happiness. Maybe if we do not worry about the future our eyes will be more open to the world, and we can discover the little miracles all around us. Because if you smile to the world, it will smile back at you.

“Good ideas are not produced in a vacuum; they emerge from thought. Once you understand this, you can understand the art of writing. Writing is a process--a gradual, progressive process that begins with a search and ends with a discovery. It is only after thinking, questioning, reflecting, and organizing that writing can take place. No one understood this better than the man who wrote the world’s first essays; Montaigne, the great French philosopher, worked on his first collection of essays for over eight years before he had them printed in 1580. You probably won’t have quite so much time to spend on your essays, but you do have to be willing to resist the temptation to rush the process--skipping the search and settling for the first random idea that pops into your head--just to complete an assignment. The writing process will work for you, but only if you appreciate the value of each step in the process:
Choosing a Topic
Establishing a Purpose
Forming a Thesis Statement
Becoming Aware of Your Audience
Organizing Your Thoughts
Writing Your Paper
Choosing Effective Titles
Editing and Rewriting”

Tripping to the castle
Original:
Yesterday I was woken up early by a throbbing headache. After a pill-and-sweets breakfast I crossed the lake, and ended up at the winter-struck beach of a neighbouring city, accompanied by a Finnish and a German girl, and also by a swarm of ducks, s swarm of swans, and a swarm of nature’s ever-changing charms. We were headed to the baroque castle, but got hijacked by the sight of a deerhound lying inside a cinnamon-smelled café in the walking street. The castle itself turned out to be the home of religious services, an antique library with more than 80.000 volumes, and an open piano-room in which a group of opera singers were rehearsing their next performance – a refreshingly inspiring atmosphere for unsuspicious visitors. In the surrounding gardens we also bumped into a cactus-house and a tropical rainforest (I’ve never seen anyone entering a rainforest in a wintercoat before), and two alternative dimensions, which the locals humbly just called “museums”. In an hour or so we walked through the wildlife of five continents and about 30 international railway stations with arm-long trains passing through tunnels and fields and cities of miniature humans captured in various moments of their miniature lives. Back on the normal-sized bus my head was spinning with tiredness and with the thought of another year of such unexpected adventures. Yes, please.
Trip 1:
Yesterday I was woken up by a throbbing headache, so I started the day with a pill-and-sweets breakfast, then I crossed the lake, and ended up at the winter-struck beach of a neighbouring city accompanied by a Finnish and a German girl, with whom we decided to head to the baroque castle -- a refreshingly inspiring atmosphere for visitors, making us feel great there, but then I fell back to normal life, with a mind full of thoughts about another year of great adventures.
Trip 2:
Yesterday I woke up with a throbbing headache, and after a pill-and-sweets breakfast I crossed the lake and ended up in the neighbouring city in the company of Finnish and German girls, and together we were headed to a baroque castle when we saw a deerhound lying next to many things, such as tremendous libraries, piano rooms, cactus houses, museum-called rainforests, different wild animals, and miniature train stations, so I just sat there feeling spinningly tired on the bus, and waited for the next unexpected adventure like this.

The weight of responsibility
Allison had a bad night on Saturday. She went to the Fairlaws’ house to babysit their son, Jake, and daughter, Lisa. Jake is five years old, clever, in a sense, and always up to something that would cast away any babysitter after one day on the job. Allison knew this, but she could not say no this time: the Fairlaws always paid double the money if the kids were in bed safe and sound by the time Mom and Dad got back home. Considering that the next day was the last one to sign up for the New York trip that Allison—and everybody else in her school, for that matter—had been dreaming about, she knew that she needed that money no matter what.
She arrived at the Fairlaws’ at eight, said goodbye to Mr and Mrs Fairlaw as they were leaving, and sat down for dinner with Jake and Lisa. To her misfortune, everything went as expected: Jake started the night by pouring his glass of milk all over the floor during dinner.
“Clean that up,” Allison ordered.
“You can’t tell me what to do,” Jake responded. He ran away from the dinner table, laughing.
“I’m bored. I want to play a game,” Lisa whined.
“Jake, if you clean up your mess we can play a game,” Allison said.
“Okay.” Allison gave him a handful of paper towels and he used them to clean up the milk. “I want to play hide-and-seek,” he said.
“Okay, I will be the seeker first,” Allison replied. “You two have thirty seconds to hide!” Allison covered her eyes with her hands and counted slowly from one to thirty.
“Ready or not, here I come!” she called. Allison got up and peeked into the kitchen closet. Nobody was inside. She checked under the couches in the living room. She looked in the garage. Allison decided that nobody was hiding downstairs, so she walked upstairs and continued her search. She opened the door to Lisa’s bedroom and found her hiding under the bed.
“I found you!” she squealed. “Okay, now help me find Jake,” she told Lisa. Allison and Lisa searched all over the house. They could not find Jake.
“It’s been more than half an hour and he is nowhere in sight,” Allison thought. “They were supposed to be in bed by nine.” She started to get really worried. She told Lisa to go and brush her teeth, and then go to her bedroom until she brings Jake upstairs. A second later she heard the rattling of keys at the front door. Allison knew she was in trouble, and at the worst damned time, really, so she needed to act quickly.
A
She quickly went to Jake’s bedroom and stacked some pillows under Jake’s blanket. After that she met with the parents. She told them that they had been playing in the backyard and that she was going to pick up some toys that they had left outside.
In fact, she went outside to look for Jake, because the backyard was the only place where he could have stayed hidden for so long. After ten minutes of searching she found him between the shed and a bush. He was already asleep, probably because of boredom, so she picked him up and took him inside while the parents were busy with something else.
Allison put the boy in bed and went downstairs to talk with the parents. Luckily, they did not notice anything, therefore she got the payment and a request to watch over the kids the next time. The Fairlaws were very satisfied with her work.
The next day Allison managed to sign up for the trip to New York. She thought that this trip was surely well-earned.
B
Allison was thinking about the trip to New York and how badly she wanted to go. Her first thought was to deceive the parents and tell them that Jake and Lisa were already sleeping. Meanwhile they would be taking off their shoes and coats, she could still find the boy. Yes, it would have been the easy way, but Allison knew that it is not always the best. She realized that a kid’s safety is way more important than a trip, to which she can go anytime. She made up her mind and told the parents the truth: Jake was not found yet.
Instead of shouting at her, Mrs and Mr Fairlaw continued the search with her. They found Jake in a couple of minutes; he was already sleeping in the wardrobe of his. “Thank god,” said everyone.
The Fairlaws were angry, but Allison was happy that nothing worse had happened. Later when they were calmed down they realized that Allison was very decent and told them the truth. Honoring her honesty, they paid her all the promised money, and made her swear that next time she would not frighten them this much.
The little siblings were safe and Allison was feeling as if she was in a dream: she could sign up for the trip, thanks to the Fairlaws. After all, being straight and honest is always better than choosing the easy way.
