I CANT BE THE FIRST PERSON WHO THOUGHT OF THIS
Why Character Analysis Are Important
Character analysis are great within a fandom. It's when a fan tries to understand a character more in depth. Helping us understand a character's creation, motives, behavior and their relationships with other characters. I thought about this, as I thought about the typical Jinu haters. Someone who hates him but doesn't give off the vibe to understanding why other fans like this character.
Something I love in storytelling is learning about the character. What the inspiration for the character's development is. Like how the Saja Boys are pretty much corrupted Korean Grim Reapers and the artistic alternate robes Jinu and his boy's could of been wearing.
It really makes you wonder as well as how Gwima chooses the victim's he intends to enslave vs consume. Such as Jinu who was starving on the streets with his family. How the transformation went ect. I also wonder if Gwima would have turned Mira and Zoey into Saja Demons. Why waste their souls when he could use them.
Another thing I like learning in early drafts is us seeing that Jinu is pretty dangerous when he wants to be. In the original, we see this by him easily avoiding Rumi's attacks. She only get's one lucky hit when it didn't take him long to slice her sleeve open revealing her patterns. Which was the scene that needed to happen to move the story along. In Alex Chiu's early version it seems almost like Jinu is toying with Rumi before she gets her lucky hit. This isn't a dig at Rumi but makes me realize she isn't possibly the first hunter he has ran into who has tried to cut his head off, no questions asked.

Something that drives me nuts is when Jinu's haters accuse him of gaslighting Rumi without understanding what gaslighting actually is.
Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation. When the abuser makes the victim not trust their own memories, judgements or sanity.
The only character that does any gaslighting is Gwima and the victim is Jinu. (Other demons too but we see this abuse through Jinu)
This is what Gwima wants Jinu to believe about himself. It's also established that this is how Gwima controls his demons. With shame.
Their patterns also hurt when they flare up. So it's not just mental torture but he is being physically tortured.
Its also showed that if your "weak" or not useful to Gwima he kills you.
Jinu has mastered the art of survival under his abuser and dodging hunters who attack no questions asked. He is useful and competent which Jinu's haters hate, but shows why Gwima won't let him go. But was also willing to listen to his plan.
Jinu is a complex morally grey who is bad not because he wants to be but because of his life under Gwima. I think it's fair to say perhaps the character things he has to do more to redeem himself even if it wasn't his fault, being enslaved to a Demon King. Something he would feel he needs to do, while Rumi is keeping an eye on his mental health. 400 years under Gwima wouldn't just disappear.
Jinu being a cat dad 🐯🐯🐯
I bet these 2 will wait for their dad.

An angel loses it's wings everytime i see an ex zutara shipper claim they've grown up and now realise how "toxic" the ship actually is.
What they actually mean is that they were harassed and now they think they gotta do it to others. You would think they would have learned something from Zuko's redemption.

a lot of writing is sort of watching the film in your head like oh sorry can’t write the chapter yet i have to repeat hallucinate the dialogue first
Something I also find of note that I feel gets overlooked a lot by the fandom is how casual Gwi-Ma’s physical abuse of Jinu is—like even after the bathhouse fight when Gwi-Ma is pleased with Jinu and (sorta) complimenting him (“I taught you well, Jinu” still mostly praises Gwi-Ma and “Surprisingly, your plan is working” is like, reluctantly impressed), Gwi-Ma still yanks Jinu down to the realm rather roughly, if Jinu’s grunt when he lands is any indication. Unlike the shame Gwi-Ma consciously inflicts on his demons, he doesn’t even draw much attention to the fact that he can drag and yank them around, it’s more of almost subconscious for him. Idk if that made any sense lol. I could be way off hahaha
It's true. I think... Gwi-Ma goes about his abuse in a fairly casual, conversational way, whether it's physical or emotional or whatever--he always acts like it's a natural fact of life because he wants his demons to believe it's a natural fact of life. By just constantly throwing in little barbs like the ones you mentioned, Gwi-Ma sets the tone for the dynamic between the two of them. Just like a constant drip, drip, drip of undercutting whatever Jinu's done to wear him down.
I imagine the physical abuse, especially, is something that Gwi-Ma wants demons to expect as "natural" and just a fact of their existence because so much of it is meant as a reminder that he owns their soul. He couldn't do anything to them if he didn't own their soul. He wants them to stay aware of the fact that Gwi-Ma has control over their souls (and by extension their bodies), because if they start to believe that they can escape Gwi-Ma's control, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy--like what happens with Jinu in the end. And Gwi-Ma can't have that.
No this makes perfect sense, and honestly, I love it when fan content explores and addresses how violent Gwi-Ma’s physical abuse of his demons can be. He owns their bodies completely, and I love when people write or talk about him being able to use patterns to constrict their throats, slam their mouth shut, twist or break their limbs, etc. It’s incredibly violating to not even own your own body, how Gwi-Ma can yank you around with just a thought.
Back on my bullshit again, but this has to be said.
Polytrix shippers/Rujinu-antis are more likely to be misogynistic than Rujinu shippers or just Jinu enjoyers. That's just how it is.

So i meant to post this last night before bed, but i literally fell asleep mid-typing (for once the sleep pills worked immediately, shocking) but!!! KPDH headcanons!!
Rumi can’t cook.
Well, she can cook simple things that require a couple ingredients and to just be boiled. But anything more than that and she can’t. Once the recipe starts getting vague, saying “choose the spices you like” or “cook until it looks done” is when things start going bad. Celine tried to teach her to cook, but she’s also a bad cook so it didn’t help.
But baking??? Rumi is an excellent baker!! It’s a science: clearly define measurements for each ingredient, very simple as to the point steps. No “follow what your heart tells you” in making substitutions or changes. Her cookies are literally to die for.
Mira is the opposite.
She can bake, in theory. Her problem is she avoids recipes like she’s allergic. She’s constantly making changes to the recipes, making substitutions, adding new ingredients, changing the measurements because she wants to bake her way. The end results vary, usually leaning in the “not good” area.
But cooking? If she wasn’t an idol she would have had a future as a top chef. She is an amazing cook. Literally just follows her instincts when cooking in what ingredients to use and how. Makes her own recipes, makes her own wild spin on known recipes. Plus she is so good at making cooking into some kind of show with how dramatic she makes it. No matter what she cooks, it’s always so, so good.
Now Zoey is straight up banned from the kitchen
Cooking or baking, she’s not to be trusted. She gets ingredients mixed up, gets the measurements mixed up, has lost count of how often a recipe will say 1 cup of sugar and she unknowingly puts in 1 cup of salt. That’s not even including all the fires she started and all the ones she almost started because she had something on the stove or in the oven and just forgot because something else distracted her. This girl can only be trusted with microwave meals. The concoctions she creates deserve their own horror movie.
But snacks? Neither Rumi or Mira know how, but this girl is a god at making amazing snacks out of whatever they got in the fridge. No cooking or baking required, just grabs a handful of random ingredients to mix together and suddenly they have some vaguely off putting looking but shockingly delicious treat to eat while they watch movies together.
You know that whatever character did those problematic things isn't like. Real, right?
You are aware that a fictional character is just a rhetorical construct designed to fulfill a narrative/thematic purpose right? That their actions are written by an author who wants to use them to explore complex ideas and moral gray areas within the safe confines of fiction right? That they aren't a real person who has killed real people right?
