As a concept, I don't have anything against Rise fans trying to bring back their favourite adaptation, obviously. However, I do think it's a fruitless effort with the way it's being handled. If you're taking action, the effort needs to be not only organised, but the goal posts themselves have to be reasonable too. Asking for a TV continuation when it was unsuccessful the first time makes no sense, especially when asking for such a feat from a money-oriented network. If fans want any chance of "bringing back" Rise, it will have to be in a less costly form, such as a comic adaptation.
Let me use a simple analogyāsomeone hired me to bake a cake, and they paid for the ingredients and the time and effort it'll take for me to bake it. However, the cake I made turned out to be a failure. Naturally, I wouldn't be hired again to make a cake. Yet, I beg for one more chance. What do you think is more likely if they decide to give me another opportunity? Would the person spend even more time and money for me to make another cake? Or would they have me make something smaller and less costly, like a cookie, to see if I can actually bake well?
It's a really redundant scenario, but in layman's terms, this is what the situation looks like. However, the prominent figures in the Rise fandom aren't setting a more realistic goal, and thus, they are hyping up a crowd for inevitable disappointment. Worst of all, blocking out any rightful critiques and suggestions makes this effort look all the more disorganised and fervent. You can't pose yourself as a leader of a movement and then plug your ears to any rational advice.
What especially grinds my gears is how people are getting overly defensive and aggressive when someone expresses anything other than a mindless "Yes, boss, yes!". Taking a hardline approach when calling for mass action only does a big disservice to the goal they want to achieve, as you now expose yourself to being unable to take even the mildest criticism, and thus lacking the maturity or patience to see anything through. @toy-powerhouse (please let me know if you want me to untag/remove you from this post!) brought up a fairly reasonable point and expressed a sentiment shared by others, including Rise fans. Her input was hidden, and despite not being confrontational at all, someone had replied to her hostily. I already had my doubts about #SaveRottmnt, but that interaction left such a bad taste in my mouth that it solidified my opinion that reasonable people aren't behind this effort.
My takeaway and advice? Wait for an organised effort spearheaded by actual tolerable and fair-minded fans, or the best one yetāaccept what you have and spend your time and effort on fan creations, or try out other iterations. This franchise spans so many years and adaptations, I'm sure you'll find something else you'll enjoy if you keep an open mind!
