I remember seeing this piece during my very first trip to the Met in 2014, and in spite of feeling so disturbed by the rather jarring image, I snapped the photo to study it later on. While time and nature's elements do damage to these artifacts, it has to be acknowledged that, whether in modern times or centuries ago, at least some percentage of these artifacts were deliberately defaced. I compared this to other artifacts and I see how the explanation of damage due to deterioration could be made and even tolerated, but with others such as this one (and a few others that I'll post at a later time), the word "HATER" came to mind instantly. I mean, what sort of a miserable, envious, hate-filled curmudgeon do you have to be to do something like this? Then I thought, perhaps there were jewels/gems in the eyes and thieves made off with them... I think I could tolerate that concept more than some phuckball destroying it out of spite. #ancienthaters It brings to mind a quote I posted about a month ago. Folks talk smack about you just for the sake of not wanting you to be viewed in a positive light, and when I think of it in that way, the foolishness in the picture doesn't seem as far-fetched. #moderndayhaters #trolls #curmudgeons #history #egypt #africa #kings #queens #pharoahs #empires #thieves #graverobbers #archeologists #snakes #napoleonbonaparte #alexanderthegreat #hate #jealousy #envy #misery ♢ #watchthemdogs #mostkings || Anybody ever does that to me, best believe I'm finding a way back from the #afterlife and taking you back with me, lol...smh #horrible (at Metropolitan Museum of Art)
