Sherlock Holmes, despite being one of the most adapted characters in media, is almost always characterized differently than in the source material. Despite having a habit of unnerving people with his deductions, and his distaste for the police force, Sherlock Holmes is canonically good at reassuring people, gets along amicably with clients, and has an affectionate relationship with Watson. However, he is almost always adapted to be extremely stoic and unable to interact with people in a regular fashion, as is a common trope with genius characters. Whether being smart but socially inept is a caricature of Savant Syndrome or a result of an effort to create flaw in a character whose skills were not balanced out with much deficit, it is clear that Sherlock Holmes has been the subject of much transformation in the public consciousness, straying from the envisioning of Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle. Is this modified personality better, creating a more well-rounded and interesting character? Or, does it instead stereotype and boil down the traits that, left alone, made Sherlock Holmes the quintessential star of detective fiction, restorting to trite and digestible cliché? top 5 'bad' movies?

psycho beach party!! featuring amy adams first and most iconic role, the director of jen silverman's the moors (great play btw love this play), and every permutation of CAMP imaginable. this is a bad movie categorically speaking, but also an extremely good movie, actually.

tall girl but only because i am very fond of this post and this letterboxd review (both of which are penned by some sort of absolute genius i would say...)

not to be that guy, but sharknado ends with the main character chainsawing his way out of a shark's stomach and managing to pull the female lead out of said shark's stomach, because they actually both got eaten by the same shark out of the thousands if not millions of sharks sweeping the city. what are the odds?? it's so fucking epic ok. that said, it's no birdemic.

ophelia (2018) dir. claire mccarthy is so delightfully awful. i am just going to link to my review here. i still think about the insane edit of that gargoyle that had nothing to do with the movie but was given like 30 seconds of screentime in weird, horror-esque jumpcuts for absolutely no reason. this movie cost 12 million US dollars to make.

as far as rob zemeckis movies go, i don't think any of them are actually good (forrest gump being the worst offender of films that are considered good but are decidedly not) but back to the future parts 1 & 2 have my whole heart despite being absolutely fucking insane – no, because of it. on the other end of the "bad rob zemeckis movies" spectrum, there is beowulf, which is genuinely the worst movie i have ever seen. worse than the room, worse than the last airbender, worse than anything else you could ever possibly think of. this movie invented new forms of misogyny. do you know how impressive that is? which is, of course, why its my namesake (and why i once got called out for "sexualizing grendel's mother").

also this ask is a great excuse to link to kennie jd's bad movies & a beat playlist, which is a series i enjoy having on in the background while i do work or draw and includes nothing but thorough descriptions of bad movies, some of which i've seen, and many of which i haven't, but i feel like i have, now.

the ophelia 2018 movie makes me soooo mad because it could have been so good. they had such beautiful costumes and genuinely witty dialogue and such a cool concept for a story and then they went and made horatio a grave robber and chalked up hamlet’s problem to him being revenge-crazy and ended the movie with like, the most patronizing scene ever in the name of empowering ophelia. like...how do u miss all possible interpretations of the source material that badly
