genuinely very sad to me how people have forgotten that women are like, an oppressed class. god forbid you talk about the patriarchy without someone saying "but it affects men too!!" that doesn't change the fact that MEN ARE THE OPPRESSORS. imagine if we did this with any other sort of bigotry, if black people talking about antiblackness got told every time they tried to bring it up that it affects tan white people too. that would be stupid and for good reason. people really took intersectionality and completely misinterpreted it
What a monster jesus christ

My friend needs help. Between the death of a beloved rabbit already, and her wedding coming in just over a month, she's been hit with another catastrophe. Any little bit helps ❤️
So I took a self defense class with a feminist club on campus last night and the instructor was explaining to us that our voice is our most important asset during a confrontation with a possible predator and we were going to practice yelling “stop it” at the top of our lungs until he went around and discovered that none of the women felt comfortable doing it.
He pointed at the first girl and said “yell at me” and she told him she didn’t feel comfortable yelling or raising her voice.
He pointed at another and she said she didn’t want to disrupt anyone else on the field.
He asked if the girls would feel more comfortable yelling if we had been in a closed space with just us and they said maybe.
It was just really heart breaking honestly that these women, including myself, didn’t feel comfortable raising their voices or grabbing attention in a practice setting where everyone knew what we were doing. Women are socialized to remain quiet and not use their voices.
We ended up practicing yelling all at once together and it made everyone a lot more comfortable. I just hope that if the time ever comes, that we speak up and scream our heads off in the face of a potential attacker.

Violent patriarchal culture would like for you to think that femicide is an innate, and therefore justified, part of human society. It is not. Cultures can and must change. Don't let them make you think that it's hopeless.
Andrea Dworkin's classic Beauty Hurts diagram from Woman Hating (1974), updated for modern procedures, fifty years later.
A first step in the process of liberation (women from their oppression, men from the unfreedom of their fetishism) is the radical redefining of the relationship between women and their bodies. The body must be freed, liberated, quite literally: from paint and girdles and all varieties of crap. Women must stop mutilating their bodies and start living in them. Perhaps the notion of beauty which will then organically emerge will be truly democratic and demonstrate a respect for human life in its infinite, and most honorable, variety. —Andrea Dworkin, Woman Hating (1974)

Strength training is good for everyone. But women who train regularly, reduce their risk of death from heart disease significantly. And here
"What surprised us the most was the fact that women who do muscle strengthening had a reduction in their cardiovascular mortality by 30%," Gulati says. "We don't have many things that reduce mortality in that way."
"The take home message is – let's start moving," says Eric Shiroma, a prevention-focused researcher at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health, which provided grant support for the research.
Published March 11, 2024. Some good news for women’s health :)
In a world of abortion bans and a deluge of news stories of men shooting women and their children when they try to leave relationships, stories like these send chills up my spine.
One argument is all it took for this man to remind this woman that she’s tied to him now forever, and he can use that tie any way he wants. He threw the pregnancy in her face because it gives him power over her.
6 years of friendship. 2 years of a relationship.
One argument.
“We survive through amnesia, by being unable to remember what happened to us. We survive by not remembering the name of the woman who was in the newspaper yesterday, who was walking some where and was missing. What was her name? There are too many of them. I am sick to death of not being able to remember the names.”
Life and Death, Andrea Dworkin
Just last week my parents and I were discussing a woman who had gone missing (killed by a man ofc) and each of us were discussing 3 separate women…it was horrifying.
Swerfs are literally the only ones who care about what happens to vulnerable women; the rest of you are cheering on men who exploit them and are trying to gaslight all of us by pretending that turning your body into a product of consumption is “empowering”
Which is why somehow it only happens to the most vulnerable women
That you don’t care about because you encourage the industry exploiting them.
We see you, hypocrites and misogynists.
We see you.
I always appreciate how users scream “Wahhh _____ person is a SWERF” and refuse to engage with or acknowledge how many former prostitutes are also SWERFS due to their lived experiences
she was literally a prostitute earlier in her life 😭😭😭😭
"""SWERFS""" are by definition sex worker inclusionary it's kind of what the whole schtick is about!

about to say something mean but i feel like every "male-specific" issue is something that also happens to women its just that a lot of you dont seem to see women as people
women are also feeling lonely and alienated from communities en masse women are also expected to stifle their mental health for the sake of perfomance at work, in relationships, for children ect women are also expected to work extremely hard to maintain a perfect body and perfect health and are punished for being fat/having hair loss/having health issues especially those that affect ones sex life women are also insecure women are also neglected by parents and teachers and authority figures women are also scrutinized for having emotions and punished for not meeting the gendered expectations of our class and expected to climb upwards and overcompensate while being punished for signs of poverty and we get the added bonus on top of, yknow, being women. your emotional issues are not a Crisis Attacking Manhood theyre the way our society is fucking built you just dont see women as people

Amber Heard was in preschool the first time Johnny Depp was arrested for assault and he's spent the three decades since then getting arrested and accused of assault and violent rages over and over again while talking about his persistent drug and alcohol abuse and people are still looking at this case like "hmm I dunno maybe Gone Girl is real????"
the idea that restrooms, locker rooms, etc need to be single-sex spaces in order for women to be safe is patriarchy's way of signalling to men & boys that society doesn't expect them to behave themselves around women. it is directly antifeminist. it would be antifeminist even if trans people did not exist. a feminist society would demand that women should be safe in all spaces even when there are men there.
btw this is maybe the single most key distinguishing feature of the terfy strains of radical feminism, the seed all the rest of it springs out of: they have absolutely no faith in the ability of feminism to actually destroy patriarchy. they do not think feminism can truly build a better world. they cannot really even imagine that possibility. they think patriarchy is an inevitable natural consequence of unchangeable biological facts, and therefore the goal of feminism can only be to mitigate the worst effects of patriarchy, not to get rid of it.
they can imagine a society where women get some designated safe spaces without men around. they cannot imagine a society where the presence of men is not inherently a danger to women.
