This is the amount I currently have in my account. I need to buy some basics in regards to food so I can survive the next week.

My living arrangement is pretty much like a hostel. We all have our own rooms, we are responsible for cleaning it and we are responsible for our own food.

I’m thinking that I should buy rice, beans, veggies and any white meat (all healthy food so my Hidradenitis Suppurativa won’t get triggered. Also please don’t google this condition, it’s… not very nice to see the scarring and the flare ups). But as you can see, I have no money. Plus, I fractured my drawing arm and I’m wearing a cast, so I can’t promise art in return for now, but you can still make requests and I’ll get right on that whenever the doctor gets this cast out x_x

Everyone involved in the chain of command were perfectly content to sacrifice six lives on the alter of their mission, and when Maverick tried to curb that and be like "they can survive this and I'm training them to do so," the bosses were pissed bc it took time away from training to hit the target.

How in the fuck anyone can watch a movie where the navy is straight up like "yeah let's sign off on the deaths of 6 of our own people, and get mad at the one person who's trying to save their lives," and come away from the movie saying "wow I want to join the navy" is staggering to me.

The disconnect here is that people who comsume these narratives don't understand that this is the fictional part. It glorifies the actions of certain people in the chain of command, making it seem like there is always at least one person who is acting with your best interest in mind when that couldn't be farther from the truth. There is no hero in the real world. In the real world they would die and nobody would give a rats ass.

Then there is also the tone. These kind of movies don't treat the situation as a tragedy. They portray it as a underdog story where these young adults get to stick it to the nay sayer and beat the odds.

American military propaganda isn't as on the nose as it used to be anymore. They recognized that the blind patriotism they hooked people with in the past isn't working on the new generation. So they pander to them with other power fantasies.

That's what's so dangerous about these movies, yes they to critique the government in them to a certain degree, but that's by design. Blaming certain people in power rather then deeply examining the corruption of the entire system.

"It isn't the military that is extremely corrupt and doesn't give a crap about your well being. It's those big wigs in power. We are family here! We look out for eachother! You want to make a difference, join us! We definitely won't indoctornate you into a cult like mindset and then get rid of you if you become a prominent whistleblower!"

Propaganda is evolving people. A movie depicting soliders as action heros isn't suddenly not propaganda because there are asshole capitalist CEO like goverment heads they blame all the problems on and the seasoned military instructor who actually cares about the recruits can stand in contrast to.

Because the later does not exist. There isn't going to be someone who decides to train you to survive when the higher-ups say they shouldn't.
