The Way I See It

Fire

Look in a fire, what do you see? 

The warm yellow sunlight shining through the trees?

Or maybe the orange stands out to you

A tiger walking alone in a zoo

The fierce, bright red can always be seen

Like a ruby on the crown of a magnificent Queen.

All of the colors of a roaring fire

They walk around as if they are on clouds

but they are not clouds of white fluff and dreams

they are grey.  Grey clouds, clouded with

smoke and dust and terrible envious thoughts.  

Thoughts of jealousy and possession. 

Waiting under the tree

For you to unwrap with your

Dirty, quick moving fingers.

I want you to peel off

My paper with care.

Slowly untie my ribbon with delicate

Remember yesterday?

When I fell on the pavement

and skimmed my knees on 

the hot summer asphalt?

I didn't cry 

because my fresh pink skin

was sore. 

I cried because you

I always dreamed of changing

the world.  They said that

it was impossible. 

The wind lifted

Her off her knees, and

For a moment

In time

She was floating.

Breathless.

Weightless.

That same gust carried

Her on the breeze

Over the

Scorched

Deserts and through

The lengthy forest

Until she came across a

Running brook.

But then gravity pulled

On her chilled toes and finger

Tips, and placed

Her on the rocky bank

Of the silk smooth water

Shedding her raggedy clothing,

She released all of her pain

In the therapeutic sea of tears,

Your face rather reminds

Me of Alice’s Cheshire Cat.

Green eyes,

Slightly too big between

The ears,

And that gap toothed

Grin of yours…

That mysterious,

Mischievous

Grin.

I would really prefer it

If you would stop waging

Your head at my as if

You own wonderland.

You can’t physically

Place wonderland in

Your pocket, and therefore

You have no right to claim

It all for yourself you

Supercilious cat.

What’s yours is mine, and

What’s mine is yours and

Everyone else’s in this silly place.

Oh, there you go disappearing

On me again.  No surprise there.

You disappear only to fan in

The reaction of your reappearance.

But to be perfectly blunt, I wouldn’t
