Chasing the horizon……Dallas to points west!!!
Day 80 (2/2)
Camp Nowhere
Curious about Porguf's possible metal flower sighting, I hopped on my Bristleback once the storm had cleared and rode toward the Spinebreak. The delvers had been hard at work since I'd taken down the Rockbreaker within. The rubble had been cleared away, the path widened and set with lanterns. There was plenty of room for my Bristleback to barge on through—and thankfully there were no trading caravans coming the other way.
Out in the clearing, I found the vines Porguf had described on an overlook to the south. It was a metal flower alright, and behind it were caches of ancient salvage and a huge cluster of Greenshine.
Riding back through the Spinebreak, I continued north as evening blazed bright.

Day 81 (1/2)
The Grove
Kalla roused me before dawn as her and the other Arena handlers made preparations for my battle. I changed into the Sky Clan armour that Dukkah had given me, intimidating helmet and all, before Kalla told me what I'd be up against. Somehow, she and her squadmates had managed to wrangle a Tideripper. So, not quite bigger than a Slitherfang, but close enough. I'd be facing two Snapmaws as well, and as if that wasn't enough, the loadout Kalla gave me was downright pitiful. The only halfway decent weapon of the bunch was an explosive Spikethrower. If I didn't know any better I'd say Kalla was trying to get me killed.
I did have one technicality on my side, however: I was allowed to bring in my own traps. As dawn passed across the Arena, brightening the low, grey mists, I faced the roaring crowds and my three opponents.
I used shock traps to send the Snapmaws down while I concentrated on the big guy, using another shock trap and making liberal use of smoke bombs to keep them searching. I used my Spikethrower to damage the machines in the meantime, using further traps and a shock module on my spear to bolster the effect. The Snapmaws were finished fairly quickly in the barrage of electricity, but the Tideripper took some doing, the final blow coming from a volley of spikes that exploded spectacularly on impact, securing me the win.
It certainly was no great display of skill, but the spectacle of all the explosions and shock blasts got the crowd going. I returned to Kalla to receive my medals. Nearly enough now to snag one of Dukkah's prized weapons or pieces of armour.
Day 80 (1/2)
Devil's Grasp
After destroying the rebels' industrial overriding apparatus, I returned to the higher structures, finding a place to hide and get my bearings. The remaining rebels had exhausted their search of the grounds, and the sound of their huge battery sparking and smoking was difficult to ignore. A hulking rebel wielding an electrified hammer came bounding toward the ruckus, but I was waiting for him. With surprise on my side, I put him down without taking a scratch.
I killed a few more rebels still frantically searching for me, but kept a low profile before climbing up to a platform overlooking the underside of the Horus. The front entrance was gated off by sturdy boards, but the sides were left exposed. I jumped down with my spear aloft, taking a Tenakth Champion by surprise.
I set off a smoke bomb after that first strike, confusing the wounded Champion and nearby sharpshooter. I took them down in the smoke before ducking away, as a Sons of Prometheus operative took up a Deathbringer gun. I shot at him from behind cover, finding the scant gaps in his heavy armour, then stole his gun to ward off the rebels climbing in over the barriers, too late to defend their leaders. A couple rider-less Clawstriders still wandered around aimless in the grounds outside, but apart from that, so marked the end of Devil's Grasp.
It'd been a long and grueling ordeal, of mostly waiting for opportunities to strike as the night passed. Sun rose bright pink against the mountain peaks as morning took over. I spent an hour or so picking over the compound for further clues on future rebel plans. A recording from Asera stored on an Old World device spoke of plans to move all operations to a place called 'First Forge', where they would continue building out their army. I had apparently hastened this decision; Asera could no longer trust her operatives to keep their plans and supplies safe from a certain persistent Nora. Sounded like this 'First Forge' was hidden somewhere Asera was convinced I'd never find. I'll prove her wrong on that.
I also found a pile of dead Corrupters, harvested for their override modules, of course. The modified modules I'd seen fastened to the machine outside were stockpiled here as well. Lightweight, shaved down to their most crucial, bare components, and mass-produced. From the looks of the rebels' maps and plans, there were more bases I'd yet to encounter, spreading even beyond Tenakth territory. The more I learn about this whole operation, the bigger it gets. It seems like Sylens is always one step ahead.
