ChatGPT in particular has been so incredibly helpful in my writing process! It works perfectly in fueling my undying hatred for the slop plagiarism machine. Spite has been my singular motivator as I spend every day loathing the amount of AI covers and slop books flooding the market. AI has done what no motivational video on YouTube has managed to do: it has motivated me to sit my ass down and fucking write because I am a writer and'll be damned before I let some second hand thinker get the last laugh

Warning labels existed for that reason. If you don't like certain topics, don't go and look for them. If you don't like to read about incest, don't go look for an incest ship tag like sam/dean.

I really don't understand why they do this, and while there are some dark topics I don't enjoy, I don't get angry at people who write or enjoy it. It is just not for me, and I'm glad something like Ao3 exists.

And if you are reading something and suddenly a dark theme comes up, you can just stop reading and click that back button.

pretend you hired a gremlin or elf or something none human to write your first draft as quickly as possible. And then channel that creature while you are writing it (making it sloppy and just getting the story out)

then when your going back through it, treat it like the creature just hand-delivered it to you and it’s your first time seeing the work you hired them to do

“coming from a place of respect” there is nothing respectful about a comment like this. this is exactly why I say witch hunt, speculations and accusations harm the writing community as much as ai does, if not more.

I am not saying “you’re an asshole if you think a fic is ai”. I have come across fics that I believe were ai-generated. but instead of asking (accusing) the authors, I make my own decisions whether I’ll continue reading for the benefit of the doubt or quietly exit the fics and look for something else to read.

because with every accusation like this, there’s always a chance of a genuine, innocent writer getting wrongly accused.

last but not least, fanfic writers do NOT owe you anything. they write for themselves and their own enjoyment. their ao3 accounts are their houses and they were kind enough to let you in their houses. for free. (you get to read things for free.) you don’t go into other people’s houses and tell them “actually I think the way you decorate your room is sus. did you actually do it yourself or did you ask a robot to do it for you?”. THEY 👏🏻 DON’T 👏🏻 OWE 👏🏻 YOU 👏🏻 ANYTHING. and I say this as someone who is not a fan of ai fics. if you don’t like what you’re seeing, quietly leave.

Having my CPTSD triggered before 7am because what I thought would be a fun, quick, little read wasn't appropriately tagged really sucks.

Tags are NOT SPOILERS! They help people decide if your story is a good fit for them to read or not. I was not in the right headspace for the story I just read, and now I get to spend time trying to regulate my fucking nervous system instead of sleeping or reading something else or listening to music

Like what do you mean every single year the Harkers, the suitor squad and Van Helsing are forced to relive the worst year of their life

Sure they win in the end but over and over they are forced to loose the people they love, be striped of their personhood and fight what must have seemed like an impossible battle.

And nobody is even aware of this time loop except us and we just feed into this narrative. “Oh my friend Jonathan has just sent me another letter let’s hope this goes better than last year ;)”

And from a literary analysis standpoint this whole change is inane because it frames the book in an entirely new light. There is a meta layer of horror being applied to the book that was never possible before.

People who are against AI will never be your audience, and they are much more likely to not bother you about it if they can see it’s AI from the start and move along — or better yet, if they have the AI tags blocked and thus never stumble upon your writing at all

But people who are fine with reading something made by AI? They’re the people you want, and they’re the people who won’t be deterred by it. Nurture the right community for you, and everyone will be happier for it; you’ll face less antis, antis won’t read something they don’t want to read, and only people who don’t have an inherent problem with your content will see your content. What’s the benefit to pretending it’s not AI only to get people up in arms over it?
