thereās something really cute about how girls have a habit of trying to make anything difficult into a pleasant experience. like my new roommates just planned to get together to discuss contracts, but immediately suggested we do it with movies and nail-painting and chocolate. my friendsĀ and iĀ used to dress up and do fun makeup for our exams. whenever my mom took me to doctors appointments when i was a kid, sheād brush my hair and put it up with lots of cute clips. girls are always trying to make things softer, or reduce the everyday stress in life.Ā itās such a nice way to be.
āāWhen I was about 20 years old, I met an old pastorās wife who told me that when she was young and had her first child, she didnāt believe in striking children, although spanking kids with a switch pulled from a tree was standard punishment at the time. But one day, when her son was four or five, he did something that she felt warranted a spankingāthe first in his life. She told him that he would have to go outside himself and find a switch for her to hit him with. The boy was gone a long time. And when he came back in, he was crying. He said to her, āMama, I couldnāt find a switch, but hereās a rock that you can throw at me.ā All of a sudden the mother understood how the situation felt from the childās point of view: that if my mother wants to hurt me, then it makes no difference what she does it with; she might as well do it with a stone. And the mother took the boy into her lap and they both cried. Then she laid the rock on a shelf in the kitchen to remind herself forever: never violence. And that is something I think everyone should keep in mind. Because if violence begins in the nursery one can raise children into violence.āā

One time I kissed my girlfriend while we were out and a little girl looked at us with such amazement like
āThatās an option?!?!ā
me as a geologist: it was this damn ass rock

one time at a wax museum i thought one of the tour guides was a wax person cuz they were just standing there not moving so i go up to them like āwho the fuck is this supposed to beā then they just looked at me and laughed
everytime I hear about children of the corn I think about the guy I met at comic con who actually lived in the town they filmed that movie at, and on the farm where they filmed in the corn. he was a teenager at the time and him and his friends would get drunk on moonshine and rustle the corn and let the air out of the tires of the production teamās trailers and shit. and now thereās Wikipedia pages about how the children of the corn set was haunted and they thought they angered god but it was really just drunk hillbillies
I donāt like adding to posts but I also have a funny story like this, so I was watching the movie the Blair witch which takes place in burkettsville maryland, which to me is so funny because that is were my grandfather lives and the town is literally just old people and cows with their main street consisting of a post office. Well anyway he told me that after it came out people were coming in like bus loads to the town to find the witch and my grandfather lives up in the Mountain area and people were up in his property trying to find the witch and it made him angry so he went out and hung up stick people and stacked rocks and it freaked the people out so they started thinking something was out there when really it was my 80 year old Italian grandpa who wanted people out of his woods.
We had ghost hunters come to a historic house in my town to film and if you think every high school kid in town respectfully stayed at home that night instead of going to fuck up that filming youāre dead wrong.
this is comforting, actually, sometimes paranormal things are just a bunch of bored people dicking around in the woods.
New favorite cryptid: locals
who wants to hear the story about how a girl in my spanish 2 class fought back against the horrible spanish teacher and won
if this gets 2 notes i will tell it
one note is good enough for me.
so thereās this girl in my spanish 2 class. weāll call her kayla.
kayla is a sophomore. she is funny and outspoken and a little crazy. the main thing to remember about kayla is that she will stand up for herself when needed. and thatās why something happened with her and my spanish teacher.
weāll call my teacher miss irving. miss irving has been teaching spanish for 30 years. sheās a little forceful, hates technology, and hates when people donāt just listen to her without questioning it.
it began when kayla entered class late near the beginning of the school year. āsorry, maāam,ā she said to miss irving. āi was at the counselorās.ā
miss irving looked up at kayla and asked for a pass. kayla didnāt have one, but she said that miss irving would be able to call the counselor and the counselor would verify her visit. miss irving refused to do so and gave her detention on the spot. kayla started trying to justify her own actions, and she received yet another detention.
this marked the beginning of a long, long feud. every time kayla did something, miss irving would reprimand her for it. kayla put on chapstick or began to eat in class and miss irving began to yell. kayla read a paragraph slower than the rest of us and miss irving would snap at her. slowly, kayla began to get fed up.
the last straw for her was when she asked miss irving to go to the counselor during class, and it changed everything.
āmiss irving? i have an appointment with the counselor down the hall. may i go?ā
āobviously not,ā my teacher snapped back. āyou canāt leave in the middle of the class.ā
ābut i need to see her, i have an appointme-ā
āi donāt care. youāre going to translate that paragraph-ā
āmaāam, i already translated it-ā
āwell, then iāll give you more work to do-ā
āno.ā
at that word, all of the heads in the clasroom turned. itās an unspoken rule that you donāt say no to miss irving. but kayla had fire in her voice, and was now standing up and glaring at the teacher.
āexcuse me?ā miss irving responded, and kayla went off.
āno matter what i do, you get on to me about it. i have issues that i need to take care of that you refuse to understand. youāre a teacher. youāre supposed to care about us. itās your job! listen to me carefully: i. have. mental. health. problems. and there are times i need to eat in class or i need to go to the counselorās office because of it, so could you just get off of my ass about it and try to understand?ā
miss irving turned beet red and sent her to the principalās office.
what followed was a battle between the two. miss irving kept emailing kaylaās parents, but kaylaās parents took their daughterās side. then my teacher emailed kaylaās other teachers and asked them to take her side, but the other teachers said they didnāt ever have problems with kayla.
kayla went to talk to the principal about the situation and told her what was going on. the principal talked to miss irving, and miss irving lost her teacher of the year award for that year. she also received a strike on her teaching record for refusing to respect a studentās mental health protocol. and kayla won.
miss irving still teaches our class and we still have kayla with us. now, miss irving doesnāt hide her hatred for kayla at all. she expresses it fully to her other classes. and most of those other classes hate her as well.
but my class and i love kayla. because kayla has a newfound power, and she doesnāt take it for granted. instead, she uses it to help us.
and this matters so much to me because, one day, she helped me.
i have generalized anxiety disorder. one of the methods i can use to calm myself down is by doodling, and doodling also helps me listen more closely to the teacherās lesson. so i started doodling on the edges of my papers in spanish a lot, especially when we started having tests every class period and it became very anxiety-inducing for me.
miss irving started taking points off for every doodle i made. and i mean A LOT of points. i drew an eye in the corner of a worksheet once and i got an 80 instead of a 100. when i tried to explain that it was for my anxiety, she didnāt care. so now i had even more anxiety because i couldnāt reduce my anxiety.
one day, miss irving was lecturing and i was doodling, when she started to yell at me for it.
i canāt remember a lot about what happened because at that moment i went into a full blown panic attack. but what i do remember is kayla standing up and yelling at her.
āwhat are you doing? stop! sheās obviously having a panic attack!ā
she came over to my desk and led me through breathing exercises. calmed me down. told me my doodle of half a face looked really good, asked me how long iād been taking art and about my disorder. the entire class was silent, watching, and miss irving was fuming.
when i was calm enough to, i thanked kayla, and she squeezed my hand in a silent alliance.
then miss irving walked back to the whiteboard and never said anything about my doodles again.
the moral of the story? just because a teacher or principal or parent is older than you doesnāt mean they deserve to be obeyed no matter what. if what your āeldersā say to you or do to you belittles you, tears you down, or keeps you from being able to get help or be a better person, they are not doing their job, and you can stand up for yourself and others.
donāt be afraid to question the authority just because they say they shouldnāt be questioned.
Kaylaās a fucking hero
I had a date tonight with a girl Iāve been seeing and we were talking about tattoos and I mentioned wanting one of a bumblebee behind my ear and she stared at me for a second and then pulled back her hair and showed me a tattoo of a bumblebee behind her ear and lemme tell you if I didnāt believe in soulmates before I sure as hell do now thatās some next level shit
Iām telling you elephants are chill motherfuckers. They fucking love being helpful. They once defended a man with heatstroke from a truck that came to rescue him. They knew he was sick, laying against a tree for shade. They were watching over him and petting him, and they threatened to charge the vehicle for coming towards him. Another person passed out, and elephants cried over her and buried her body in a traditional elephant funeral. (Piling branches on her). And were quite spooked when she got up later. And an elephant was helping workers to put logs in holes for a wall. On one hole, the elephant absolutely refused to set the log in, despite being punished and goaded. Turns out there was a sleeping dog in the hole.
There are so many good elephants stories. They will even help zookeepers wash other elephantsā literally, a zookeeper can be likeĀ ā[Name 1], please wash [Name 2]ā and he will go wash that elephant correctly. Listen guys. Not only are elephants people, but theyāre largely better people than us. Iām 10000% serious.

My roomba is scared of thunderstorms
I was sitting at my desk just a few minutes ago, drawing, and a really loud crack of thunder went offāno power surges or anything, just thunderāand my roomba fled from its dock and started spinning in circles
I currently now have an active roomba sitting quietly on my lap
Humans will pack bond with anything.Ā
I had a teenage girl come into my tea shop with her mother the other night. She purposely grabbed a teamaker in the most crunched-up looking box on the shelf (got banged around in shipment) and carried it protectively over to the counter. āIf somethingās in a damaged box I have to get it because Iām afraid no one else will love it,ā she laughed nervously.
Not only will humans pack bond with anything, the empathy level of adolescent girls in particular likely has puppy-saving, world hunger-solving, war-ending powers.
I once saw a really bumpy lime at the grocery store, just a real ugly fruit. Later that night my boyfriend & I were driving home from rehearsal at like 11:30pm & passed the grocery store & I stared crying & he said āis it that lime? Do you want to go back and get it?ā And I nodded and pulled the car around and bought the lime.
I saw this post once but IT GOT EVEN BETTER
If someone is wearing makeup in the pool, donāt deliberately splash them. If someone has done their hair nicely, donāt mess it up. If someone in a t-shirt has scars on their arms, donāt ask them about it. If someone doesnāt want to get in the water, donāt push them. If someone still wants to wear jeans, donāt laugh at them for it. If someone has sweat patches, donāt point them out. If someoneās chest is obviously prominent, donāt stare. If you can see someoneās underwear/ binder, donāt comment on it. If someone is blatantly covering something up, donāt try to reveal it.
Not everyone can feel totally comfortable with the fact itās Summer, donāt make them feel worse.
this is so important
Friend: why are you crying?

Just called my new boss by the wrong name in a meeting in front of everyone
What happened next??
Awkward silence from everyone
Nobody corrected me. I eventually found out a few mins later when someone called him by the right name
Call him by the wrong name again, but a different one than you just used.
Call him by the same wrong name again but forcefully and with eye contact. Youāre the boss now.
Introduce yourself by his name and call him by your own name. Youāre the boss now.
I will never forget the time I asked a little girl how old she was and she said ā6 but Iāve been alive like 30 yearsā
