no but the same way that phones and laptops are guilty of scheduled obsolescence, entertainment conglomerates, and to some extent even regular writers just trying to âmake it bigâ, are treating stories as though theyâre meant to have a built-in expiration date. itâs the obsession with plot twists that ultimately mean nothing, itâs shock for shockâs sake, itâs the way spoilers are treated as inherently experience-ruining. stories are written for the first viewing and the first viewing only, because after youâve seen something once, why would you want to see it again? so it doesnât matter if it doesnât hold up on a second viewing or if the entire plot is ruined if you go into it knowing a single detail. youâre only going to care once, arenât you?
but like. is that really true? is it really true that an experience with a piece of art is only worth having once? is it really not worth it to create something that will be loved enough that its lovers come back to it? thatâs so much
Hey iâm a fashion design student so i have tons and tons of pdfs and docs with basic sewing techniques, pattern how-tos, and resources for fabric and trims. Iâve compiled it all into a shareable folder for anyone who wants to look into sewing and making their own clothing. Iâll be adding to this folder whenever i come across new resources
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16uhmMb8kE4P_vOSycr6XSa9zpmDijZSd?usp=sharing
Updated just now with new hand sewing resources (mainly buttonholes) and textbook pdfs on fashion history, fashion illustration, and thinking through designs!
iâve started replacing âi want to dieâ with âi feel overwhelmedâ in my internal monologue, which is usually more accurate and more productive
ive been working on replacing âim so stupidâ with âim so sillyâ and it has the same effect!
âI canât do thisâ -> This will be a challenge for me, itâs normal to feel intimidated
âI hate thisâ -> This is a tough situation to handle and Iâm doing my best
âI hate myselfâ -> Iâm struggling with low self esteem right now, I need to support myself as I would a friend
âI canât believe I forgot againâ -> Itâs tough to balance so many things, maybe I need to let go of some of them
âTheyâre not going to like meâ -> I donât have to perform for anyone, my personality is valid and loveable just as is
The list could go on and onâŚ
Redirecting the âblameâ from yourself and recognizing that you are a human suffering through normal, difficult human experiences is important. Support yourself like youâd support any of your close friends if they said these things.
I canât tell you how delighted I am to see Actual Scripted Examples!
Iâve known I need to modify my self-talk like this for three+ years, and Iâve been trying for that long, but I never know what to replace it with. So the examples are super incredibly helpful, thank you so much. ~<333
For me, replacing âIâm so stupid!â was the hardest I think. changing it to âsillyâ didnât really occur to me as thatâs basically the same but less harsh (a good step in the right direction, for sure).
anyway I really interrogated when & why I said this to myself & figured out it was when I made some kind of mistake, be it dropping something or even just *remembering getting on the wrong bus in 2004* or sth, & I instinctively felt like I was going to be punished so I sort of pre-emptively punished myself by calling myself âstupidâ.
realising that helped lessen the impulse, and I replaced it with âIâm allowed to make mistakes.â and âIâm fine. itâs fine, itâs not a big dealâ. âI can fix this/ figure it out.â

Word of Honor ă幹河䝤ă | episode 6 vs episode 37
Hereâs the thing. Practical self-care, such as showering, feeding yourself, talking a walk, cleaning your space, getting rest, ect. will not solve every problem you have. Especially the big, serious ones. But it will solve a ton of smaller problems that are building up, adding to your stress, and using the energy you need to cope with those big serious problems.
You can feel as awful as you want, just eat a sandwich first.
I think thereâs this little instinct we have that rejects solutions to our problems if I feel better after getting my sandwich that means my problems are less valid and therefore if I want my pain to be REAL it canât be relieved in any way which is nonsense the reason why my problems feel smaller when I take care of myself is that I have more energy to cope with them and thatâs a GOOD thing The whole âoh must be nice to think that getting outside cures depressionâ movement is not in my opinion a victim complex so much as itâs a âIâm in pain and when you try to give me an easy solution it feels like youâre not listening to meâ reactionÂ

I was baking a strawberry shortcake for my mom when I realized that I forgot the baking powder. I began to panic so I pulled the cakes out of the oven; they were already completely baked but they rose just fine without the baking powder? I was staring at them in confusion, trying to remember if I accidentally put yeast in the batter, when I felt a shadow loom over me. I looked over my shoulder only to find Luigi. Luigi tenderly took my hands and told me, âYou need not worry, for I will accompany you in any and all of your baking endeavors.â I have never felt more loved in my life. I cried.
I thought this was the mother of all shitposts and then I saw the url
why do i never see the url?
No one reads urls on tumblr. Which actually works out well for the one-time-i-dreamt tumblr posts, I think, because just like the original person, we are not aware at first that we are inside the dream. And then at some point â usually towards the end when things have gotten weird enough that itâs clear this canât resolve properly before the end of the post â we check the url and understand, much like a sleeper waking up. Once something goes up on one-time-i-dreamt it becomes a dream we all experience, together.

anyone else get embarrassed when their self indulgent daydreams are like too self-indulgent? like oh jeez the telepaths are going to judge me
yall with your ugly celeb man crushes
This is a powerful child.
I have ⌠a tip.
If youâre writing something that involves an aspect of life that you have not experienced, you obviously have to do research on it. You have to find other examples of it in order to accurately incorporate it into your story realistically.
But donât just look at professional write ups. Donât stop at wikepedia or webMD. Look up first person accounts.
I wrote a fic once where a character has frequent seizures. Naturally, I was all over the wikipedia page for seizures, the related pages, other medical websites, etc.
But I also looked at Yahoo asks where people where asking more obscure questions, sometimes asked by people who were experiencing seizures, sometimes answered by people who have had seizures.
I looked to YouTube. Found a few individual videos of people detailing how their seizures usually played out. So found a few channels that were mostly dedicated to displaying the daily habits of someone who was epileptic.
I looked at blogs and articles written by people who have had seizures regularly for as long as they can remember. But I also read the frantic posts from people who were newly diagnosed or had only had one and were worried about another.
When I wrote that fic, I got a comment from someone saying that I had touched upon aspects of movement disorders that they had never seen portrayed in media and that they had found representation in my art that they just never had before. And I think itâs because of the details. The little things.
The wiki page for seizures tells you the technicalities of it all, the terminology. It tells you what can cause them and what the symptoms are. It tells you how to deal with them, how to prevent them.
But it doesnât tell you how some people with seizures are wary of holding sharp objects or hot liquids. It doesnât tell you how epileptics feel when theyâve just found out that theyâre prone to fits. It doesnât tell you how their friends and family react to the news.
This applies to any and all writing. And any and all subjects. Disabilities. Sexualities. Ethnicities. Cultures. Professions. Hobbies. Traumas. If you havenât experienced something first hand, talk to people that have. Listen to people that have. Donât stop at the scholarly sources. They donât always have all that you need.
I ⌠LOVE reading the replies and tags for this post! Iâm happy that, out of all my posts, this is the one thatâs blown up so quickly.Â
I love the people who are a part of a minority, that are gushing about their favorite fics or books that seem to have done this and offer proper representation.Â
I love the people who are bringing up the toxic mindset that is very popular on tumblr, the âyou canât write about it if you havenât lived itâ ideology that makes writers feel guilty for providing representation.
I especially love the people who are mentioning how they should start doing this. I love the people who are probably young or inexperienced writers that are seeing this and thinking of doing this for the first time. I love that there are people who read this and then think to better their writing because of it.
This is fantastic advice and it also dovetails with a common misconception about the âwrite what you knowâ idea.
Write what you know isnât about writing only things you have directly experienced yourself, but thatâs what a lot of people teach it as.
Itâs actually about writing anything you know. Emotions, stories, loves, jobs, special interests.
You might write about the pain of heartbreak because you know what itâs like to have your heart broken. Or you might write a story about dementia because you know the tragedy of watching a loved struggle with a neurodegenerative disease. Maybe you share the utter joy that it is to help someone that you donât know, for no reward, because youâve done that and you know how good it feels.
When youâre writing about experiences you havenât had, looking to those little details and trying to represent real lived experiences does more than just add verisimilitude to your work, it tells people who have those experiences that you care about listening to them and representing their experiences truthfully.
