Me opening tumblr to discover children whining about đ§ VAMPIRES đ§ being bad âPEOPLE â
I cannot believe the characters are assholes, cried the man watching the asshole characters show
look me in the eye and tell me that youâd rather have gabriella, the son molester, portrayed as trans.
sometimes we need to stop and think about the impact culture and politics have on art AND vice versa. i, personally, as a trans person, donât think we need to add fuel to the âtrans people are perverts and pedophiles and rapistsâ fire. i think some things are simply more important than staying true to the source material. fight me on my lawn about it.
and to be clear, iâm not saying definitively that thatâs what rolin jones + co had in mind when they tweaked her character. like we donât really know, and there are still 4 episodes to go. anything could happen re: the reliability of lestatâs portrayal of her. but this circular argument is getting frustrating. letâs maybe just try to trust the writers of the show weâre not even halfway through yet
if you don't do anything else today,
Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.
have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.
and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.
black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.
if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
This is Juneteenth.
white people CAN interact with this post. share it, spread it.

All Iâm gonna say is that if my high school had a tradition where everyone drew stuff on each other (which Iâm honestly surprised they didnât cause it sounds like exactly the kind of stupid shit we would do) there 100% wouldâve been very offensive things written on each other and one of those things would probably be a swastika (and it probably wouldâve been drawn on a jewish person just cause my school had a lot of jewish people). When I found of that that was the story behind the photos some specific people I knew immediately came to mind as someone who wouldâve probably done that. Tbh I wouldnât be surprised if I (again, a jewish person) ended the night with a swastika drawn on me because thatâs the kind of fucked up shit that teenagers (especially white teenage boys) think is funny because itâs ââedgyââ or whatever. As one of the only latino kids in my school I also wouldnât be surprised if I ended the night with spic written across my forehead. (And I am not saying itâs alright that people would do that because itâs not but I am saying that it wouldâve happened because thatâs the kind of world we live in.) And for the people saying he shouldâve washed it off (which he couldnât have done if he didnât know it was there) I really want you to think about what it would be like to be the one person who âcouldnât take a jokeâ or âruined the funâ especially if youâre already a token minority. The amount of people who would make fun of you or even be legitimately mad at you would suck because as a teenager being ostracized feels terrible. So yeah, is it good that he had a swastika drawn on him? Of course not. But do I completely understand why it happened? Absolutely
people are saying he broke up with his girlfriend because of some insta story he posted. ngl id be pissed if people dragged my partner into stuff that publicly too.
đ¤Śââď¸ everyone start getting fucking normaler!!!! now!!!!!!
the level of entitlement is so insane. like no he's not gonna break up w his gf (whom he only speaks so fondly of every time she's mentioned) bc u want him to get w his coworker. are you 12
Not to overgeneralize but I feel like RPF shipping is why we canât have nice things. Like sure there are some that are responsible about it, but it seems the worst ones are the loudest rudest and insane people. Why canât we keep fandom space in fandom space? Why do we gotta yell at and mock those that are tangentially connected to our stars because they arenât fitting a mold they crafted in their own heads? Insanity.
I've never really liked rpf in any sense, but I am of the opinion that people are allowed to think what they want and create what they want, and hudcon are so openly affectionate for each other and clearly love and respect each other so much in a way that's not seen in today's society (which they've both spoken about and confirmed is platonic, they're both very affectionate people and we see that with their other friends too) but yes, of course, rpf is gonna find them. in what world would it not?
and I'm not going to pretend that I've not made posts/tagged stuff calling them soulmates or a bonded pair or whatever the fuck, I never look at an image of matt damon and ben affleck without instinctively saying "which could mean nothing" - which I'm aware falls into rpf territory, but the most important thing is and always should be keeping anything related to rpf completely separate to the real living people
yes, they're celebrities, and with that comes a certain level of loss of privacy. people are going to talk about you, they are going to speculate, they're aware of that and connor has basically removed all traces of his personal life from the internet because of it! but not only are these rpfers still invading hudcons spaces, they're also going after anyone related to them, especially hudson's gf katelyn, which is never, ever okay
these are the people that give fandom a bad name. these are the people that give rpf a bad name (because im fully aware that it's not all of them doing this). and these are the people that are going to drive these celebrities to their breaking point, and they will have no one to blame but themselves when hudson inevitably follows connor and completely removes his non professional life from the internet for good
RPF
"Saying don't write RPF is censorship"
HUDSON WILLIAMS himself asked people to stop writing RPF. It's not hypothetical. He's a real human being and he asked the community to stop. It's about him. He is not a made up character, he is a real living breathing person and if you really do love and respect him like you claim to, you will respect his wishes.
"Keep it in fandom spaces"
yes except he is also gen z and all over the internet and should feel safe there. He has every right to use tumblr or twitter or fucking AO3 if he wants and not see himself represented there in ways he doesn't want. And he doesn't want it. Period. He's telling you that. Maybe you didn't know before that he felt that way. But you fucking know now.
You and your creative desires are not more important than him. So many times, we've seen celebrities talk about how fandom culture is bad for their health. RPF destroyed Louis' and Harry's relationship and I will never forgive myself for reading that stuff even though I didn't write it. We did that. Ten years later I saw history repeat itself with the Stray Kids guys. I was so fucking devastated for them. Not only did RPF and obsessive fan culture destroy the friendship between the Untamed guys, it got AO3 fucking nuked in China and they lost the entire site.
You may not think you're those people. You're keeping it on Tumblr and Twitter and AO3, and not tagging Hudson, right? But Hudson should also be allowed on those websites. He shouldn't have to watch where he goes on the internet because there are people making him do and say things he doesn't want to have done or said all over the internet. The written RPF probably feels about as violating as a deepfake video. He gets to decide what he says and does. Only him. And even if YOU post something only on Tumblr, who knows who is going to share it elsewhere and tag him because people have no boundaries.
He said to stop. Just stop, please.
(Connor didn't say it, but we all know he doesn't want it either. You do not have plausible deniability here. You know better.)
I really hate when ppl are like "well [famous person] shouldn't be in fan spaces" when it comes to stuff like this. You are literally talking about that person and their life. Your "space" being public platforms where you are talking about a real person and their relationships and life??
You just dehumanize these people, and dont allow / want them to, like, Have Feelings And Boundaries about how YOU speak of them & their PERSONAL relationships. Why do people feel so completely entitled to these guys. Idk why you dont just pick up a book (preferably a different one, with no adaption or real people involved) if ur so obsessed with treating real ppl like fictional beings đ
Ten years ago even, the argument that famous people shouldnât be in fan spaces might have held more weight, but now, thereâs no barrier between fandom spaces and non fandom spaces. People use every social media for fandom now and people are posting their opinions on peopleâs fics on main for engagement and tweets are being screenshot and put in published think pieces and reporters are asking famous people what their thoughts are on whatever fandom trend and then you have shit like Buzzfeed (I think it was buzzfeed?) calling Connor âMrs. Hudson Williamsâ like? What do you mean famous people shouldnât be in fandom spaces? Show me a non fandom space they can be in.
Never mind the fucking entitlement of people saying shit like âget out of my houseâ like he doesnât have the right to have opinions on people making shit up about him for their own entertainment. People are acting so bewildered by this as if this isnât exactly what happens every time an rpf fandom gets big enough and inappropriate enough that the people they ship learn about it. Iâve said before that I donât see any point policing (like, legally policing or censoring) rpf, and I do think itâs possible to ethically rpf, but even with ethical rpf you canât expect someone to be indifferent to hundreds of people quite literally treating them like a fictional character that exists for their entertainment. I would be amazed if anybody could feel neutral about knowing there are people out there writing erotica of them with their best friend. And with Hudson, heâs been about as cool about this as you could hope for, and for as long as I think most could stand. His primary concern seems to be how people view his relationship with his girlfriend - I mean, imagine if you were in love with somebody and every day you knew she was seeing people talk about how youâre unhappy with her, how youâre using her as a beard, how you want to break up with her, and how youâre probably cheating on her and oh yeah sheâs being stalked and harassed like! Of Fucking Course He Does Not Like That. And this isnât even getting into some of the more fucked up shit rpfers write or say (I saw a h*dcon fic once about Hudson raping Connor ffs like is it fiction? Yeah. Do I think it would be really fucking weird to expect Hudson to feel neutral about its existence? YEAH).
Hudson has a right to be online. If youâre a real fan, you want him to be online. Six months ago he was nobody and now heâs walked the fucking met gala. He reached an extremely understandable breaking point. Nobody could expect someone in his position, who has gone through such a drastic change to his life in such a short time, to already be used to this and already capable of coping without showing any external signs itâs affecting him. Itâs insane to expect otherwise, and on top of that, all he said is itâs gotta stop. He wasnât even being cruel or harsh. Like you do not use the words âgottaâ and âyâallâ if youâre being harsh. It was a very calm and very understanding request for people to stop. People calling him unprofessional for it or saying he needs media training when his response is that contained are just being willfully fucking ignorant.
Now theyâre being hateful to Hudson by saying the person he responded to wasnât even doing rpf (whichâŚidk), and insinuating that the backlash theyâve faced is his fault. The backlash theyâre facing is awful and racially charged and I feel terrible for them and if people were saying, hey, he should have just made a statement on his own social media, not in response to anybody, that would be one thing, but theyâre just saying he shouldnât be online altogether now because he âshouldnât be in fandom spaces.â Itâs so obvious that person he responded to isnât their real concern. They celebrated his behavior online when it fueled their rpf, but now that itâs not, suddenly his behavior online is a problem. They went from âHudson please never get media trainedâ (ignoring that he does have media training) to âSomeone needs to take his phone awayâ the second he set a very polite and simple boundary. Theyâre just done playing with him now that heâs made it clear he doesnât like being their toy.
And while Iâm here, Iâll say that I do think, obviously, it would have been better for him to just make a blanket statement and not in response to anybody specific - but at the same time, itâs really obvious that he snapped. Like, this didnât come out of nowhere. This has been brewing. Something heâs tried to hold back, especially after initially making efforts to take it in stride. And people forget, but he made more palatable efforts to get people to stop before. At the pre Oscar party he told a reporter that his girlfriend âdidnât want to be perceivedâ for example, which was a very clear hint that rpf shit was getting to both of them and that he wished it would stop. No one took the hint so of course it eventually escalated to a more explicit âstop it.â I run a mildly (if that) popular fandom blog and sometimes something makes me snap and I regret it later but it fucking happens and I canât fucking imagine being in his position, as famous as he now is and as quickly as he got there, and expecting him to never snap. Iâd be snapping daily if I was him. Heâs fucking human and what heâs upset over is something no one has any right to blame him for snapping over.
They pushed him to this and now theyâre mad at him for it. If Iâve learned one thing about this, itâs that rpfers canât take accountability for anything. Nothing is their responsibility to them. Nothing is ever even partially their fault. They are never the ones who have to examine their behavior.

Also this is late and petty but the people mocking Hudsonâs makeup at the met are particularly funny to me because oh you think you know so much about makeup and you canât even tell that it was intentionally messy as part of the story of his look and here you are critiquing it for not being perfect when the theme is costume art and the point theyâre making with that theme is that fashion is art and idk I think maybe that despite being so interested in fashion and so knowledgeable about it youâre exposing that actually fashion isnât art to you, itâs just about looking good. Hmm. Anyway.
In light of recent incidents of people getting way too comfy RPFing and conspiracy-boarding in broad daylight and breaching fandom containment, here are some very important things to remember about people in healthy relationships:
They aren't nearly as possessive of their partners as some folks presume.
They don't always enjoy public affection, especially around strangers and important people.
They aren't always straight and sometimes neither are their partners.
Some are in happy, consciously non-monogamous relationships and also emotionally committed to their partners - the two don't need to be mutually exclusive and, for many people, they aren't.
They don't want or need to be their partner's only or primary source of emotional intimacy.
They don't want or need to have their partner's constant attention and focus just to feel secure in the relationship.
They don't want or need to be included in everything their partner does because they have their own things going on.
They don't get jealous of or feel threatened by their partner's friends and acquaintances without a clear and compelling reason to feel this way.
If they feel ignored or neglected by their partner for whatever reason, they bring it up with them directly and privately.
They feel safe and comfortable talking to their partner if they're angry or hurt or if they feel like their boundaries are being crossed.
They are not obligated to perform their relationship publicly in any way if they don't want to.
Their business is their own - they can share it with as many or as few people as they want, but no one is entitled to know anything that's not freely shared.
in light of recent rpf discussion just want to say to non-rpfs trying to discuss hudcon with people who genuinely think they are in a secret relationship: block them
if they wonât stop when they say theyâre best friends, when hudson has a gf, when hudson says to stop shipping them (on main) then they wonât stop if connor starts dating someone, if hudson gets married and if in ten years where they are barely seen together in public bc there was think pieces written about how âtheir body language/similar clothing/dream I had last week confirms it!â every time they are in the same vicinity as each other
this is the context for the hudson stuff from yesterday https://www.threads.com/@joannafashion23/post/DYAFJogjasK
Grabbed some SSs thanks anon!

my biggest problem with people saying they didn't like hudson's met gala makeup and with people trying to "fix" it is that in the majority of instances I've seen they try to make it more sharp or symmetrical or clean and it pisses me off so much because. okay. take my hand. let's examine why you have such a negative reaction to a makeup that escapes the norm of what "correct" makeup should look like. why is it important for you that makeup is symmetrical. is it because it is mainly used as a tool to appear more attractive? why are you so upset about the rejection of this norm. why are you so opposed to transgressions of an artistic character. take my hand. be free of the societal expectations. oh my god.
