This is a picture of a cis woman, y’all are literally just racist
TERFS DID THIS TO ME ON TUMBLR. I got an anon telling me I passed terribly. like. I'm literally cis and by telling me I do not pass, you are showing that you view womanhood in ways that are not only regressive for trans folk but also regressive and harmful for the very cis women you claim to support and prioritize. They uphold the very beauty and gender performative standards they seek to diminish. Fuck terfs.
Daily reminder that TERFism has roots in both fascism (eugenics, patriarchal gender performance) and white supremacy (euronormative standards of beauty and biology) and is by no means a viable form of feminism.
Cavemen didn't have clocks yet, so it was a mystery to them why the sun suddenly started setting and rising an hour later or earlier when daylight savings changed over. Now we know.
yeah u freaks up north look and sound exactly like this when u pretend that us southern queers are perfectly complicit in our own eradication - for the heinous crime of not living in a liberal population center.
I keep this image on hand for whenever I see similar sentiments.
See also: "just leave!!! Why don't you leave!!!" Ok sure. Let me abandon all of my friends, my family, people who depend on me for help, my entire support network, job, resources, and all of the places I have ever loved so I can rent a closet in a city in a blue state that still has active Nazi chapters with no guarantee of a job.
This is my fucking home. Moreover, some of us actually like rural living. We shouldn't have to forsake everything we love about our way of life for y'all to consider us worthy of care and respect.
Hm. I'm not done actually.
Voter suppression is a big thing here. Greg Abbott and Ted Cruz don't fuckin speak for me. The only way to combat it is to fight back. If everybody y'all considered 'worth saving' were magically able to up and leave, that would still mean that a generations of people with no resources and no one to help them would continue to be born.
Legitimately I am so fuckin proud of NYC, of Minnesota, of everybody who comes together to fight back when fascism comes knocking. But if y'all can't bring that same energy for us, why should we do that for you? If all you have for us is pity and derision, why should we show up for you?
I know y'all are not your government. I don't look at every northerner or Californian or what have you and assume y'all agree with the worst and noisiest of your politicians. I don't even assume any of you are spineless NIMBY bay area brainrotted neolibs who are content to sacrifice trans rights in order to maintain the status quo like so much of the modern Democratic party.
So why would y'all look at us and decide there is nothing about the south worth saving and loving?
That's no way to treat a neighbor.
ALL. OF. THIS.

HAPPY PRIDE
Ummm she's literally sensitive :/
Far from what I once was // Not yet what I am going to be
When my son was about to turn two, strangers would offer condolences. There’s a collective cultural dread of toddlers, who get described more like animals than people. Kids in their "terrible twos," I was warned, are illogical, unregulated, and feral. "Good luck," people would say. "He'll grow out of it."
I'm lucky: My son is a very easygoing kid. But I remember the first tantrum he threw for me. He was standing by our front door and asked to go outside. So I opened the door and grabbed his shoes. But as soon as he stepped onto the porch, he pointed back into the house.
"Inside," he said.
"Okay," I said. I picked him up and brought him inside.
But as soon as I shut the front door, he pointed outside.
"Outside!" he said.
You know where this is going. We went back and forth, inside and outside, again and again. He got more frustrated. And I got more frustrated. Eventually he wound up straddling the threshold of our house, sobbing. When I tried to comfort him, he screamed at me. "You go wherever you want!" I said. He just got madder. I felt trapped, convinced he’d concocted the whole episode as a pretext to unleash his rage at me. It was ridiculous. I consoled myself with the thought that he was just being a toddler.
But later I kept thinking about him wailing at our front door, one foot inside, one foot outside. His misery wasn't unreasonable, or trivial, or silly. My son was experiencing the agony of wanting two things that were impossible to have at the same time. What a fundamentally human sorrow! My son wasn't being a toddler; he was being a person. Adults may not walk around howling, but that same pain rages within us. In that moment, as a father, I was powerless to solve my son's problem. I told him he could go wherever he wanted, but of course I was wrong. To be where he wanted was impossible.

alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
under 18, AI is a net positive
under 18, AI is a net negative
18-29, AI is a net positive
18-29, AI is a net negative
30-45, AI is a net positive
30-45, AI is a net negative
46-60, AI is a net positive
46-60, AI is a net negative
over 60, AI is a net postive
over 60, AI is a net negative
Question 2/3
How often do you visit or interact with museums/archives (whether in person or online)?
Frequently (multiple times per month)
Often (multiple times per year)
Occasionally (a couple times per year)
Rarely (once every couple of years)
Never :(
Question 3/3
If you saw a museum was using AI in exhibits, marketing, research, etc., would you be more or less inclined to visit that museum?
under 18, more inclined
under 18, less inclined
18-29, more inclined
18-29, less inclined
30-45, more inclined
30-45, less inclined
46-60, more inclined
46-60, less inclined
over 60, more inclined
over 60, less inclined
Thank you for helping with this data collection. Please rb for as big a sample as possible!

happy pride to Black lesbians and Black trans women!
At 1 PM on a Friday I get an email from my boss. I'm busy as hell so I don't check it immediately. Then I get a phone call from my boss, which has almost never happened before. I'm a white collar worker, a historian. There's never a 'historical emergency' requiring a phone call to kick me in the ass and get to work.
The request is so urgent my boss needs it by the end of the work week. Which, y'know, is 5 PM on a Friday. So I have four hours to do it.
It's a forwarded request. Somebody contacted a member of the donation team asking for help, "I need a map from the Vietnam War to use for a presentation." It's somebody she's trying to coax into giving a five figure donation to the museum.
The request was asked to the donation team member, who then emailed my boss, who then emailed and called me urgently.
This map required:
North and South Vietnam in it
All four areas that South Vietnam was divided into for military purposes ('Corps') clearly delineated
Four cities, all of them horrifically misspelled, and only identifiable because I know what battle the requester is asking about (it’s in III Corps on the border with Cambodia) (the requester danced around the battle but I’m knowledgeable enough to identify it)
Has Laos and Cambodia in it
Has the Ho Chi Minh Trail in it
So. I was mad about the 'you have literally four hours to find a map with a lot of requirements.'
I was then mad at myself about finding a copyright free map from Texas Tech University within half an hour, proving her right for asking me to do it.
Then, after I found a map that perfectly met the requirements, I was equally amazed, baffled, and horrified when I read further into the forwarded email chain.
The donation team team member they were speaking to used AI to generate a map.
The above put half of North Vietnam in South Vietnam, made the Ho Chi Minh Trail a country, made 60% of Cambodia part of South Vietnam, put the DMZ extremely high up in North Vietnam, completely disconnected the southern tip of Vietnam, misplaced all of the Corps zones, etc etc
At the very last second the donation team member had a moment of divine clarity, remembering there's three historians on payroll to ask for this kind of thing from. So she contacted my boss while saying, "I had fun with this, but I decided I should check for accuracy before I send it to the donor! I need a fact check by the end of the day, then I send it"
My boss, while not the most knowledgeable on the Vietnam War, does know her geography. She took one look, and knew it was so off she called me to tell me how urgent it is that I look at the email and respond
good fucking god, jesus tap dancing goddamn christ, I'm glad I was asked to look at it and then find a real map
My fear has never been that AI would replace human intelligence. My fear has been that the people who Know Things and the people who Make The Decisions are almost never the same people.
We’re throwing real intelligence out on the street to starve while worshipping the shambling Frankenstein-ed corpse of knowledge puppeteered by those who see us as disposable assets.

i'm not a spuhura hater and i think uhura and spock being together in the kelvin timeline was really sweet. i don't really agree w the people that say that she was relegated to being just spock's girlfriend.
that being said. i do think jj abrams continued the legacy of not giving uhura's character the same complexity as her male counterparts. personally i could've forgiven him for her character in star trek (2009) if she had loosened up and become a little more like TOS uhura in the following movies.
in the 2009 movie she's smart and stubborn and fierce, yes. and i do think TOS uhura is like that to a certain extent. except TOS uhura is also incredibly kind, and a joyous person who bursts into singing when she's happy. she's a lot softer around the edges.
it wouldve made sense if uhura in the 2009 movie had a hard shelled exterior. she was just about to graduate, she was nervous, she didn't trust jim, she was scared or worried during the narada incident, etc etc. it would've made sense if AFTER that, during the 2013 and 2016 movies, if her character had mellowed out a bit more. like obviously there's not a lot of room for any characters in those movies that aren't spock or jim but like. the small glimpses of her character loosening up wouldve been nice to see :(
