Churro French Toast Casserole with Mexican Chocolate Drizzle
Yâall know when Mulan is sitting in the rain and watches her parents silhouette disappear as the candle is blown out and then her eyes squint in determination and the music that starts to play and you see her go into the family temple and light a match and bow in respect and then sneak into her parents room and switch the scroll for her hair brooch and then the way her reflection is shown as she pulls the sword and cuts her hair?? Itâs literally more iconic than any marvel movie
Yâall know that there is heavy symbolism in that scene to show that Mulan is the spirit of the Great Stone Dragon and thatâs why Mushu wasnât able to awaken it?
im sorry What!! i never knew this! my life feels fuller!!! ahhhh
Mulan sits in the rain underneath the statue of the Great Stone Dragon (who is looking down on her), and suddenly decides on a course of action. She looks up, resolved to go to war in place of her father and runs into the temple where she lights the match and beseeches protection for her family. The stone she bows to and that we see lit up by lightening strike is that of the dragon, whose eyes are looking out after her, lit from underneath by the candles. The scene transitions to the divider in the house that also has an icon of the dragon. where she replaces her hair comb with the summons. Then we see the sword hilt, also the dragon, and as she draws the blade we see her face replace it. She ties up her hair, then as she opens the wardrobe, the handles are also the dragon. After donning the armor, the view shows her facing us, with the hilt of the sword (the face of the dragon) in front of her face, where she then turns the sword to reveal her face, and sheaths it. As she leaves, we flash back to the temple, and the eyes of the dragon flash as her grandmother wakes up.
The Great Stone Dragon resides within her. She is the protector of the family.
After this explanation, the scene where Mushu cannot wake up the stone dragon makes so much more sense. I appreciate the symbolism so much more. I noticed the dragon but didnât notice she was constantly juxtaposed with the dragon!
Canon accepted.

A representation of my thought process at all times
this is literally how teenagers talk irl
colorado gothic
- all the ski lifts starting running by themselves one day and they donât ever stop. they run day and night, except for on october 17th. no one knows why, but everyone has accepted this as normal.
- youâve been driving around highlands ranch for three hours. youâve passed the same community pool four times. the roads and houses all look the same. every person you see outside wears the same polo shirt. you wonder if youâll ever get out.
- youâre looking for a restaurant you know you ate at last week, but everyone you ask for directions looks at you with hollow eyes and says it was replaced with a weed shop two years ago.
- as you drive past the blue mustang statue in front of the airport, its red eyes follow you. you swear you see it blink. you feel an enormous feeling of dread. when you get to the airport, it is strangely empty.
- music comes from the direction of red rocks every night, but no band has played there in years. one night you went to see what made the noise. you donât remember what you saw, but you refuse to go back.
- your family decided to take a drive to the mountains to look at the leaves changing color. the sky has been sunset-orange for six hours. youâre certain youâre lost.Â
- youâve seen the exact same picture of the exact same sunset on everyoneâs snapchat for two weeks, but itâs been rainy and cloudy for a month. you think theyâre just trying to remember the sun.
- the hallways of every ski lodge look the same no matter what town youâre in. you canât find your room and you canât find the lobby, and youâre not sure how long youâve been looking. the rooms are all full, but no one answers when you knock.Â
- camping is reserved only for the thrill-seekers. no one knows what lurks in the mountains at night, but everyone knows thereâs something out there.

As a former zookeeper we would hear this a lot. âIf you donât study hard youâll end up cleaning poop for a living.â Itâs the one time weâre allowed to go off on the visitors. I once heard my boss rant for five minutes at a lady, in front of her kids, about how he had a Masterâs degree, how people literally worked there for free, and how dare she judge people without bothering to know anything about them. Later that day his boss came by and said, roughly, âShe told us what happened. Thanks for not throwing anything this time.â

Way too many parents need to learn the difference between âa child being disrespectfulâ and âa human person expressing an opinion that differs from theirsâ
my mom had a nice technique for this. when iâd give her sass, sheâd say, âi donât speak rude, whatâs that in polite-person-ese?â
basically, sheâd encourage me to rephrase my opinion without the attitude. so âUGH, you NEVER let me do ANYTHING!â would (often after quite a bit of bitching and grumbling) turn into âit feels like every time i have a fun idea, you say no, and i just end up sitting around the house.â
and at that point we could troubleshoot like civilized people. she could explain that she didnât want me to go to jimmyâs sleepover because jimmyâs dad creeps her out, and i could suggest maybe i could have andy over instead, and she could say sure, why not call peter and stacy and brianna and have your own party, iâll pop some popcorn and rent a movie, and i could add what if we put up tents in the back yard and have a bonfire and roast marshmallows, and she could laugh and say donât push it.
I really like this technique because it addresses the OPs comment but recognizes that the two can coexist. The problem is often the child is expressing their opinion in a rude or disrespectful way. And as humans we automatically become adverse to opinions we feel are aggressive toward us.
My momâs version of this was âOkay, come back when youâre ready to talk about this calmly.â Which, of course, as a teen full of hormones and emotions and feeling put upon by everything never felt great at the time she said it (âi AM CaLm MOM!â she screamed dramatically), but it cut off the conversation when we were both letting emotions get the best of us, and then weâd pick it up later once weâd gotten some time to cool down. I still didnât always agree with her ultimate decision, but she always let me discuss it rationally and openly so that I felt heard, and sometimes what I had to say changed her mind, or at least led to a compromise.
Wow, itâs amazing what treating your kids like future adults with their own ideas/opinions/feelings can do

Gomez gives out better relationship advice than like 90% of dudes.
Gomez Addams is a suave motherfucker who loves his wife more than his own life.
Everyone should want a Gomez. Heâs p cool.
Gomez and Morticia Addams actually have a very loving and extremely healthy relationship, both in the old TV show and in the more recent movies. They were also one of the first television couples to be shown to have an active (albeit offscreen) sex life. Their frank attitude towards sexuality was shocking in itsâ time, but their relationship and their family dynamic is actually more functional and moreâŚdare I say itâŚsane than most families portrayed on TV.
The comedy in the show came from the familyâs âoddâ lifestyle, rather than from infighting and petty bickering, or worse, as was common on other shows of the time, thinly veiled references to spousal abuse. They didnât make fun of each other or act like their children were creatures from another world. Were they strange and outside of social norms? Yes. Were they united in creating a loving home and being good, supportive parents? Absolutely.
These two support and adore their children, care for an aging mother and an estranged brother, put family before everything, and they love each other, wholly, fiercely, without reserve. They are every bit as much in love after at least a decade of marriage as they were the day they met.
Relationship goals. LIFE goals.
Just remembered in the second movie when their third child became ânormalâ for a period and although they were shocked and didnât know how to handle it, they didnât mistreat the child or love it any less. They accepted the difference, even though it was hard for them.Â
Reblogged for truth.

Posts about Gomez and Morticia Addams are almost always uplifting and Iâm happy to have them on my dash, but I think my favorite bit about this conversation is what Gomez is actually saying to Fester.
Itâs nobodyâs surprise that many of the aesthetic and thematic elements of The Addams Family in its various incarnations are influenced by Gothic tradition (not goth, that mostly came later. And not Goth, that was much much much too early), and I think Gomezâs words are a dead bullseye in terms of Gothic mentality.
âMake her feel like sheâs the most sublime creature on earthâ
The sublime is a recurring theme throughout Gothic literature. Although the word (like âawesomeâ) has lost a lot of itâs original luster over the intervening decades, sublime doesnât really mean elevated and lofty (or even heavenly) as itâs often used today, but rather something possessing the power and grandeur to induce awe and veneration in the mind of the beholder. Although less than divine, something sublime possessed a wildness and power that transcended human ability to controlâŚor even to comprehend.
Sublime is standing at the edge of the Grand Canyon leaning as far as you dare over the railing and still not being able to see the canyon floor below. Sublime is warrior-queen Galadriel being tempted by the One Ring. Sublime is waking up in the middle of the night in the heart of a wild thunderstorm.
âMake her feel like sheâs the most sublime creature on earthâ
Gomez isnât advising Fester to treat a woman he fancies like a princess, or even elevate her to pedestal of angelic nature (whoâs idea was it to equate femininity with purity anyway? What a laughable and historically damaging idea. Shame on whatever dead (probably) white dudes promoted that!)
Gomez is advising Fester that if he truly loves a woman he must do everything he can to remind her of how sheâs an untameable force of nature whoâs grandeur brings him to his knees in awe and terror. Just like Morticia, for Gomez.
Iâll sign off with one of my most favorite quotes of all time, because it feels suddenly very relevant:
âWhen I find myself surrounded by so much beauty, I feel as if I am the eye of a hurricane.â
