The attached image is a screenshot of an email with the subject line âLove you!â The names, emails, and signatures are blocked out. It reads:
âHey [name]
Just wanted to say that I didn't mean to laugh at you when you accidentally signed off on our call with a âlove you.â I just found it funny because I've definitely done that before, and I know it happens.
I'm glad you have enough love in your life that that response comes naturally. If anything, you should be proud of that :)
Have a great weekend! We'll follow up about my call with Chris on Wednesday, as discussed.â

"I'm glad you have enough love in your life that that response comes naturally"
I know this is going to make me sound pretensions but I have to get it off my chest. I feel an unimaginable rage when someone posts a photo and is like "this picture looks like a renaissance painting lol" when the photo clearly has the lighting, colors and composition of a baroque or romantic painting. There are differences in these styles and those differences are important and labeling every "classical" looking painting as renaissance is annoying and upsetting to me. And anytime I come across one of those posts I have to put down my phone and go take a walk because they make me so mad
In case you're curious here's what I mean.
Renaissance(distinct lines, stability and the individual man):
Baroque (bold, chaotic, dramatic):
Romantic(romanticize the simple hard working life):
Do you see the difference?
this post has re-wired my brain in the best way

If your fic is 1000 words long, you canât tag it slow burn. Itâs not slow burn. That is a matchstick. And this is my personal bias here but if those motherfuckers youâre writing experience significant forward momentum in their relationship in under 5k words, then that is just a regular old burn. Slow burn should be borderline intolerable and a mistake to start reading at 2 in the morning.
If the fic doesnât have multiple scenes where two people almost kiss but then donât because of a contrived interruption that they are both grateful for and angry about, until the desperate reader is forced every other paragraph to mutter, âthis is fucking ridiculous, this is bullshit, Iâm so fucking mad, please update sooooooooooon,â then it isnât a slow burn. It is a romance and that is a lovely thing but. Slow burns should feel like being set on fire unto your death but the tinder is people not kissing and the spark is people who donât admit they love each other and the whole thing is. You know. Slow.
CORRECT
I once read a slow burn where the main pairing didnât even speak to each other ontil 80k words in
This is the funniest fucking thing Iâve ever read and the only true slow burn fic
@starrla89 you *wish* the slow burn ended in only 80k words đ¤Ł
with my school teachers it was like âomg theyâre so cool i wanna be their friend!â but with university lecturers itâs like âtheyâre endearing and i love them like cats but are they okay because i think they know too much about 18th century german literature to survive in the worldâ
what, you canât know who friedrich schiller is and also change a tire?
literally no
this would have worked better if I personally knew how to change a tire
the tire has to want to change etc

Advice for getting over a writing slump?
My #1 Tip for Getting Over a Writing Slump
So, life is complicated. Writing slumps are complicated. I could probably write an entire book about slumps and blocks. Why they happen, how to get past them. But, for me, a writing slump usually comes down to one thing: Iâm bored.
For whatever reasonâbecause Iâve been following ârulesâ instead of writing in my own way, because Iâve created an uninteresting plot, because I canât relate to my charactersâIâm no longer interested in my WIP, or even in writing in general. So my biggest tip for getting over a slump?
Step 1: Figure out why youâre bored.
This could take time. Over the years, Iâve personally found that if Iâm bored with my writing, I need to ask myself the following questions:
When was the last time you were interested in writing, or in your WIP? What was different then? Retrace your steps and figure out whatâs missing.
Have you been writing as you think you âshould,â rather than as you really want to? If youâre forcing yourself stylistically, plot-wise, or any other way because you think thatâs how youâre âsupposed toâ write, youâre at risk of turning writing into something you dread instead of enjoy.
Do you need a break? Maybe youâre bored because youâre tired, or youâve been working on this WIP too hard or too long. You might just need to go do something else fun and come back to it later.
What made you excited about this project to begin with? Have you gotten too far away from that initial vision?
Hereâs an example: I recently found myself in a slump with my WIP. For a few days, I was really sad that the story seemed to be going south, and that I wasnât as excited about working on it as Iâd been. Then, I remembered my own advice. After pondering the situation, I realized that Iâd gotten bored because I was writing a scene I thought had to be in the story (following ârulesâ). I didnât think the scene was cool or interesting at all. I was just doing it out of some misguided sense of obligation or duty. So I thought back to the last scene that Iâd actually enjoyed writing, figured out why that scene was more engaging, and rewrote the new scene in a way that better captured my attention.
Thereâs a lot of buckle-down, Calvinist writing advice out there that would have you believe that writing is Hard Work. Itâs a fucking Struggle. Youâre Not Always Going to Enjoy It, and if you expect to have fun all the time, youâll never be a Serious/Published/Professional/Paid Writer.
I call bullshit on that. Hereâs why: If youâre bored with your writing, your readers are going to be, too. And even if thatâs not true, even readers end up loving something that bored you to death to write, whatâs the fucking point? Are you really going to be satisfied with yourself or your writing when you have fans who are in love with something that you arenât? Like, is that going to be fulfilling? I donât think so. Which brings me to step two.
Step 2: Take your boredom seriously.
Decide, first and foremost, that you liking and enjoying your writing is a fucking priority. Above and beyond doing it âright.â Above and beyond what other people think. Decide that your relationship with your writing is the most important thing.
I canât guarantee that this strategy will lead to fame, money, publication, or a wide readership. But it will help you get over a slump, and actually enjoy yourself in the process.
Hope this helps!

The fact this isn't a painting is a testament to one of the greatest feats of set design and production I've ever seen.
My god just look at this! The lighting, set design, photography... I've just never seen anything like it.
I think this is the first time I've ever been wowed by "this ISN'T a painting"!
